Arrow Recommendations
Elk

Looking to purchase arrows for my new setup. I will be hunting elk, deer, and antelope with this same setup and arrows. Thought I would see what you guys would recommend. I have used CX Maxima 350's in the past, so I was leaning towards that. I want a good balance between penetration (elk) and minimizing arrow drop at longer ranges (pronghorn).
Bow setup: Obsession Evolution 2014 28" Draw, pulling about 65lbs. Whisker biscuit 125g Montec G5 broadheads
Your thoughts are appreciated.
how long are your arrows?
Well I haven't had any cut for the new setup, but I think 29" is what I have used in the past.
A arrow combo that puts you around 500grs with as much of that weight up front as you can. I use gold tips and 100gr Brass insert and 125gr broadhead for 517gr arrow. I am not a big fan of the montec broadheads I would use the woodsman Elite's or VPA three blades. Widow
If it was me I would shoot Black Eagles Rampages,
I would use the prem SS half outs, They are 58 grains.
29" at 8.2 GPI grains half outs 58 grains nock and flecthing 25 125 Broad head....
you have a a total weight of about 450 with plenty of FOC
You can all use everything I said above with GT kinetics and you will add about 40 grains in .350 spine.
I use Easton FMJ, 442 gr arrow, Slick Truck Viper Trick and QAD Exodus on my elk set up with complete pass thru's. I shoot Bowtech RPM 360 at 61 lbs, 28" dl. Use the same for antelope.
Shoot what you have been shooting no need to change. I use the Striker Mag 125 gr myself makes a big hole
Give the bloodsport line a look. I shoot the "one" series. Have been very impressed. Killed 2 bulls with them and a pile of other animals. Durable and accurate. Also like the slick trick - viper trick design for elk. Killed my bull in 10 seconds this past year.
BackStraps: Not sure how new to elk hunting you are, but my advice is to listen to what BigDan says. He's one of the top archery elk hunters in the country. FYI, I use FMJ's and any sharp 125 grain broadhead.
Not sure what the Maximas come in at but get the arrow between 400 and 500 grains with your current set up and you will be fine.
Maxima Hunter 450s are good also... a little bit extra weight.I shoot a 29 inch arrow with a 100 grain head had me just over 450 grains total arrow weight.
You are good as is but if you want to try something new check out the CX, PileDriver Pass thru Extremes. They are thin arrows but heavy!
Thanks everyone for the input. I have been on a couple of elk hunts and many, many deer hunts. In the past I have changed arrow/broadhead setups depending on species. Looking forward to getting one universal setup and really fine tuning my accuracy.
Good luck in the draws this spring and your hunts this fall.

Another vote for FMJ's. I shoot them at everything I can get a tag for. Heavy arrow with great penetration.
Easton axis of GT kinetics are good tough arrows
I like easton axis. They have enough weight and smaller diameter. Top that with a 100-125gr BH and you'll be good to go. Thinking off the top of my head you should be coming it at over 400gr with the 400's depending on BH. This should give you the balance you want. Heavy enough for elk and light enough for speed goats.
The thinner diameter will help both trajectory and penetration. Of course use a good coc BH like the strikers or qad.
FMJ's are bad ace, but they will bend. Personally I'd only use them on african game. If you want a slightly heavier shaft get the camo axis.
I've used FMJ's for years. Great shaft!
Bloodsports. Thin, strong, heavy!
