Found the one we want!
Elk

Well after 8 days of hunting we found the one we want. Put him to bed this morning. Chomping at the bit to get after him tonight. He has 30 cows with him so getting on him will be no small task but he is in a pretty good spot with consistent wind. Gotta love chasing elk in September!
WOW! What state? Good luck going after him! let us know how you make out. Some of us are stuck here at home livin' vicariously thru others! ;-)
Nice bull! Go get him! And don't forget to post the story.
Any guesses on score?
I'd wager that's a 370ish bull.
I don't see him - is he behind that little one?
JK - have fun and get a lot of sleep tonight.
Go get him ! And to paraphrase Rut Nut, some of us are so old and fat that we HAVE TO live vicariously through others.
Good luck! I want to kill him too! God Bless and safe hunting
that's a good one, good luck
Had a pretty incredible hunt last night. Took us a little longer to get back up to where we'd put the herd to bed earlier in the day. By the time we were where we wanted to be, the elk were already up. They start feeding down the mountain towards the bottom. We knew of a few springs and wallows in the timber and we assumed thats where they were headed. Just beat them down and set up on a wallow. Within minutes we were covered up in elk. Bugles ringing nonstop all around us we picked the biggest and baddest bugle of the heard and started towards it, interrupting each of his bugles with one of our own. We bust 2 cows as we get within 100 yards of the bull. Luckily, no barks and they ran back up the hill as we hoped they didnt take the heard with them. The big bugle again. He was still there but we still hadn't seen him, no idea which bull it was at this point. Again he bugled, and again we cut him off with the biggest bugle we could muster. Then it happened. A crash then the heavy thud of hoofs getting louder. He ran straight at us and stopped for a few seconds, then turned broadside on the hill above us. Brad's bow breaks the silence to my right and the bull runs off the way he came. Then silence. We regroup and after exchanging each others version of what happened we took after the blood trail. We knew he was a good bull but when we walked up on him 100 yards up the hill we stood in amazement. It was him! THE bull we wanted lay in front of us. Of all the elk we had running around us, it was him that had shown himself first. Still cant believe it, probably never will. Awesome, awesome hunt.
Congratulations. Awesome bull.
Gotta get them off the camera. Ill put some up soon
Awesome! Ya gotta love when a plan comes together! Congrats!
Sometimes it all works out! Can't wait to see the pics.
Exciting right there! Nice work guys!
Congrats! I wish I could get into some elk like that. So far it's not looking too good this year for me.
Exciting hunt....Good deal!
Great bull Eric, that's one of the nicest bulls I've seen gotten this fall.. Congrats!!! Ed
Wow! What a beauty! Congrats to you both.
What a brute, his body and head look giant!
Wow, that's the best 3rds I've seen this year! Great bull!
What an awesome hunt! Thanks for sharing
Thanks guys, were still riding pretty high. You dont see many Montana bulls with better 3rds than that. Since we have pics of him on the hoof, might as well get some field judging practice out of the deal. What do you think he tapes out at?
I'm far from an expert but that is huge! Well done!
Way to go. Even better getting the one you are after! Congrats! Great looking bull.
will he go 380? looks realy symetrical <10 inch in deductons from what i can see.
Awesome bull! Way to get it done!!
Beautiful bull, congratulations!
Don't know how to measure a bull. I'll just say he looks awesome!
HUGE congrats!
He is a very good bull! I am going to guess +/- 366, but I am not good at judging...
Wow! congrats on a great bull!
That is a beautiful animal! Congratulations. No expert but 383.
Yeah hes 380 all day!! Nice job, especially with how you pulled it off. Special tag or general tag? Private or Public? Either way that is an amazing bull.
Awesome job. Calling your shot on a giant and pulling it off. Great bull.
Holy crap! Well done boys!
Congrats on an incredible bull! My guess is 386
I would think real close to 400. One thing is sure. That dude didn't get ground shrinkage. Congratulations are more than in order.
God bless, Steve
365! Dam fine bull my friend. Congrats again. Hunt
Great bull! I'll say 370.
Those 3rd's and 5th's are gonna put him high in the score!
Great for you guys.
Good luck, Robb
Wow! That is a bull of a lifetime!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't you just LOVE it when a plan comes together, chasin bulls???!!! ;-)
Congrats! Just curious what part of Montana? No specifics, just generally where that was.
Very impressive to find the one you want and then go out and get him.... Nicely done!!!
Thanks for all of your comments guys. Here's how he tapes out...
50" beams
36" inside spread (51" greatest spread, at his 3rds)
17" G-1's
19" G-2's
17 1/2" G-3's
16 1/2" Royals
10" Fifths
29" Of Mass
Puts him at 355 gross, 351 net.
We thought he was 365 after looking at the footage of him from the morning. We had him a little wider and with slightly better beams. His wide thirds gave him the appearance of a bigger framed bull. Field judging is a tough game to play accurately, and even the seasoned guides are off by a ways from time to time (especially on sheep and goats). Good learning experience though and still proud of can be of this bull. Best of all, we came away with over 200# of elk meat!
Ill attach a side shot of the bull to refer to as you look at the numbers.
Wow. Great pics and again congrats. I'm just amazed you were able to shoot a Bull that big without wearing Sitka from head to toe. ;)
Thanks again for sharing your pics and story with us. Outstanding bull elk right there no matter the score!
Beautiful animal - congrats on your hunt!
Pretty special hunt and animal. Fantastic
Wow! What a toad! A true bull of a lifetime. Great job guys.

Great bull. way to get it done.
