So is it $1 for a 6 hour forecast or $1 for a 3 day forecast?
Mark
In my case, I use the basic plan. So a weather request would count against my monthly allotment of texts. (I think it is 40 off the top of my head)
For other plans, it looks like they charge per request.
But I have not called them.
I too have the minimum plan, but come September I will go to the unlimited plan with all the traveling and hunting [CO/AK/NEB/WY] it will be worth.
They were just on sale until May 30th for $225 and there will be another sale for Fathers Day I believe.
The weather icon came last month and to get the weather, it does count against your message count
You can take advantage of the (3) pre-programmed text messages (outgoing). These are free messages you can send as much as you like and they don't count against your monthly limit.
Here's an example:
I have one message preprogrammed to say "Location check, all OK. If sent repeatedly
So I can let friends/family know where I am and that I'm ok, but if I send several messages from the same location they know (I've already coordinated in advance) whichever person is to meet me at that location.
Another "Spotted
I occasionally preprogram one of my 3 to read "Send me weather forecast for next few days. If sent repeatedly, I received the forecast." This way I can request the weather as well as let friends/family know I received it without burning texts. And since my message shoots out to several people, once I receive weather from whomever responds first, I can let them all know that I got it and others don't need to send.
You get the idea - surely you can get creative with how you want to program your free messages to leverage them into additional meanings.

So- I have one of my pre-set messages to say 'Just checking in - No reply needed'.
Are we talking about the same thing?
Never heard of this for the Inreach.........
Has anyone added this extra coverage?
"Up to $100,000 in additional Search & Rescue expenses. Only $17.95/ year"

Forgot I had this bookmarked, it's the free service. If you put the address and message that's given in the webpage i posted in as one of the free presets on your unit, it will only cost you one message to get a very basic point weather forecast. I think it's close to as good as the one you pay for unless you have a smartphone paired and view on the smartphone, then the pay one is better
