I was thinking about ordering up these. Has anyone wore them? I'm curious as to how comfortable they are....is there Velcro on the waist? I have a hard time shedding my boots to remove my underwear and thought these might be a good choice.

I wear the 210 Merino zip-offs a lot in the winter. There is a little Velcro tab that covers the zipper on the waist. They are very comfortable, I certainly do not notice the zippers at all. I have zipped them off before and it works pretty slick.

I was really intrigued, and had to look at them on Kuiu, until I realized that my outer layer doesn't zip off, and I'd have to remove my boots anyways :)

Bake, I assume that if you drop your outers you can rip your base layer off magic mike style and then pull your outer layer up.

I bought a pair and would recommend them. The zippers down the legs are not an issue as far as comfort. The two velcro tabs, one on each side, that cover the tops of the zippers are not a problem, either. The short legs mean there is no excess material around your ankles to bunch up, if that's a concern. They come off easy and are a pretty neat item, IMO...

Best bottoms I have. On elk hunts it can be high teens to low 20's in the morning. Come later in morning when temp come up, drop your pants loosen velcro, zip open and off they come. Same if you find a cool spot in the evening to sit and hunt. Drop pants zip right on and your good. Boots are a pain for me to have to take off and on. The do run short for a reason, they come to just above you ankles so they are not in your boots or shocks. Which I like.

Thanks guys.....I ordered them. Last few days have been hard on my card! I try to get that stuff out of the way early!

I agree as far as comfort no problem. The lighter weight version is perfect for archery elk. Have them on until about mid morning and then no taking off the boots to take them off. Only problem is you have to remember to wear merino boxers under them too.

Love the zip off base layers. Brilliant idea. So nice not to have to stop and take boots off as the morning heats up. I see my traditional pull up base layers becoming obsolete.

These are great especially when worn under waders. I have found them to fit much like knickers where the bottom comes down to mid calf. Being able to take them off stream side is wonderful as well I imagine on the trail.

All I know is Kuiu's merino quality is second to none in my opinion, I have been wanting to try the bottoms. I may need to pull a "Bake" and step up today...

I like mine......easy off when the day warms up. IFIRC they are not a high % of merino, at least on the heavy ones I have.

I haven't tried them, but a sheep hunter on another forum who loves the concept did not like the product in practice because the zippers do not stretch and make the garment more restrictive for hiking than the bottoms without the zippers.

Taking your boots and socks off isn't always a bad thing. Gives your feet a few minutes to air out and dry off. Does wonders on long hikes.

I'm in the minority...I did not like them. I have several pairs of the full-length leg bottoms by KUIU and love them. I bought the zip-offs in two weights and tried them. I just didn't care for the short legs on mine. I've never had a problem with bunching or wrinkling at the ankle, and (for me) the quick-removal option wasn't enough to overcome my dislike of the short legs. No big deal, as there are other superb merino bottoms out there.

The calves are a bit snug on them, and I don't have large calves by any means. I would not wear them for hard hiking as they are too warm unless it was brutally cold out. Last fall on a BC moose hunt we would take the quads from camp about 20 km and they were really toasty. When the sun came up and the frost melted they came off.

I'm with Kevin, too short for me! Great concept and good quality just can't get past the short cut.

Mine came yesterday and I was able to wear them around a bit. Seem like they will be ok for me but time will tell.

Love mine. Great quality like all their products. Great for elk hunts as noted above and early season spring turkey hunts. Short legs threw me off at first, now I get it

so 210 or 145's? whats the consensus?
From: Kurt

The 210s are really warm and thick.......good for late season hunting and quad rides on a frosty morning. I don't own zip-off 145s but do have regular light weight merino bottoms for the times you need more than Attack pants.

I'd recommend you measure your waist, I had no idea how far off my 31" pants measurement was!! Kind of upsetting really!
My pants came in, I washed them and when I went to put them away I noticed one zipper slide was gone....a quick email to customer service and they sent me a return shipping label. No problem. Not real happy they fell apart but I understand things happen, I am super happy with customer service!!!

My understanding is they work well, but you have to take them off before you get to the pole... too slippery to use on your pole dance....
