Will you tag out this sept ?
Elk

For all those hitting the elk mountains will u punch your tag ?
Sure hope so, 21 years to get this elk tag. Will be looking to put it on something special though.
Yes, not passing up bulls this year since I want to help a great older couple who both drew moose tags.
This is the year that it all comes together.
I feel confident with at least one of our group will tag out.
That is the plan.
Last year was my first time out to CO for elk.
Missed a couple of times due to elk fever and hit a giant directly on the shoulder and only got a couple inches of penetration.
This 50+ year old easterner wants revenge in the worst way.
Killed around 20+ WT's but never had a screaming elk in my face.
That is the goal! And I have spent 11.5 months thinking about it, planning and training to make it happen.
Absolutely. I keep wondering what my bull is doing right now....
No question...I'll fight off the satellites until I get a biggin.
Going to shoot the first 400 net bull I see.
Yup, any legal elk to cross my path will bite the dust. 7 mouths to feed so not picky.
Expecting a punched tag is a bow hunter requirement! Good luck all! C
I'd say the odds are ok. Not great, not poor. I'm gonna be a little picky, so that notches the odds down some.
We'll see.
I don't know. I've never even seen an elk before...
But I'll work hard and will take the first legal elk I see.
So, yes. I will fill my tag this year (I don't think it will be a monster but I will be VERY happy with any elk.)
God willing and the creek don't rise!
I'm running low on summer sausage meat, so like Jaq, I'm not going to be real picky this year. I'd say there's an elk out there that doesn't know it yet, but he's in trouble!
1 or 2. Zero is not an option.
Best of luck to all with a tag !
That's the plan!
I was a little more selective last year after killing a big one in 2013 and I didn't punch a tag. The freezer is getting pretty bare and I won't be as selective this year...
Paul nice pic it shows the age diff on them 3 bulls the left one would be my choice big mature body and good mass wide curved rack ,center bull is nice but younger and lacking compared to other bull , right bull needs a few more yrs !
Cheesehead Mike thats what I'm worried about, I'm trying for the guy above or this one. He's the last one in the back.
Either would be difficult and I'm scared I will not tag out.
When I kill an elk I will punch my tag!!! Hunting Wyoming on general tag, Got high expectations but also understand reality. I'm not to picky so I sure hope to cut that notch!
It would be a bonus. Going to enjoy my time with awesome companions
My time has come!! One will die this year!
You bet! 2 in Colorado and 1 New Mexico and 24 days to get it done. Wife says freezer is empty and don't come home empty handed :)
No doubt about it, Oregon for the season.
Heck ya, Killing a stud in AZ!!
The success stats don't support the confidence you all have, but go getem boys.
Sounds like " first one in ...loses" for a lot of us.
So average success rates are 10-20% for archery, yet 100% of Bowsiters say they'll tag out.
We're either the elite of all bowhunters or delusional...
I'd like to think "the elite" ;)
the power of positive thinking !!!!!
In the past 15 years of archery elk hunting, only 3 times I haven't punched my tag.
I'm sticking with my odds
Confidence kills.
Yes...If a 350 + bull give me a shot. I have waited a long time and want a great hunt. Filling the tag will simply be icing on the top IMO
I don't care if I do or not. I will be happy just to chase elk BUT if its brown its down. :)
Yep...if it's brown...it's down!
And who knows...it might finally be my Year to kill a decent public land bull...
Either way...I'm eating elk!
I'm loving the optimism guys ! Hope you all score !
Nope. No chance...no tag. Drew a limited entry rifle tag for Oct 1 in the area I always bow hunt. Will scout all of September and it will feel very weird packing a spotting scope instead of a bow. I just couldn't afford a 2nd $430 tag to archery hunt otherwise my answer to the question would be "absolutly"!!!!
Yep. Freezer full of cow meat come September.
Going by stats.. 11 bulls in 13 years and one of those no kill years was because I was holding out! So yes I will tag something.
With my wife hunting for her first kill it might be her, but we will get at least 1.
I am more interested in the fellow's coming out to share my Wyo & Utah bow elk camp to harvest an elk more than me---
Good luck, Robb
Absolutely!!,AND ATTACH IT BEFORE I TAKE PICTURES. So no one is offended
Some of us will eat our woeds !!!
some of us will eat our words!!!!!
"Absolutely!!,AND ATTACH IT BEFORE I TAKE PICTURES. So no one is offended "
Of course that depends on which state you are in. In Colorado, you must attach the tag to meat. Especially for those that quarter and pack out. :)
As far as the question at hand. I will absolutely guarantee that some of us here will tag out! Hopefully I am in that group! Trying New Mexico for the first time ever this year.
I highly doubt it! Hopefully i will at least put more pieces of the puzzle together though. I know i will enjoy thr mountains and have fun either way. If i actually see an elk while hunting i will be pumped. Last year, my first elk season, i never saw an elk while hunting. Saw one while driving. ....
If I fill my tag I vow to manscape for the next year.
No Doubt that well take 1 out of 2. If we catch them talking consistently its over as the 2 man talk & stalk will get the job done. BTW those that have not taken one yet don't get greedy, take that first one that's legal and like my late father Stash used to say to me "You Can't eat the horns" as there is not much out there better than Elk Meat.
Ok, 50% odds based on my past success. Will be solo hunting 30 days in a new area with good concentrations of elk and the archery success is 23%. Fingers crossed for sure and I will give it 100% as usual.
My best, Paul
Cow for sure. Nice bull, with any luck. It would be nice to have to buy a big chest cooler to store two elk and maybe a muley.
Mike
There's an elk out there with my name it! Hopefully I do my part correctly.
