Colorado preference point B--- S--- !
Elk

Just got letter from Colorado fish & game stating there not giving me a elk preference point because i only sent $464 , didn't give them another $10 for their stupid habitat stamp. Unbelievable , but they didn't mind keeping my money for 2 months. Don't understand why they can't just deduct the $10 along with the other $43 they charge you from the $464 , it's like they try to make it easy to screw it up. Last money they see from me , like it really matters, Colorado needs to get their shit together, there system sucks ! IMO.
They have a system and they don't have time to cater to all the people who cannot follow the system. Doesn't it even tell you you need a stamp as you go through the steps? I thought it did.
I thought when you applied on line they automatically added the Habitat Stamp?
Feel the pain, but understand when WE make the mistake it is ours. I said we as I have been there. 3 cents not enough on an az app cost me that years point and my loyalty point. Just one example by me!
You must have done paper application??? It's pretty much automatic if you do it online!
On page 11 it says in big red letters, "Applicants will be disqualified from the draw If the hunter has not yet purchased a 2015 habitat stamp"
Yet another reason to apply online, as it will flag mistakes like this.
why I bought the lifetime habitat stamp,,,,cause I would shore enough forget,,,,,,

#3. Hunters age 18-64 applying for a limited license must purchase a 2015 HS to apply in the drawing process.
To purchase a stamp with your draw application,INCLUDE $10 IN ADDITION TO YOUR LICENSE FEE WHEN SENDING IN YOUR (PAPER) APPLICATION.
( seems like you applied for an elk Preference Point and to do that, you sent in $464, the cost of a non resident cow elk license, and only sent them the $464.) AN ADDITIONAL $10 WAS NEEDED FOR THE HS. If you had not purchased a Colorado license in the past, there is also a $40 charge for a PP). So a charge of $464 for the tag, a $10 charge for the HS and a $40 charge for a PP equals, $669. OR if you had purchased a Colorado license in 2014 or applied for a PP, the total would be $474. (***** you must have sent in a paper application) BECAUSE-----
If applying on line,(with credit card) it (the $10) will be added automatically, if needed).
Regs continued: Paper applications submitted for hunters who do not have a HS will be DISQUALIFIED from the draw.
My best, Paul
Sorry about that bad luck but on the positive side your helping point creep;-)
Don't be mad at Colorado, be mad at yourself.
It's well known that you have to buy the stamp every time you apply or buy a point. If it's your first time applying, then we'd cut you some slack. But if not............
No more paper apps for me , sorry but it just pisses me off , asked service agent why they can't notify applicants when they screw up, seems like Colorado would like to get the extra $53 , she said it's to time consuming . Well they sent me a application to fill out to let me know i screwed up. And what to do with my $464. why not notify applicants earlier than later? Pretty sure there was plenty of applicants that made the same mistake, don't understand why i can't just buy the habitat stamp , not like i'am applying for a limited tag , it's just preference point , for the rice lake.
They just cut 10 million from the budget and that would include any staff to perform error checking and follow up. That was just one cut. The budget cuts were 5 years in duration, due to a major accounting error a few years back.
If your using paper apps, your as antiquated as their computer systems. Better luck next year. If it makes you feel any better, I missed the deadline for my deer application. With can both cry in our beer come Nov.
Sorry about your demise. I try and do my apps on-line in each state so I too get corrected. I waited too long for Nevada to get proof of hunter education and ended up talking with some phone rep that was no help on the weekend. Gonna get that done before next year.
When there is only the occasional screw up.... when you call someone you have a shot at some sympathy....
When screw ups are epidemic and you call someone you will likely get a pro.....
Online this the only way to go.
You go to an online forum to complain, but still mail in paper tag applications instead of applying online?
That's one of those things you hear and go Huh?
Don't the regs actually state that they won't notify you if you make a mistake on your application?
If you do it online it will not process your application until it is right so next time do it online. It's idiot proof.
No sympathy here. The instructions are clear, and there's a method to use that's foolproof. Man up and accept the blame. It was YOUR mistake.
That's a bummer. Beats me out though, right now I have 0 Points for everything in Colorado except 1 turkey point.
Could have been worse, could have mistakenly enter a cow code and burns points, checking the draw stats Wyoming couple guys used 7 and 5 points for cow tag that takes zero. One guy did nine pts for a general tag wow
the state coffers will miss your money. that will show the bassterds. they picked on the wrong dude this time.
