Just got back from the AZ Elk Society banquet. Commissioners tag went for $230.000 this year. A Hualapai Reservation tag went for $60,000. Think I am going to have to depend on the draw.

Wow! Wonder how much he'd pay me to pack his elk out?
PA'S version of this went for 52,500.
I'll have to go to the auction next year, I'm thinking I'll fit right in with these guys:)

The guy that paid 230K was sitting at my table. He came by himself and was on the phone a lot just before the auction. The bidding started at 50K and was jumping 10K per bid when there was a pause at the 90K mark, then the auctioneer announced a 225K phone bid. The guy at my table bid 230K and it was over. This auction alone usually takes about 10-15 minutes however this time it was over in less than 5 minutes.

Chuckster, my wife had never been to a RMEF or AES banquet before. When the bison tag went for a not astronomical amount, my wife stated that the elk tag was going to be reasonable as an elk had nowhere as much meat as a Bison.
Rather than try to argue with her I said, Ok, if you want to bid, go ahead and jump in when you feel comfortable with the amount. Needless to say, the opening bid blew her away, and then when the phone bid came in she was, How much did he say, that can't be right.
Needless to say she did not jump in and bid, however she did buy me a bear hunt in Idaho, and she got some turkey taxidermy for herself.
