Elk

I've been using Rage Two Blade Hypodermics and had decent results. I would like everyone else's opinion on the subject. I shoot a Mathews Helium 70 pound draw. I think my arrows are 400 grain but I could be mistaken.
I'm going to shoot slick trick magnum 100's. my arrows came in at 403 grains.
Most on here will tell you anything other than a Rage. Personally I will be shooting a Slick 125 Magnum. I do shoot Rages during deer season but no way I'd risk it on an elk!
This year I will be using a Ram Cat 125 grain
I use to shoot ST, but like this head too much and shoots so very very well
My last two elk were killed with a 125 Muzzy and a 140 grain Razor Cap.......
Although I do not shoot a Rage or expandables, for those that knock them, well do not tell that to Tom Miranda,,,,,, that guy has killed everything with them
IUseMuzzy3Blade125GrainBroadheadsForEverything :)
I started using ramcat 125 towards the end of last season--connected on a Nilgai bull at 65 yds quartering away--- he might have gone 50 yds-- last year I used VPA 125 on a elk bull at 20 yds head on-- he went 70 yds-- VPA will probably last almost a life time by sharpening as needed--ramcat blades are pretty much a one time shot head but can replace blades as needed--lots of good heads out there
Helix two blade 125 grain
Slick Trick Magnums, but I am going to try Muzzy Trocars and shoot which ever flies best in my set up
SHARP fixed blade. Beyond that, Ive used several different brands through the years and they all performed just fine.
rage all the way. never fails and flies like a dart.
Muzzys or VPA 3 blade 125
Killed all, but one with rocket steelheads 100
200gr single bevel Cutthroat
Majority of hardcore elk hunters will say strong fixed blade. A lot will only consider COC. Mechanicals are usually the minority or lack experience.
Zwickey's in any flavor, deadly out of any bow built including 300fps compounds. I even used them with an overdraw on a 94# PSE Mach six, lengthways through a five point bull.
Ramcat 125's, very accurate, no planing, great penetration and bloodtrails, every thing I look for in a broadhead.

Used ST Viper Trick last year. Thinking about going with the Mag this year for the slightly larger cutting surface. I like the mags for deer, and want to consolidate to 1 head. The Viper Trick is an excellent head though, killed a few for me last year, but wasn't over impressed with the blood trails. My arrow is 545 grns, and I think my setup is more than adequate to handle the steeper blade angle on the mags.
I'm using the Helix 125s also.
Lots of great BH's, exodus are the best though, for compound shooters
The last three years my broadhead of choice for everything is a is the Slick Trick standard 100 gr. The four blades cause alot of bleeding.
Last year I used a Wasp 1 3/4" cut Jak Hammer. 100gr. As usual, big hole, lots of blood, short trail.
I'll be using Slick Trick Magnum 100's again this year. I've killed most of my elk with Wasp Boss SST 100's.
I killed a couple deer with Wasp Jak Hammer 1 3/4" mechanicals but I had one deflect off of the ribcage of a little buck one time on a (perfect) slight quartering away angle and after that I quit using mechanicals.
I think this is a topic that gets beat to death...what BH are you dialed in with?? ,,,thats your answer,be consistent
MikeC......Im and excellent archer on Tuesdays
VPA 100 Gr. 3 blade. Solid Steel lung busters! Same head has taken 2 elk and 2 bears and is touched up and waiting this fall in my quiver!
Wac ems. Fly amazing and are very sharp
Its a matter of what you have confidence in and what flies best out of your bow. As long as they fly true and are sharp and you can hit your target area it will kill.
Any VPA head. I have not shot an elk with them but killed 9 deer with the same head in 2 years. Tough and very easy to sharpen. Shawn
Muzzy 3 grain 125s. Year in and year out. If you bow is tuned they fly great and it is cheap to replace dull blades.
Striker, montec, vpa, slick trick mag have all done well for me in the past. Usually use 100gr
+3 for Zwickeys...specifically Eskimo variety.
this topic is like asking what beer a guy likes
A Left Handed Nitro Milk Stout sounds really good about now!
I like free beer, except for light beer. And since I have a lifetime supply of free Muzzy 125s, I like them too.
I have some free Thunderhead and VPA 125s, and may use the VPAs for elk this year.
The beer and the broadheads all work as intended.
That's funny Louis, because both have their own way of reducing debate to fisticuffs.
Sharp ones.
Politics, Religion, and Broadheads!
Woodsman Elite 125gr. Widow
Hit em where Mt Man did and they will all work fine.
ILikeThe125GrainSlickTrick
Rage 2 blade chisel tip with the ST blades.
Got on this thread a little late but in direct answer to the thread question there is no single broad head that EVERYONE likes for elk lol. On that I can pretty much guarantee you
If I'm ready with the recurve this year I'll be shooting 125 grain VPAs. If I'm shooting my compound, I'll be shooting 100 grain VPAs
I've shot elk with Montecs, Snuffer SS, and a Steelhead XL mechanical. All performed flawlessly, although I'm not real sure I'd want to shoot another with a mechanical
I've been involved with other dead elk killed with Muzzy's, and they too performed very well.
I'm sure there's a lot of other good heads on the market, but I haven't tried all of them
Treeline says, "Politics, Religion, and Broadheads!"
... that's a good one!
There is no Brodhead that everyone likes for elk or for any other animal for that matter
Ulmer edge 125's. 450g total arrow weight. Pass thru's on all elk.
I do want to mention that myself and my partner had Rage Hypodermic blades break on elk. Please don't use this head. Normal rage or rage ke seem to be good elk medicine with the right setup.
Magnus Stinger, on the last six. They work well.
Yet to get it done (no shot as yet) with my recurve. But my choice is the Simmons Tigershark 135 glue on a Douglas Fir shaft aprox 580 grains total weight.

I am shooting the Rampage 2inch two blade.I harvested an elk three years ago (last time I was drawn)The elk traveled 4 feet straight down It was a spine shot. I then finished it off with a Trauma set at 2-1/2" Thru the chest.