Count yourself lucky. What is you had enough points to draw a tag and were already making huntingplans, but you made the same mistake. And of course, no tag. Would have really been pissed then!
There is another silver lining. Was helping a guy apply this year online and it DIDN'T make me buy a habitat stamp. I even called to find out why: because he is over 65 and is exempt!
I think there should be another NR boycott, the last one over the gun laws really had an impact.
TX, free HS for seniors! That is going to change in the very near future (maybe next year) along with a free fish license. Paul
Yea what Bou said. Too funny my friend.
Yeah there are way too many seniors not paying their fair share. BS
No big trips this year, Colorado Unit 2 Elk and Bear about 70 miles from home, November Deer tag here at home.
Weird, posted this on another thread.
Next year I am free of chasing one of the high point tags, may be able to hunt out my back door in a 0-1 pp unit.
"No more paper apps for me , "
Why on earth would you have done a paper app anyway. You seem to realize pref points are precious but were more than 10 years behind the times by persisting with paper instead of the fool proof, error-checking online process.. That was begging for trouble and it caught up with you.
Just because he didn't follow directions, doesn't mean they don't still suck.
Cashing in my last CO points was the best feeling ever - like breaking up with a bad girlfriend!
That stinks, I am always worried about that little error - but since I never made it I can get ahead a little faster because of those who forget:)
I used to worry about the mistakes a lot before the internet. I have never missed a point or a tag yet. If you think Colorado is bad....all the other states are just as bad and convoluted.
Well it doesn't hurt that bad, I cash in my 12 points three years ago on unit 76 archery with two buddies, we all got nice bulls. So this would of been my third. Only want to get enough to hunt unit 66.
WOW! You are something else...Colorado is Great when you get what you want but when YOU screw up then its "F" them!! Really? Please don't send anymore $, Stay home and think about elk hunting OK?
It won't break my heart if a couple of thousand people think Colorado sucks and they all stop trying to draw tags.
Colorado doesn't suck, but their DOW and drawing system sure do. I'm glad I bailed out of it, but I still wish all those who apply nothing but the best of luck. If you are happy, then by all means continue. I've just moved on to greener fields for my hunting.
I remember the days before online application. We would all meet at my house and fill out the applications together with everyone checking the rules as we went. Had to be done in black/blue ball point pen and if you missed one box that needed checked your app was disqualified...The good old days...8^)
Colorado treats NR's better than any other state in the west when it comes to big game hunting, by a WIDE margin. We as NR can hunt a variety of big game species each and every year, along with small game, predators, birds, fantastic fishing, and more. And of course there are millions of acres of free public land to do it on. Their application rules are extremely clear, easy to understand, and unbelievably generous to NR's. They offer an on-line system that's user-friendly and virtually guarantees a mistake-free process. Sorry but anyone bi-otching about Colorado NR hunting opportunity and/or draw systems, really needs to get a clue.
LOL! I knew this would be an entertaining thread! ;-)
Colorado treats NRs best? Not if you go all the way west.
"WOW! You are something else...Colorado is Great when you get what you want but when YOU screw up then its "F" them!! Really? Please don't send anymore $, Stay home and think about elk hunting OK?"
Whoa, take a breather man, the things that can make people crap themselves??
Yeah , that was a little harsh , wasn't it !
Well, what does one expect when there are no hunting seasons to let off some steam/energy/frustration.
Other that kicking the dog, Bowsite, is then the logical place and this thread proves that point.
Kicking someone ass through electronics surely has saved a lot of dog's butts.
My best, Paul
Very well put Paul, your a wise man. Thanks, Best of luck this year.
I see no reason to bitch about the system when you make a mistake. I feel sorry for Birdman, but many of us have done something similar. When I was just starting to collect points, when we all did it on paper, I missed the deadline one year. I got really busy with work, buried the brochure under some paperwork and forgot the date. I woke up in the middle of the night and screamed, but it was all my fault. I now have 18 points, but with 19 I'd probably be hunting unit 2 next year or 201 in a couple, now I'm at least a year away from 2, and 3 or 4 from 201. It sucks, but it's my own doing so I'll just keep plugging away
I find this a little funny that I merely support the notion that Birdman started this thread with and I'm harsh? Huh, accountability people....
