I like the round woven kind that are like para chord. They last 10 times longer than the flat kind.

My hunting boots are tall, so it was hard to get the lace adjusted at the correct tension. I use 2 sets per boot. The first 4 eyelets are one lace, and the rest going up your leg are another. The lace are the woven, round, and are orange/yellow. This is not a lose weave, very tight. They are a little stiff to bend. I bought them at a true Army Surplus store.

Danner laces are my favorite. I wear duty boots for work and I've found these laces outlast and slide thru loops better than most others.

If the laces go on my boots I replace them with Danner laces. They last. Plus I like a little stretch to prevent them from coming loose during the day.

I had to replace the original laces on my Lowas because they were constantly loosening up. I switched to combat boot laces and the problem was solved for me.

Wax your laces for the last part of them where they go into the hooks at the top of boot to the end of the lace. They wont come loose. Old hockey players trick.

I've actually thought about using paracord too. That stuff is tough enough to keep a bull elk from sliding down a mountain. I'm sure it would work well and last a long time.

Boot Laces :
When I saw this it gave me flash backs of Boot Camp where we had to tie up our laces on all the boots we were not wearing during the day and loose them at night.

I went to Wal-Mart the other day to get me some more laces for my hiking boots... I found some green 60" round laces that I liked and scanned them to check the price... $0.05 !!!! That's right!!! A nickel!
We'll have to see if the old saying is true... "you get what you pay for"...
Oh... I scanned all the others... they were $3 or so.

maybe you could use bowstrings, they are pretty tough.

I used paracord to replace some laces this fall. Hasn't worn a bit.
