It's getting to be that time. Let's see if this year's thread can beat last year's for the number of different bears posted.
Last year we hit 141, but we did let the gun kills share!
Show us what you took and a comment or two about the hunt, outfitter, location, date, etc.
Good luck to all and may this thread be l - o - n - g !!
..
Bou it was 141????????? I thought it was 155????????
I'll check back in about a month. Until then, I will content myself to seeing all the monsters out of Ontario.
Bou - I was going to PM you to see when you'd post this. Millie and I will be bringing a few 'newbies' to bear camp this year. Can't wait to get their pics posted. Good luck to everyone!
3 weeks till I go out. I might steal 1 weekend before then.
39 days and counting. First bear hunt and I starting to get fired up.
Bou'....you mean you let gun kills in on this? OK, I'll just wait to look at the Bow kills! Bear Bow Hunting should be going on now in a lot of places. QUEBEC is my favorite place to go!.... ((*;
My son and i go may 30 - june 7 Idaho.
yeah that's right herm...........distasteful as it may be to some folks. it's about the bear not the projectile. we want to see bears and hear stories.
Here is a 300 win mag boar my friend got May 2nd. Ran with dogs in Utah.
we're off and running in 09, thanks !

Another Kodiak Bear at 5 years old and 8 1/2 feet taken on day 1
Thanks for posting the BOW kills Mike. Its good to see them on the BOWSITE.
My first bear hunt in the snow ten yards from ground blind
Thanks for posting the photos of the grizzlies, it's good to see them regardless of how they were killed.
ZebraKiller: is that bear dead or still hibernating?
we got 12 inches of snow the second day of the hunt did not slow down the bears
Zebrakiller: Where did you go for your hunt?
Just back from a solo coastal brown bear hunt in SEAK and finally after many tries arrowed one with my longbow. Is a small sow that is skin and bones after a ruff winter. Would have shot a bigger one but they all ran away!
My hunting buddy sat in the treestand tonight; and had a black bear with a white muzzle come into the bait area; but it was intent on following the trail in the snow we made taking the stand and bait in. He had a 20 yard shot; but didn't feel confident in the shot- so the bear waits for another day..
The BOW killed bears are awesome....good job bow hunters!
Leaving in 10 min. for AK. Will be back on the 28th hopefully with a picture or two. Good luck to all and be safe.
Plum Lake outfitters in Ashern Manitoba hunted with him for ten years great camp
Even small brownies have big paws and claws!
Great job Steve H.!!! Beautiful lookin' bear.
Way to go Steve! Musk ox to Brownies...you are the man!
Steve: my smile would have been bigger :)
Steve...You the man. Nice work with the longbow (a bow he made himself, by the way).
I think I put good mojo in this bow. I have shot at two critters and two critters be dead! If I would have known that I could have lobed an arrow at the MUCH bigger bear at 35 yards the day before, lol.
BTW, 13 yard shot, zero yard recovery (no, not the spine).
I try to make all my shots at bears at under 15 yards.. and you are showing why :)
Gotta wonder - what is the length& brace height of your bow ?
Here is a Utah archery bear I got Tuesday. Shot over bait. 15 yard shot. My first bear hunt and won't be my last.
Here are some we took this week
Great picts and great stories. Congrats to all.
I just returned from New Brunswick and had a great time with a guy named TAZ. I am a fellow Canadian who has never used an outfitter before in my life! In fact my buddies and I who bow hunt deer together, do a do it yourself bear hunt each year here in Ontario and sometimes introduce new bow hunters to bears (i.e. we don't guide for profit!!!). This year, business took me to New Brunswick so I thought, what the heck!! find out how others do things AND don't turn me in to Revenue Canada, but I was able to deduct some mileage expenses for business :)). Anyway, has some great fun, met a couple of Michigan hunters (father and son) to share the camp with and had a blast with these new friends and shot a bear. Regards to all from Canada, Canuck
My brother's first ever black bear.
Mine. This bear had an awesome white "V" on its chest. Bear sage Bob is on the right.
Two more bears were in camp but I was not involved in the recovery and do not have pictures.

