Ok I'll admit, it's killin me at this point not knowing. I'm fairly certain I'll draw my elk tag this year but I'm waiting for results on mule deer with about a 50/50 chance of drawing. I know there's got to be someone on here with some inside info on when the actual draw is taking place and when we'll be able to check via the backdoor method. Any thoughts?

I know we won't draw our elk tags, but my wife will draw mountain deer tag, I have a chance at plains deer and I put in for moose, not much chance there! There's a thread on Colorado page where I've seen several different prognostications of when the dates will be! I think deer and elk are next, not sure of the order!

Not sure of the exact date but I just checked and I can no longer see my deer pref points. I imagine the deer draw is happening right now. My elk preference points are still showing up.

Go to the CPW site Click on the "Buy/Apply for licenses" link
Log in and go to "Habitat Stamp and all other licenses"
There will be a list of "Products already on file" at the bottom of the page
If you drew, you will have an item that starts with a 500 number and it will not say 'App' after the species

I drew, my kids both drew for Deer- thanks CPW for the 10% increase in our unit. No Points going in except my son.
Don't think I put any of us in for Elk tags just PP only...

Ok so here's my next question... it shows I have a 590 for deer. But does this just confirm I drew my first choice (which in my case was a PP)? Or does it mean I HAVE an actual license on file, which would have been my 2nd choice?

It means you drew a deer tag. Could be 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice.

Can't believe it. Three year 40 appl/year tag drought goes on. Had 9 points and applied for a deer unit we had a 50/50 shot for, plus a second choice unit with a 50/50 chance. No dice again. Montana leftover gets closer every day. ?? Good luck

I called the CPW this morning and asked when the moose draw would take place.
The lady said the results will be posted June 1. I explained that the draw needs to take place before the results were posted and she couldnt comprehend why I would need that info.
All she said was the draws take place anytime within a two week time frame... which I already knew that...

Moose is up through the backdoor. 500 codes are showing for the lucky hunters. My backdoor keeps getting sorer and sorer when they shove all those moose and sheep points back in there every year.

Thanks men. My youngest daughter lives in CO now and is her first year learning the draw system. Checked her deer app and she had a 590 code. She is thrilled. Will elk work the same when it's drawn?

goHUNT.com sent a message out this morning showing how to access the results through the back door. It's fairly involved, but it appears to work. If you're a member, take a look.

It's actually pretty easy. Just go in as if you are buying a habitat stamp and it shows all your applications. 500 code means you draw. 400 means you either didn't draw or the draw hasn't happened yet.

Well where did everyone draw?? I drew U-76 with 17 points, as a Nonres. I've been spending a ton of time getting to know this unit. I think I know it better than my go to unit even after hunting my go to 3 or 4 times and I didn't even step foot in u-76 yet. I've chatted with about 5 or 6 guys that hunted it in the last few years getting in tel. Time to start getting more detailed maps of the areas I'm planning on hunting. I like Game Planner Maps, anyone else check them out. Their a great all in one place to get info..

Even though I have a 90% chance of drawing my elk area, I was still shaky and nervous when crawling in through the back door.
Teeton, Game Planner maps are a good tool. DIY Hunting Maps will show you the closed and decommissioned roads that Game Planner does not. Start My Hunt maps give you a habitat breakdown so you can really dial in to figure out feeding, bedding, and security areas. I use all three maps in my scouting and on-the-ground hunting. Have fun in 76. You'll have a blast!

I was super nervous after someone posted knowing 20 people with 20 points or more applying! I either got super lucky or that count was a little high at drawing time. Past draws indicate 20 would cover most everyone with 18 or more.
Guess I need to drive North and go over some maps this summer! If I can get the cabin, maybe you'd be free one weekend to show me around before it gets too close to season?

BGHUNTER00, Last year it took 12 points to have a chance.. I think last year 20 of 25 guys with 12 points drew.. With point creep most likely 13 points was needed for a chance. But it may not be going up a point every year. So who knows. Maybe this year 10% with 12 points drew. After the 2016 stats come out you can see what points was used and the number of guys with what points they had used to draw.

