Due to the weather forecast for the west central Montana area this coming week, six days of rain/snow. What are your thoughts on waiting to hunt last week of Sept. thru first week of Oct.? I normally hunt the first two weeks of season but decided to hit the peak of the rut this year. Looks like it may be biting me in the butt. Is there less hunting pressure? Bulls still bugling? Thanks!

They still bugle but the frequency and intensity drop off after the peak. If the snow gets deep enough the elk will move to lower elevations and stay there until firearms season opens up.

I've always said once Oct hits, things change. At least in the areas I hunt. It gets a lot harder. I'm with ya though, this forecast looks like crap. Hopefully they miss the forecast and it's not as bad.
