Utah's general archery elk season is all OTC. Super tough hunting, but there are elk in them thar woods.

It does include all the limited entry area's as well for spike and cows for the first 3 weeks. The last week you have to go to the Gen area's to keep hunting.

Season dates are for 4 weeks starting from the third Sat. in Aug. This also include the extended area's like the Wasatch Front that goes from Aug 15th this year until Dec 15.

It's the greatest OTC tag in the world, but one of, if not the most difficult hunts in the world.

It's an idea anyway.

Cheers, Pete

Yep, not all states but some. Sometimes OTC tags are better than ones you wait 7 years to draw!

No. Some states are draw only.

There are OTC tags for certain zones in CO, ID, OR, UT, and WA. MT has leftover tags you can buy. NM, AZ (besides a couple tags), WY, NV, and CA you have to draw.

+ Colorado. More than half the units are OTC, and you can buy a reduced price NR antlerless tag if you're on a budget. Many units offer two tags, either sex plus antlerless. Tons of public land where you can just pull off the road, camp and hunt. With an OTC license you can hunt any OTC unit.

It isn't easy hunting anywhere, but a great learning opportunity and a great western hunting experience. Get in shape, do some homework, and go do it. You're not getting any younger and after you don't do it once you'll get hooked.

Jaquomo's comment is spot on!! Except he forgot to tell you he and others on this site are the best resource of Elk knowledge on the planet in my opinion. Many on here share great amounts of information read the threads and ask questions!

Good luck!!!

Colorado, Montana and Idaho. Montana's technically a draw but they don't sell out so you can always go OTC.

Keep in mind that in Montana some units require a permit in addition to the general license. Some of those permits are guaranteed or unlimited. But even though you can buy licenses for months after the draw you cannot get the permits after March 15th.

Yep, Colorado and Utah have great OTC opportunities. Utah has an OTC deal on a Spike Bull/Cow tag and Colorado has many OTC GMU's. Good Luck. C

In New Mexico you can purchase a land owner voucher that allows you to purchase an Elk tag. There is a link on the New Mexico Fish & Game web site that lists all the land owners and the tag allocations that they have received. They are categorized by unit. It also has their contact information. Make sure you pay attention to the authorization concerning if it is "unit wide, UW" or "ranch only, RO". Also keep in mind that most of these authorizations are already purchased by outfitters and voucher resellers. However you can and I have found some great deals on vouchers. Once you have a voucher you can purchase the elk license and a hunting you can go.
