When are you going? Do you prefer the rut or early season? Planning on being on the mountain the day before the season opens.
Will be a smoke pole hunt for me this year will be up the whole season, or until the freezer is full
Will arrive in my unit three days prior and then hunt 30 days if needed. Fun seeing what happens from early on to late in the season.
9/3 - 9/13 first time elk hunt for me
I will get to elk camp 2 days before the archery season begins and stay for the entire season. If I tag out early I will help out others in camp. It is nice to go out and not have to carry a bow.
9/13 to 9/28
Got there same dates last Year and killed my bull on the 20th.
Best of Luck Jeff
Every week except for muzzleloader.
This year will be the latest we've gone, hope there's no snow. Hate to tell the car rental we abandoned the car on the mountain. September 17-27.
elkmtngear, if you tag out early how do you hold the meat over? A few years ago I was in camp for 2 weeks before my friend from Denver came up. He asked if I was going to stay even if I tagged out the first week.
8/29 thru 9/27 staying entire season! Elk deer and bear tag to fill
I'm envious of you guys that get to stay the entire season!

I cut and wrap the meat while in camp and put it in a small chest freezer. My Honda 1000 will run the freezer. It takes about 3 days to freeze hard.
tcosmic, I was hunting solo, so I came out early. Took me two days to pack him out, I was 2 miles in and 2000 feet down.
Just hung up the quarters in the shade for two days, and they skinned over, and were fine. Transported them for two days in a Sleeping bag with dry ice on top of them.
It was all excellent. If I had to stay because of others, I would probably just drop it off at a processor in the nearest town.
Best of Luck, Jeff
Sept 5 to 18. My 1st trip with a bow. I am ready!

Leaving on the 3rd and will be home on the 15th.
I plan to have one dead by the 3rd day but will hang around camp to see if one of the other guys get one so I can help pack it out :)
Start Labor Day weekend. End?
I always take the first week and the last two. Unless I have a tag out of state.
Oct. 10th thru 14th......first time without bow in 5 years. Hope its cooler.
Just think that if all of the Colorado archery elk hunters, resident and non resident were Bowsite members and answered this question,----
THERE WOULD BE OVER 43,000 REPLIES TO WHICH DATES THEY WOULD BE HUNTING.

First week alone close to home. Gonna skip hunting to work 5 days then I will be there till season ends. Last 9 will be a backpack in trip with a guy from work and I am looking forward to it! Bonus is I bought an OTC Bear tag that I can use the first two weeks I will be hunting. Seems I only see Bears when I do not have a tag.
Will hunt the entire season if needed. Been doing solo for 12 years. My 9th year of being able to hunt the entire season since I retired. Can't wait. Been doing pack in to wilderness until last year. Need to start acting my age. Good bulls last two years.
first 4 days of season and if I don't score then the 19th through last day of archery season. cant wait.
9/9 to 9/16 Then I will play catch up on the weekends if necessary.
September 3rd to the 14th, including drive time from the East coast. That leaves 7 or 8 days to hunt, depending on the drive out. One truck, two buddies and me. Prep time is growing short. I can't wait !
I had my backpack loaded already. But today I pulled everything out to be sure I had everything I needed. I re packed everything and put it on the scale. 40#'s of gear for 5 days in spike camp. Much better than the 70lbs I packed last year! Shooting my longbow every evening, getting pumped up I tell ya!

I still have our cabin in Colroado GMU 12 (just 2 miles from Over the counter either sex elk GMU 231) available if anyone wants a great base camp cabin instead of camping. The two weeks I have left are Sept 20-27 and Sept 4-11. Call me at 970.926.0216 if you are interested. More details about our cabin and hunting from there can be found at: www.flattopshunting.com.

Love you guys hunting nat'l forest for the entire 30 day season. All of you should petition to change the regulations on camping on nat'l forest from 14 day limit to at least 35 days to allow for setup and take down of your 30 day camps.
I find it so contradictory that you are allowed to hunt for 30 days but then the government finds it convenient to restrict you to camping no longer than 14 consecutive days on "their" land.
The government has too many laws that restrict freedoms and regulate the heck out of the little guy trying to make a living.
I get a kick out of elected officials who say they support small business but then put in place rules, regs, laws and bureaucrats that thrive on nothing else but to make it as difficult as they can on each of those small business owners to do business.
Where are the politicians who read the laws and have half a brain to understand the implications of that law and the foresight to say to hell with that law lets get it off the books and simplify doing business and pursuing happiness in the good old USA.
