Sometimes the story doesn't end the way you think it should.
Just read your story, well written and transparent, which I enjoyed.
The best part for me was when you went back out and sat and thought about things.
Yes, back on the horse, comes with the territory.
The transparency and honesty makes this a truly great story with an ending we're all giving you the "nod" on.
Well done.
Tough story to read. Thanks for sharing, though. Well-described.
I laughed at the title of the post! But thanks for sharing the story! We have all been there, at least I have, a few times! Keep shooting and keep hunting! Stay focused and stay positive!
Great pictures by the way!
God Bless and good Luck!
Scar!
Well done! It's not all unicorns and rainbows all of the time or all of us would live in the woods all year long. It can surely be tough sometimes.
Enjoyed your write up about your angst 'cause it wasn't mine. Looking forward to next year's story with a different ending. Kudos for sharing what it was.
A bite at a time. I was there with you brother.
JLS, Thanks for sharing this with us. I have had the unfortunate displeasure of sharing one or two of those sandwiches over the years. I hated the taste of it each time. I am convinced that you can never get used to that meal.
It should bother you. It should bother anyone. And serious contemplation is a byproduct of integrity. Time to shake it off, learn what you can and look to next year.
Welll written with great photos. Thanks again for sharing your story with us.
It happens to all hunters as you said. The thing is, you didn't do anything wrong or, make a mistake. It just happens. Good luck and God Bless
This bowhunting thing ain't easy. I just came off four days of antelope hunting where I could have easily been through either of those days with a rifle. That's why we do it. If it was easy, there wouldn't be room for all of us.
Kudos to you for the feelings you have when losing an animal. You should, we all should have those feelings.
Gimme a bite of that, I've tasted it before !
Very well-written JLS. Had this happen with me on a deer at home right after spending a week and a half elk hunting. It seemed like a chip shot and I didn't think it through, which resulted in me picking the wrong pin on the sight. Hit high and lost him after two days of tracking. I was ready to quit too. Glad I didn't.
A lot of guys are not as honest as you. They will tell you all about their home runs but never about the errors.
VERY well written. You captured the deep, emotional dent that can be as crushing as catching your high school buddy making out with your girlfriend. At least in the latter situation, the adrenaline from the fist fight makes you feel a little better. No one to beat up in the elk woods but yourself....
Thanks for sharing.
