Looking to book a hunt in New Mexico if tags are drawn. Has anyone been there, what unit and recommendations on an outfitter?

If you were wanting to go with an outfitter, you should have put in with them in the draw, 10% of tags goes into the outfitter pool.
Guess it would also depend on what units you put in for in the draw.

What unit did you out in for? Many outfitters cover multiple units.

BRIJAKE is correct. you should have put in with the outfitter already and you would have had a better chance at a tag

In your post, you indicate that you are hoping to draw a tag, inferring that you've applied in this years draw. You also ask about units.....very vague post. I would suggest you add a few details for better clarity of response.

The best units are the ones you applied for unless you have the 10+ grand for a tag in the 16 units. I guess that's a rifle tag though an archery might be cheaper.

Like everyone, I'm confused. If you're hoping to draw tags then you've already selected your units as the application deadline was March 18. You'll be limited to drawing the unit you applied for. You can still go with an outfitter but like others said you would have been better putting in for the outfitter draw, if you didn't apply and are talking about buying tags as opposed to drawing tags, you can find landowner tags a number of places. Depending on what unit you want to hunt you'll pay between $1,500 to upwards of $5,000 and more for the right to buy an elk license.

I would look in the 16 units (16A, 16B, 16C, 16D, 16E). I have used Beaverhead Outfitters and highly recommend them. Nice people, they really know the country and where the elk are-you won't be disappointed. Look up: Jack or John Diamond, Beaverhead.

I have hunted two times with Ute Creek Outfitters- Northern NM on private land-land vouchers-full service hunts-downside is the 5 day hunt is 6500.00 that includes the tag, guide and accommodations at the Ranch house- lots of 300 plus bulls to chase on 200K acres. I would go back in a flash if I could afford it again. Elevation was 7000-12100 and everything in between- Elk population is great-we saw and heard bulls everyday-shot a good 5-5- a guy in camp killed a 340 6-7. The camp I was in went 4/5 and 5/5 the next year with ML-archery hunts are even better! Lee Vigal is the manager of the Rio Costeli property.
