getting some new gear,

have some early season whitetail pants, and core base layers.

I only elk hunt 1-2 weeks per year.

then I hunt the rest of the year IN Mississippi - temps range from 90 degrees to 20 degrees.

I am wanting a packable vest to take out west with me, as well as one for the long walk to the stand.

I like the looks of the Kelvin vest but it seems to more of a layering garment - reviews say that it is noisy and not very durable as an outer layer.

I also like the looks of the jet stream vest - but it only comes in optifade open country - I have my other garmets in optifade forest. plus the jet stream cost a good bit more, but who looks at that when buying Sitka ??

what are your thoughts?

any reviews or pointers?

You want the new Stratus vest in their WT lineup. Should be the best of both worlds.

+1 on Brotsky. Stratus Vest in Elevated 11. I think this would do it!

Be careful though you may end up buying a whole lot more of the Elevated 11:))

Ditto. The items you list in your thread are apples & oranges. Kelvin/Lite is strictly a puffy layering garment (although extremely packable). Jetstream is an outerwear (could use as a layer also).

But for whitetail hunting you need to be looking at Sitka's Whitetail lineup.

I pretty much agree with the above but will add that the Jetstream Lite Vest could fit your needs as well as the Stratus VesT. The Jetstream Lite vest is actually much more "packable" and does come in solid colors. Either vest will work. I own both and use both.

I bought the jet stream lite.

after returning a "stretch rain gear" suit to BPS for the third time figured I would annie up for better quality.

still got some rivers west rain gear that I can use as heavier outer wear

See Brotsky post above if multi use is important! C

I found a nice stratus jacket that I am probably going to buy.

I can't find a stratus vest in optifade forest....

I believe that's because they just started making it this year in the new E2.