Guys if you drew 2 or 201, stuff like that it doesn't really matter, but if you drew other units why post them here? Once it's on the wide open web you can't get it back. You may not be able to or ever want to hunt the unit again, but it is a unit someone else hunts and probably doesn't like to see the added pressure/commotion etc. Pm's work great. My .02 take it or leave it.

I've been hunting out west for over 20 years and will help everyone that asks me for help or volunteer to help others. If it was not for guys helping me I may not of ever hunted out west. My hunts have been much better from guys knowing where I'm hunting and offering me help. I never give out info that others give me.. I hunt out west from 2 to 3 weeks a year and have given out info on places I've found.

It really sucks being at the top of CO NR No Man's Land with 20 points. This is the definition of point creep hell. I'll bet all the 21 point guys who got their unit 61 archery elk tags will be replaced with the exact same number next year. Should have burned these on five 4 point units long, long ago.

He shows a 500 code for elk. He applied for a Hybrid tag 1st choice and a Prvt Land Cow tag for 2nd choice
He is hoping he drew the Hybrid but wont know until the results are posted :)

I can remember drawing 61 with 2 points and a few years later 76 with 3 points Both rifle NR Bull tags. Then they went to selling points. So now Its once in a lifetime. I would rather go every year than wait 20 years or longer. Any way We drew a ML Bull tag unit 62 with 2 points. Being 75 it Archery OTC and every 3 years MLs .

Ed, I don't believe anywhere I said you should not help people, or trade information, etc. This all can however be done via pm, email, or god forbid a phone call......Do as you see fit, but just take a look at point creep in lots of different units. Do what you need to, as I said it was just my .02 and I was turning a light on because maybe some people hadn't realized it.....

Hey Ed, no I wasn't singling anyone out, don't even know what you originally posted. I just mean in general it seems the last few years guys have been saying particular units, even specific areas within units on open forums. Yes there is no rule or law against it. However it takes time to learn units/areas and then to have someone else just spell them out all over the world wide web. It's hard enough with magazines like Huntin Fool, Eastman's, etc giving their "top" or "blue chip" units. I'm just suggesting that guys help one another and ask for help via pm. Don't get me wrong, I've also asked for help and given help. I just try and do it via PM or email or phone. Just suggestions, nothing else.

Elknailer, 61 was the unit I was chasing for a long time.. I've been 2 points behind for years. Looks like maybe 3 now. So this year I burned my 17 points on a different unit and some how feel a little bit better that my points are gone.

elknutz- if you drew any elk tag at all you would have a "581" code. The "481" code just means you have an app on file. Refer to the photo "Ace of Spades" posted above and that's what it will look like if you drew an elk tag.

elknutz, Last year 177 people drew 54 as a 1st choice. That left 228 tags up for grabs as a 2nd choice. 317 people applied for 54 as a 2nd choice leaving 89 people who didn't draw 54 as a 2nd choice. I imagine the number of folks who didn't draw 54 as a 2nd choice is even higher this year.
Just fyi, these numbers are res and non-res lumped together. Visit cpw stats page for more detailed breakdown.

I hunted U-54 quite a few times and the first year it went draw we got left over tags. I think I hunted it 3 time since it went draw. For some reason I don't think and others that I know that hunt it a lot also don't think it's as good as when it was otc. Why ?? I don't know why?? I've have over 100 days hunting it and the last 3 time I hunted it,, I didn't see as many elk as the the last year I hunted it and it was otc for the last time.. ????? I've hunted it from as little as 10 days at a time to I think 20 days..

My first elk bow hunt was 54. I had talked to Ed that summer about the unit. In the 2 years we hunted the unit we seen elk every day and had our chances every year. I hear about elk being seen by a certain trailhead but I never seen any until we were 3 mules in. Beautiful and very steep country.
