So after investing a ton of money in Maptech terrain navigator topo programs for many states maptech no longer supports its older version for windows 7 (please let me know if this is not correct). I am NOT going to fall for that again and pay for pro version, use it once a year, and in 5 years have to buy all states again when they make a new version.
ideas? I want something I can use on my computer - and create points. I buy chips for my gps so I am covered there.
download google earth PRO, sign in with your email and use GEPFREE as the password.
I posted links to data set info here: http://forums.bowsite.com/tf/bgforums/thread.cfm?forum=5&threadid=442118&MESSAGES=15&FF=5
You want Lincoln nat forest fire history data set and if you want the water points I can email them to you. The forest requires a public info request.
All my stuff works just fine on Windows 10 so there is no problem using on Win 7.

Don,
I agree that Google earth pro is an easy way to do what you have in mind. I happen to have a product that will give you the hot spots per GMU that you can import into GE pro. From there you can add your own points if you like and then export my points and yours to a KMZ file which can then be converted using freeware into data you can upload to a GPS. Look for the digital hot spots tab under hunting maps.
Don, had the same problem, and the way I solved it was to purchase an old Panasonic Toughbook laptop. Hook it up to an old gps and have a moving map display that I can see (daylight readable screen). Had to keep an old printer that has a parallel port on it to print maps. Keep it in the shop.
