Looking for a guide for Unit 16A NM Second week of September

From: Junior

That's one of the best diy units in the west.

You might want to get the tag first. Chances are slim to none that you will draw that tag. If its a landowner tag your thinking they are over 10gs last time I checked!

How much experience do you have? I have to agree, with some experience, 16A is very doable DIY.

Limestone Outfitters Daryl Welty out of Dusty/Winston area. I used him years ago in another 16 sub zone and had an unbelievable hunt.

Plenty of experience just looking for some help in place to stay and pack out. Will be driving from Florida. Only unit I put in for was 16.

I hope the .002% odds work better for you than they have me. So do you have a tag or are you banking on the draw?

From: arebowhunt

You are probably right Junior. I put in for it last year and did not draw. Fun thinking about it though.

Dreaming about the draw,Link,

I guess .002% is probably 16D, 16A is probably more like .005%. I bet if you contact an outfitter on the hopes of drawing he will laugh. Never hurts to dream though.

I had the tag 2008. Awesome place to be in September!

With draw odds so low, I wouldn't even bother applying there. That goes for everyone.

From: Brotsky

Hey you guys all have the same draw odds I do for 16A. Someone has to draw it! I plan on drawing 55 though so that'll save you guys a tag in 16A. LOL.

I hate the waiting game with the draw although I only applied once . I know it's a lot of money but I'm gonna buy my tag. It's 2600 more but atleast I know I'm going in 2016

what makes some units DIY and others not ?

Accessibility and elk numbers

I bet you'd like that now wouldn't you nowiser!

Got R Done how'd you get a guaranteed tag in 16a for $2600????

19-Feb-15
You wont find 16a tag for $2600. $4500+ at least. Surprisingly enough I drew 16a the first year I ever applied!

Sorry guys not 16a I just ment that I'd rather plan a hunt longer and buy a landowner tag then get my hopes up in the draw . I mean if I want to plan a hunt for this year and need to know I can buy the landowner tag

I hear ya on being able to plan. Right now I'm drawing in NM in outfitters pool but will have enough points for Colorado to for sure draw but can't really afford to do both. Money or time that is...

Limestone outfitters would be who I would go with. Another good one in the Gila is Upfront outfitters. Get the tag first. Very tuff odds.

dont need anybody to pack you in or out, you are probably never more than a mile from some kind of road in most of 16a. 16 b is the wilderness

Being in the Outfitter pool, you already have a guide for a period of time over two days.

Don't even try, No Wiser is going to draw it back to back years!! That dude is an elk tag drawing machine!!

0.005% is one in 20,000! Are you sure about that?

From: NoWiser

My ability to draw tags is only surpassed by my ability to eat those tags. Karma knows that when I'm successful in the draw, another animal lives. I just call myself a conservationist.

As has been stated, it's a tough tag to draw but everyone in each respective draw pool has an equal chance of drawing a tag every year. If you do draw and prefer to utilize the services of an outfitter (or if you need one prior to the draw to help your draw odds in the outfitter pool) I would highly recommend contacting Tom Klumker of San Francisco River Outfittets. He goes by Stoney on this site.

Sorry BTM 0.5 % 1:2000. I think some of the odds for A might actually be around 2-3 percent but my point was don't plan on drawing it.

I drew 16A my very first year applying for elk and I hired an outfitter that my buddy has hunted with on LO tags for a few years.

To be honest, I had a better hunt in ID on a DIY OTC unit Last year... You won't have to worry about me taking your tag in 16A!

So ur saying my chances just went up!!
