New Mexico unit 6c

Anybody have any experience hunting elk in new Mexico unit 6c? This unit borders the Valles Caldera and Bandelier national monument, hoping those areas provide the elk with a chance to grow old. I am not familiar with the area and any help or advice would be appreciated.

It's a tough unit, the elk can be scarce, hard to locate

I assume you are archery hunting it. The areas you mentioned get pounded pretty hard. To me it is more like hunting whitetail than the secluded big country elk hunts that most folks imagine. Lots of hunters, as well as hikers mountain bikers & trail runners move the elk around making it tough to pattern them. Being in the right place at the right time pays off. Since the fires most of the southern part of the unit is covered in NM locust, don't wear clothes you don't want shredded.