Got this coastal brown bear in Alaska the last day of a 15 day hunt with my bow
Clutch great bear must have been one hell of a guide to put you on that magnificent animal. Anybody we know????
My 1st longbow bear from a couple nights ago.
BPM--no one that you would want to know
Manitoba Bohuntr you are the man! Another nice bruin...Congratulations...give us the details.
new brunswick 5th bear in 5 years with taz
Nice bear Bou'bound. I hope I can live up to you're standards.I heard that there is still 2-3 ft of snow on the ground in BC. By the time I get there all the bears should be looking for something to eat. My friend that just got back took a 7'10" grizzly. He did see 7 1/2 to 8 ft black bear but, couldn't get off a good shot. Hopefully that bear will still be around while I'm there lol. car
We got 5 bears for 4 bowhunters last week in Alberta with Bear Trap Outfitters. We all had chances to double but sometimes nerves get the best of us. 3 blacks, a chocolate, and a chocolate with a blonde back.
The 1st pics was the one I shot, my first bear.
Here's Kim's 1st bear.
Here's my brother's chocolate...
And his chocolate blonde...
And my buddy Dan with his 1st bear on the left in the photo...

Is that that Michael Stipe guy from R.E.M. in your photo?
I'm back from New Brunswick and as promised, the report. Hunt dates 5/18-5/22 Bay of Fundy area, weather was drizzle first night, then 50-60 degrees the rest of the week. 9 hunters in camp, 7 with bow, 2 with rifle 6 bears shot ( 5 with bow, 1 with rifle ) Only 2 recovered! Including Mine!! UGH ( more about that in a minute.... Largest bear taken was 250lbs Total sightings, 13 bears, no large boars All hunted baits were active, last light and at night. I personally had bears in front of me 3 of the 5 nights, I did shoot on the fourth night and took an awesome shot at 12 yards. The bear was around 250-300lbs, I took the shot at 4:30 pm while he was sitting down, tucked it behind the shoulder, midway. The tracer bnock worked like a charm. Perfect so I thought, he bounded off, heard a roar ( no death moan ) and then quiet. I walked out, waited for the guide, and the decision was to go in after him. We found 11" of my arrow, with the tracer knock flashing and coated in red. After a trail of 50 yards or so, we found lung tissue and sign of spraying of blood. The guide marked last and we were to resume in the morning, which we did. We took up the trail at 6:30 am and tracked for another 100-150 yard, still bleeding on both sides but the sign starting to get sparse. After the last 30 yards of crawling on hands and knees, the guide decided to stop and I was heart broken, not only for me, but the animal as well. I can say this.., the shot should not have been taken while he was sitting down and I will never, ever use the same head on a bear again. I'm not blaming the head, however, I really do have a new found respect for this animal as one tough, smart animal. I congratulate all the sucsess on this forum and the bears really look great!!! Thanks to all and look forward to more photos.. All the best -Rich
Congrats to all!! Some great looking bears.
Here's Carcus' bear from 2 nights ago.
Took this fella on the last evening of my hunt. The Rage three blade 100gr. broadhead left a blood-trail like no other I've seen. I watched him go down within 40 yds.
Idaho Blondie. Not a big boar, but good color. 5' and yes died with head downhill, hence the blood trails down his forehead.
Nice shootin', Bou! From the looks of the picture, the bugs were fairly thick up there again this year.
Did Taz force you to eat any honey curlers? hehee...
iowaPete
PS. Was Nick up there with you this year?
up to 28
yes nick is still hunting pete
Stalked. 25yds from ground with recurve.

Skeet George out of Texas with a snowstorm cinammon Alberta bear. Taken with Mike's Outfitting, gun kill at 20 yards.
Here are our Alberta trip bears. We hunted with Trophy Book Outfitters (would not go back) but had a good time. Wanted to get my dad on a big bear, but my buddy ended up taking home the "big one".
My second bear in the snow.....
Dads bear in the snow.. He took his with a Pronghorn Longbow
And the largest of the group. This pic just doesn't do this bear justice so I'm adding one from the trail cam as well.
This big boys last morning walk in the snow...
My manitoba bruin shot may 11th.
Congrats to Manitoba Bohuntr...again! You have to hold some kind of record for most number of massive bears, and now you're doing it with a longbow! Way to go Ryan!

whats up with all the snow bears this year. beautiful
Speaking for my group, NW Alberta held onto winter longer than usual.
No news from the Garret Bros????
I have been going to Manitoba for ten years now and first year with snow it was crazy we got 12 inches in four hours I thought I was in deer camp with the clothes I had to wear.
NW Alberta is still getting cool, crappy weather, May 28 and barely a bug in sight. Hopefully it gets better. Getting good moisture though for antler growth on our deer.

