I enjoyed the thread on shot distance.

An additional question, what draw weight and what draw length do you use?

im a runt. I draw right at 26 inches. and my hunting bows are mostly mid to high 50s in draw weight. works great

70 and 30

60-70lbs and 30 yards. If you are asking on elk as the last thread was I don't have experience. Only whitetail

58# @28, I have had pass through on some and others about half the arrow. bow before that was 64#@28.

56# at 28" using VAPs or Impacts from Bloodsport.

I shoot several different longbows that are between 57 and 65 pounds at 28" (my draw length).

I also shoot a recurve that is 55# at 28" - just haven't killed an elk with it, yet.

Arrows and broadheads that I shoot vary quite a bit - just make sure they are perfectly tuned to the bow for perfect flight, cut on impact head (2, 3 or 4 blade), and as sharp as I can get them. Have had a number of complete pass-thru's with 3-blade Snuffers and 425-450 grain carbon arrow set ups.

54# @ 30", Only one Trad Bull, 550 grains with a Zwickey, penetrated to offside ribs

53-57# @28". My 53# recurve was custom built to be a "speed bow". Othewise everything else is 57#

And when Lou retires, I get his recurve!!

Impressive, some of you guys pull a lot of weight.

53-58# @28". Plenty for elk if you have a heavy, well-penetrating arrow that is tuned for the bow.

53#@28" with ~500gr arrow.

I need to go lay down and take some advil. Just reading about a 70# stickbow makes my shoulder ache..

I used to shoot heavy recurves like that (68-69# @ 28", which would be close to 80# @ 31) until I figured out it wasn't necessary, and that my accuracy improved significantly by going down a bit and tuning a 450 grain arrow. Didn't want to have shoulder problems with age, either.

I think it's great for those who like that much poundage and arrow weight and are honestly accurate with it at unknown distances.

Yes, I agree. I could shoot a bit more than 71#s. Probably 80+ but just wouldn't be comfortable or confident with it. So not interested.

I've gone the higher efficiency lower draw weight route myself! The only thing I haven't put a hole in the far side of is a turkey that I shot long ways but that was with a low efficiency low draw weight bow and it still did the trick!
