I have been trying to sort out the type 6 Cow/Calf tag in Wyoming and was hoping one of you may be able to help.
Hypothetical:
If a guy were to put in for a General Elk Tag (2nd option / special draw) and successfully draw it, could he concurrently apply for a type 6 tag in a special draw unit (38, 41, etc.)? The idea being that you could then cow hunt in a special draw unit and scout for a future bull hunt.
My understanding is that I cannot draw a type 6 tag without also drawing a full priced tag. Correct?
Thanks in advance. This stuff is confusing.
You pick between special and regular for full price tags, and you can also apply for a type 6 as they are separate draws.
(e) For elk, any person may apply for and receive up to one (1) full price elk license (General, Type 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 9) and one (1) limited quota reduced price cow/calf elk license (Type 6, 7 or 8) through the initial drawing. After the initial drawing is completed, any person may purchase up to two (2) limited quota reduced price cow/calf elk licenses valid for any hunt area of the state. Any person may receive a third elk license provided that it is a reduced price cow/calf elk license and is issued for one of the following hunt areas: 3, 6?10, 12, 19, 21, 23, 33?35, 47?49, 61, 63, 64, 66, 69, 92?94, 104, 106, 108, 111, 114, 116, 117, 120, 122, 125 or 129. However, no person shall apply for and receive more than a total of three (3) elk licenses in a single season.
If so, why would anyone pay full price for a type 4 antlerless tag?
Don't look at the "tentative seasons" in the app booklet and assume too much. There could be multiple type 4 or type 6 seasons within one hunt period and they only list one in that publication.
Look to last years regulations for full season disclosure. Some changes but you'll get a better look at stuff.
