My hunting partner put one into a good 5 point last year at 25 yards. He put it right where it needed to go and the bull ran up the ridge about 35 yards and tipped over. Are a really nice compact broadhead. Tough, spin true, and accurate. I like them a lot

Im shooting them this year. They are flying excellent ! A local guy did testing with this broadhead on a dead beef cow shooting it thru the front shoulder bone. It had better penetration than any of the other broadheads and was one of only two broadheads that held together intact during this testing.

I killed a bull with one last year, went in as a 3 blade came out the other side as a 1 blade. Sheared off 2 blades hitting only rib bones !!
Killed the bull, but sure broke apart !!!

I have played with the Trocars and killed a couple deer with them. Only reason being is they reminded of an old Rocky Mountain broad head design from back in the day. Some good and bad points on them. The good...they seem to group excellent, maybe because of the offset blades that create a helical I don't know...but the shoot very well. They are also quite in flight. Both deer I killed were pass throughout, one died in sight and the other had typical blood trail for about 125 yards. Both double lung shots from tree stands. The bad on the Trocars. They are a one a done head for two reasons. First reason being that the tiny set screw gets gummed up and it's almost impossible to change the blades. One out of three willstrip right out and the time it take for a blade replacement with that in mind....forget it. This isn't insurmountable because honest you can replace the whole head for almost the cost the blades..... However the second reason they one and done is even though the ferrule is steel really isn't that strong, and solid hit and they don't spin true. They blade retention has weak points as well as I have seen a few sheared blades in solid impact tests. Lastly the blade offset really tears the hell out of your broad head targets and makes some removals a pain in the ***....
So in short I wouldn't be afraid to use Trocars but I would limit it to smallish thin skinned game like deer and lopes.... My first choice in heads...no but serviceable.

Red River Broadheads's Link
Take a look at our new products.
We have some very good broadheads that have out preformed several other broadheads on the market.
We have completed three evaluations on actual animal carcass and our two broadheads out preformed the other brands in all three evaluations.

I have seen many dead elk with a hole from the trocar tip. I don't use them but I have a bunch of them for some reason. I been setting up my son's arrows with them.

I used the Trocar on my moose hunt last fall. Clean pass through at 34 yards with a 60# bow and a 400 grain arrow. Should be not an issue with elk if put in the right spot. Good luck!

I shot a shiras moose with one last fall, and the blades were beyond dull upon recovery of the arrow. I was not terribly impressed with how the blades responded to hair and bone.

I used them last year on my elk hunt. This bulls body was huge and the Trocar penetrated very well and my bull went down in about 50 yards.

2012 Wyoming bull. Complete pass-through. Dead elk 75 yards away. 2013 Colorado Muley buck, complete pass through, dead deer 20 yards away. I have used 100 grain 4 blade Muzzys for years. Mainly a whitetail hunter. Last year was a great example. I got this great idea that I would use a mechanical (grim reaper) for the "huge entrance wound". 5 yard shot from a tree stand. The arrow did not exit and it took me 5 hours to find the buck. Back to Muzzys after that. Shot two does with complete pass throughs. One went 20 yards. The other went 10. Of course, making good shots is a requirement, regardless of the broadhead you shoot!
Good luck to all and pick a spot!

It could happen w/ any broadhead. I've heard stories of disembowelment with several different bhs. I personally am not a muzzy fan.

I was talking to the OP. There are few broadheads that have been around as long as the Muzzy trocar has been gettin' it done. Just surprised me that he asked the question. God Bless