Well fellas we just finished up our week here in the river boat camp, we went 200% this week with every one except one person taking two bears,
we spotted over 130 bears in 7 days on 30 bait sites, The biggest was 20 2/8 then a couple 19 and a 18 3/4 with two brown ones shot this week, excellent shooting fellas with 100% recovery on all bears.
The fly in camp so for is also just over 100% on bears with a couple guys takin some dandys also.
Heres a pic and cya boys again next year.
Taken Monday at Trail End Camp in Manitoba.
my son in new bruns last night of trip
Nice bears everyone. There are some real ground pounders on this thread!
My cousin shot his first bear. It was taken in Manitoba.
here is a small sow(125#'s) I shot in the last hour of the last day of a 6-day hunt at SugarLoaf Outfitting in Manitoba. I saw around 35-40 different bears during the week including 2 absolute monsters, one never gave me a shot and the other came in about 5 minutes after shooting light with my bow. The biggest was awesome. There was about a 300# sow with 3 yearlings on the bait(she was every bit of 300#'s !!!!) She was kicking every other bears a$$ that dared come into the bait and chased them thru the woods. but whenever she heard something she couldn't identify, she would send the 3 yearling up a big pine and put her front feet on the tree. I knew a big one had to be out there. near last light, another sow with cubs tried to take the bait but the big sow had none of it, then all he\\ broke loose and the sow with the cubs flew up a tree and the big sow flew up a tree with her yearlings and I was trying to figure out what was going on when.....he stepped out broadside at 8 yards!!!! he made that 300 pound sow look tiny!!!! i sat there thinking, 10 minutes earlier and you'd be dead. But that's hunting, the sound of the quad coming spooked him off and that sow stayed treed while i left, i guess me and the quad were less scary then the boar. that was day 5. i was glad i passed up all the other bears i could have easily shot during the week to just be able to see that big one. The last day, (day 6), i held off all night waiting for a big one to show, but at 9p.m. i decided i didn't want to go home empty handed so i decided I would shoot the next bear i saw, if i were to see one. Well about 20 minutes later this sow had the misfortune of catching me in the only hour of my entire hunt when i would have shot her. She had a bit "V" on her chest and a nice pelt. Soon my BH pinged off the barrel and she bolted, ran 30 yards, got half way up a tree and came crashing back down with a thud! end of story. I was excited and pleased to spend a week hunting and elated to bring home a bow-killed-black-bear.

Our good friend Jason's Bear 09
All of us with Dave's Bear that scaled 425 lbs
Hey, just got back from our SAS bear hunt. we had 3 guys and took 3 bears. My buddies dad took his the first night, nice bear with a good coat, he took it with his infamous '44' rifle. My buddy took a nice cinnamon on the last night after holding out for a big one. And I ended up with this good boar the last day on a morning hunt. We roughed him out at 18+ so hopefully he'll make book after he gets cleaned up and dry. we had a great time and saw lots of Bear's, there was a 21" and 19+ taken during the week as well. I've got a vid clip I'll try and post when I get some time.

Kansas bowman ! nice bears congrats, old Dave sure does have a big old smile.
I see the count at 47. Are you counting the Rifle kills? Just curious. Anyone interested in having their skulls beattle cleaned let me know as I have a friend who has beattles. Comes out very clean.
i am counting different bears shown above. i am more interested in the bear than the projectile.
Here is one from this week. DIY Idaho (with some buddies), Montec CS 100 head out of a Bowtech Guardian.
I got a bit fooled on this bear and even looking at the great video of the event, I still get fooled. Still, here's my first bear from Alberta's Athabasca River. Pronghorn longbow, Woodsman head (BROKE the offside upper leg bone). May 27th.
The next day, I took this much better bear. When I get pictures from my hunting partner on this trip, I will try to post them. He killed one this size, and then also killed a 20" chocolate that is just gorgeous AND big. Our hunts were with Jason Lambley's Hunts From the Heart (guides in AB and MB).
The night before the shot... Utah DIY
I was lucky enough to draw an Archery tag in Utah. Its tough with only 2 baits and 20 Houndsman chasing Bears all day. Had to skin it out before it could be weighed -- approx. 350lbs.
Awesome bears guy's! I killed a pretty blonde bear on the 3rd here in Utah. Not a giant bear but I could not pass up the color phase! Here he is:
Here is one more pic and a link to the video/shot.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jD33e45nuRw
Silent Stalker, nice shot and nice color phase. How far did he go?
He went about 65 yards. Basically about 15 yards out of sight of the camera to the left. I was shooting a Parker Hornet bow set at 72# and a G5 Montec 100 gr. While I was really worried about a blood trail due to the long hair on bears, It was not a problem. He bled very well!! That Montec did a great job!!
Glad you liked the footage. Wish I had more footage of him but he came in from behind and I could not wait when I saw his color!
Here is my hunting partner Derek Dobryzinski of Maryland and his first bear taken with Jason Lambley's Hunts From the Heart in Alberta.
And here is his second bear taken with Jason Lambley's Hunts From the Heart in Alberta, a big and gorgeous chocolate whose skull should land near 20". Derek Dobryzinski of Maryland, and he used a Bowtech Admiral I think. He owns/operates Appalachian Archery in Hancock, MD and probably has both videos up and running in his shop now. Great guy to share a camp with.
wary...where's the photo of the chocolate???
First with a long bow. What a thrill!! Congrats to everyone!
It's a little redundant but there sure has been a lot of great bears and great photos again this year. Nice to see quite a few trad equipment hunters as well.
Congrats to all ...
up to 55 can we get to "155" ?
Nice little blonde we harvested wednesday evening , hunter was happy his first bear
Here's my partner's bear. We shot him May 22, everything on film! Two happy young man from QC!
Here is a Nice One I took May 27 in New Brunswick hunting with Carl Stewart at Old Pine Lodge!

