New Mexico Unit 53 for Archery Elk?

Does anyone have any info or knowledge about Unit 53 NM,Is there alot of public land and how good is the Elk Herd?...Thanks

Is hopewell lake in 53? It used to be in 52 - if it is I can help.

It has been a few years since I hunted elk but the last time I hunted it was in 53. My experience is that there are some good elk in the unit. There are some good areas in the unit. If you want more specific information send me a private message.

Were so good elk there a few yrs ago, seen few good Bulls but we not able to catch up with them due to the terrain and limited time. This unit is steep, bad steep in places.

I've hunted a lot of places....thats a unit I will only hunt once- no better than Colo OTC in my opinion...though there are some bigger bulls in there wandering in from the bordering units

I hunted unit 53 for years i have been all over that unit stay away from midnight meadows every tom dick and harry goes there . It is steep in the areas i chased elk ,Too many tags and landowner tags given out I never ran into hunters when i got deep.
