I'm new to hunting in New Mexico. My buddy drew an Elk tag (first time ever even applying for any hunt) in Unit 15 for late season muzzleloader in November. Neither of us know the area but are going to try and get up there at least once in October to scout. Friends of ours do a lot of hunting in the Luna area but we will be in Aragon. Any suggestions?? Not looking to get any honey holes just need a start. Thanks

I've muzzy hunted the cow hunt at the end of November. I would bet where you find them mid October won't be where they are in November. They will be pulled off the cows into the solitude of the steep and nasty. Areas like the south side of Dillion mountain. The south end of Slaughter Mesa might hold a few. There's no secret spots but look for steep and nasty. They will be visible enough just hard to get to. On my five day cow hunt we were into many herds in low areas and saw the bulls on the nastiest hillsides in those areas. Good luck and pm the post hunt pic.