Could not pass up the color phase - killed last evening of a week-long hunt
HERE IS THE NICE P&Y BOAR I TOOK ON MAY 28TH UP IN NORTHERN SASKATCHEWAN.

I HAVE TO TRY THAT AGAIN, I ADDED IT FROM MY PHOTO BUCKET, AND IT WORKS ON OTHER SITES.
Silent Stalker, Not really sure, it bottomed out the scales at 300 lbs. This was the fourth bear out of eight-in two weeks taken at Old Pine Lodge in this class. Some years it just seems the "Big Guys" want to cooperate!
No pictures from Chase this year?
I shot this bear May 26th in Manitoba. Had a great hunt.
Ronnie from PA took this Bear last week ...
Mathews Switchback ... tuned up to 72 Lbs ... Gold Tip X-T Hunter tipped with 125 gr Muzzy - Bad to the Bone ....
Spot and stalk .... SE Alaska Coast ....
Bear in the Boat .......
I second Cameraman's observation ... where's Chase this year? Also waiting for a few from Rob Nye.
Just an awesome thread this year - some magnificent bears and same for the pictures. Really enjoying it. Congrats to all the hunters.
chase said on a post on the NB forum he did not have hunters coming in until the middle of june.
I think the same is going on for Rob Nye. His fly in camp was "iced in" earlier this year. He'll also be taking guys a bit later.
EXTREMEBWHNTRSS....Michele....that's a Great Bear... Congrats!! (*:
1bow and Camera Man I still read the site but seldom post. Here is one I posted for the "Master Baiter" in the NB section.

Pink Mountain Outfitters BC. A fantastic hunt with terrific people. I hgighly recommend them. This is my son's first bear. It may make the magic 20" number+.
SteveB
Great picture George - congrats on your success as well as the happy hunter pictured above.
You've contributed a lot to this site in the past and would love to see you continue.
SteveB, Congrats to your Son. How many bear did you see? I'll have a bear tag in my pocket when I am hunting with Pink Mountian this Fall. Primary will be moose. I have taken two bear with the bow. But I will get serious if one like your Son took gives me the shot.
Here's my 1st in Alberta with Jason Lambley's "Hunts from the Heart". My buddy and I each took 2 P&Y boars. My wife was there to video. Great hunt!!!

My 13 year old son's 1st bear.. Manitoba
slow day.....only up to 68
Reindeer Lake, Tate Island lodge in northern Manitoba is still iced in for the fly in hunt. It's 10 days till I'm supposed to leave and I'm stressing out. We were supposed to go in June 6th, but no dice. Now it's tentatively the 19th June. Is spring late or what?

Jeffs Bear,way to go buddy!!

Victoria Outfitters, Newfoundland. I had a good hunt considering I only had two days to hunt out of 4 days allocated due to airline issues.
June 2, 2009 19 & 7/16ths
Bob it seems you never disappoint !
Thanks, but I missed another one at least as large as this one my last evening of the hunt. It was too dark and I should not have shot. Had to do some creative "peaking" around my peep to get the shot off. Luckily, I missed low and the bear is now pretty well educated, even more than from when the other two hunters who sat that bait had spooked him.
bb - Nice shooting! Super bear. Ya gotta love dat Great White North, eh?
iowaPete
This is the one that got away, darn it!!!
By the way, the bait site was officially conveyed from Big Dan to my wife when he sold his cabin. She passed on this bear and I figure it might have a 20 inch head. Big Dan, its Cavern Lake, but you already knew that, right?

