Ok I didn't see one started so here it is.

Wishing everyone has a fun and safe 2015 elk season. I will not be hunting elk for the first time in 10 or more years. As I did a pronghorn hunt in Wyoming for 2 weeks, got a United Bowhunters of Pa group hunt about the last week of September here in Pa and hope to do a mid November whitetail backpack hunt in the Catskills of Ny.. I have a spot that's a few hours hike that I found years ago that looked good. I got there again about 2 months ago and it still showing a lot of whitetail activity, tracks poop and trails. Not sure what brings them there, but my guess is a small 4/5 acre flat spot that's swampy. I'm thinking maybe the only water for a few miles.

Anyway hope to see some happy folks post here over the next month, also love to read some live hunt threads also. Ed

LOL not meat no elk, lots of people and I got a head cold/ sore throat that had its full onset at 10;30am. Slept/ napped tried to hunt from 10:30 am till 5:30, covered a mile. Feelin better now!!!

And how do you know they are bounty hunters, I personally know the outfitters that guided him and they put there work in year round to find these bulls. NO BOUNTY

From: BowCrossSkin
29-Aug-15
However,

I heard a screeching every 10-15 seconds getting closer, kept glassing the opposed side of the drainage and saw a fox? I could see it was not making the the noise. I glassed a coyote, it wasn't make the noise either, however the coyote was fallowing the noise as was the fox. I moved up the ridge to a better spot so i could see what was making that awful noise. Without glassing i saw something running long tail, glassed and it was a cat. I've seen a few and have chased them in the winter a few times, but i think it was a female in heat? Or a lost juvenile.

No Meat to post year but its cool being out in the woods!!!!!

Colorado - second day. My "7 second Elk".

In a new area (thanks to couple Bowsiters for the tips on where to look).

Partner and I were scouting / hunting, along a ridge - partner held up his hand in a "stop moving" position and mouthed the word ELK.

I looked up and saw the cow - put my GPS in my pocket, knocked an arrow, picked out and opening between two trees at 35 yards and hit the release. 7 seconds from the time I saw her until the arrow punched its hole.

I didn't realize it at the time, but she was quartering towards me slightly - the shot was about 2 inches higher than I aimed and came out a little far back.

150 yards straight down into "hell hole", pack out was a little over a mile and loved every step of it.

WY general. Had a tough hunt with quiet bulls and warm weather. Then miserable weather for 4 days. Lots of drying boots by fires. First year I was holding out for a big one. Passed a rag at 24yards on day 3 then missed a 320 or so bull on day 5. Got this guy on day 10, our last day, with 30 minutes of light left in our hunt. He was a satellite of a big guy but my brother called him right into my lap and I got a 25 yard shot. We were ready to throw in the towel before this last evening hunt but the persistence paid off.

Colorado OTC, man was it hot and quiet with very little bugling. Managed to get a couple bulls to work the eve of the 25th. This one came in and gave me a 21 yard shot.

My first ever elk wrapped up a 2 for 2 hunt for me and Jason(Huntabsarokee). 9/20 WY, Jason called this guy in to less than 20 yards twice before I could get a clear shot. After a staring match at 15 yards he turned to walk away. Jason gave him the "YEEOH" and stopped him in place as I came to full draw. Was able to make a good shot on him.

Elk were rutting hard last weekend in Colo. Arrowed this one twice at 20 yards within 10 seconds and he flipped over dead. Scrappy little raghorn broken beam on one side and busted points on the other.

This is how he fell.

Spent most of my hunting time on 3rd Colo archery moose hunt (successful) so thrilled with any bull on last weekend. There were at least 5 bigger bulls in the mix at close range but happily took the first to step into view and bow range to my calling.

Drew my bow on 4 different bulls in easy bow range the previous day and could not quite get the shot I wanted. Fun!!!

Took this great guy up and got his first bull! I think he had a lot of fun until the 4 mile pack out! This WY bull is one of the oldest elk I've ever seen... 18"+ G1-G3 but the backs of a raghorn. The photo doesn't do it justice but he has one of the biggest heads I've ever seen!

Best exchange of the hunt...

"Paul, he's just under 50 yards... get ready."

"No way he's closer than that!"

"No, Paul, he's just really big..."

Lol.... whitetail hunters!

This last one is mine.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!!

After we were done, I went over to where my son and a couple of his friends were hunting. My son, Tiege, killed a cow before I got there, but they didn't take a still picture but it's on film.

Clay Hayes, who makes the movies, like "Untamed", got a nice bull and Tiege filmed him shooting it.

Packing it out.

Clay used an osage snaky self bow he built.

AND YES, THERE'S STILL MORE!!!

Two of us in camp had moose tags this year. Mine was in the same area we hunt elk in so I got to do a combo hunt. Todd's was in a different zone, so he had to wait.

I know, they're not elk, but I got mine in elk camp.

And if you're wondering why I would shoot a small bull with a once in a lifetime Idaho tag, it's because I have pretty much zero interest in antler size anymore and I hate having to grind it all up to chew it and there was this great packing out solution.

As you can see, we are a little heavy on longbows. Consequently, as opposed to some guys in Idaho who think you need to shoot long range out west, the longest shot of the twelve animals was my moose at 30 yards. And that was a double lung pass through and I never did find my arrow in the tall grass.

Colorado. This herd bull was in a foul mood and running other bulls off. A perfect stalk, an aggressive bugle and one arrow created some new available "ladies" on the mountain. Awesome season spent with my daughter. This bull was for her, but our difference in kneeling height eliminated a shot opportunity for her even though she was right next to me.....
