I was doing some scouting on GE and I spied an elk. I have looked at this area many many times but for what ever reason I happened to hold my mouth just right and viola. I then started doing a micro search and ended up finding 13 so far. The sun is low in the east and cast shadows that seemed to help. The shadows reveal more than the actual animal. I know showing would reveal the area or I would show it.. I know the area is a rutting area because that is how I found it. One morning I was hunting another area and kept hearing bugles coming from this area from around 3 am till right before daylight. Went over and happen to glass a few cows heading to bed. Difficult area to hunt because of how it lays. This snapshot seems to be early spring. Love scouting maps. Anybody else?

If I knew how to post a pic and keep it incognito I would. Then you could tell me what you think. And yes the shadows actually help by showing a side profile.

Yep, you can see them. I've never spotted them myself, but have been shown by some friends before.

I will be really impressed when someone shows me a raccoon they spotted on GE! ;)

This thread pops up once a year. Many people have seen elk, myself included. GE updates their photos every once in a while so the couple of times I've found elk, the photos are now gone.

Ike, you should be able to find them with the time slider.

Give never seen elk but saw my camp, wall tent, camper, etc.. with beef cows standing around in it.

I've found a few but mostly because I know the area and there are no rocks or brush where I see elk bedding. Only once have I found any that were standing and could be identified easily, mostly by their shadows and color.

Yeah, couple months ago I posted a picture of 31 elk in a group, that I could see fairly clearly in a draw area about 1/2 mile from where we hunt in CO. They were just on the other side of the mountain from where we normally hunt.

We now have 2 points so hopefully next year.

The date on the Google Earth map was August.

I keep finding more elk. Once you know what to look for and what scale, it actually becomes fairly easy. Needs to be in the open. Angle of sun helps tremendous.

I went to the street view one time and actually saw my two dogs in my driveway. Pretty amazing what they pick up. Looked to be early fall from the pic.

My wife has a concrete decorative pelican on the corner of our deck at the lake that you can see clearly. Amazing to see it all so clearly since they took more recent pictures from up there.