My first bear. Taken on the last evening of the season in Manitoba.
June 11th. 2009, Manitoba , My first Bear.
These two bears were taken with Jerry Cook from Outland Outfitters,Manitoba. Jerry is a great guy and will put you on bears. If your looking for a 2009 fall hunt get a hold of Jerry.
The other beautiful cinnamon taken the 1st night at Jerrys.
Forget first bear. My first kill of any kind!
Ken Taylor - just noticed your pict from a few days ago. You must have gotten him your first night out! Way to go! Great looking bear.
My first bear taken in Alberta with Jason Lambley of Interlake Safaris.
I took my second bear on the 4th evening in Alberta. I was the last hunter to tag out in Jason's fly in camp. I know that all 8 hunters filled both tags and I believe 10-12 of the bears will be P&Y. It was a great hunt with a lot of big agresive bears.
Leaving for Idaho this morning. Can't wait. Look forward to this like it is Christmas. 10 days in the wilds of Idaho YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Will post results when I get back.

My First Color Phased Bear. Shot on the fourth night of the hunt it was the 6th bear to come into the bait that night. I got the hunt on video using the Riser Cam. I was truly excited. We had a great hunt with Ted Jowet Outfitters
Very successful hunt in Quebec again this year. The group of guys that we take went 6 for 7. This includes my 2 bow kill bear and third bear over-all.
Timber
Here's another Quebec bear to add to the tally. The video of the shot is posted on Bowhunting.TV. You need to have the sound turned up to appreciate the vocalization the sow made while putting this guy in his place...repeatedly!
My first bear taken Alberta with Jason Lambley of Interlake Safaris.
My Second bear taken Alberta with Jason Lambley of Interlake Safaris. This bear was taken while going into bait as this was an agressive bear. Shot him at 10yds on the ground and is all on video. Awesome hunt
This is my first bear from BC. Hunted with McGregor River Outfitters.
101 so far. running out of psring season guys let's get them all posted

Just returned home today. My first bear. Shot in SAS on June 15th. I was very happy to take my first bear. Bowtech Admiral also first kill. Warm up for Alberta 2010. T8 can't wait.

Tom with second bear from the hunt
And me with the last bear taking during the week all were bow kills
before photo of same bear
Clients are gone and some good bears still hitting baits so I'm going to go and try and get a good meat bear tonight (There are 2 great boars on the baits so I'm sure a little one won't come in if that's what I'm after) and let my deckhand try for his first with a bow before we take the baits down this week!!!!
we had a great 09 spring season here at Duck Mountain Outfitters. Here are some of the bears we shot and I'll try to get the rest This bear went 450lbs, 21 1/8 green
Bill Dundero 440lbs 21 1/8 green
Hunter Dundero 364lbs 20 green
Chris Morris 406lbs 21 1/8 green
Bob Webber 425lbs 21 1/4 green
Marcus Morris 354 19 3/4 green
Greg Ruiz 354lbs 20 1/4 green
Woody's bear 300lbs 20 1/4 green
Caleb Shellinger 12 years old 265lbs 19 3/4 green
Craig's bear 385lbs 20 3/4 green
Joe's bear 310lbs 19 1/4 green
Of course none of the smaller bears I was going to try and take showed up, just 2 big bears. So I took a clients son out last night and figured it would be good PR! We were in the stand less than an hour when this pig showed up. Great bear and squared at 6'8.
MBGuide - as usual, some incredible picts. Congrats on a great year! Beautiful bears.
Quebec 7 ft shot from ground blind

need more to tie last years' 141
Granddaddy, Let's go bear hunting!!
Bou I think this might be it what do you think?
there is always fall and a lot of bear fall in fall
122 so far so if we can tag 20 in fall we beat the 141 record.
Oh I thought you were only counting spring bears. Wow will break the record for sure :)
MB guide,
That is one of the most beatiful bears I have ever seen, here is mine from AZ DIY public land fall bear hunts, and one tough hunt.
Good luck to all. Ryan

I got my first bear with a bow this past saturday in Maine. It was a DIY hunt. A very special thank you to all that helped me pick a location, choose bait and setup my barrell. Without this site it never would have happened. He dressed out at 160#s and was shot through the heart with a 125 grain crimson tallon broad head. 70# hoyt viper tech with a 675 grain arrow & broad head combo (wegiht tube included). Got to the stand at 5:30am and shot him at 8:30am. Best part was I have it all on video!
On the right my first bow kill bear using my Mathews DXT at 70lbs with a G5 Montec CS broadhead and on the left my 16yr old son's first bear taken with my Marlin .45-70 Guide gun. Both bears taken on Maine's opener. Both were over bait and from a ground blind. The bears were taken within a few hours of each other and a little more than a mile apart.
First ever bear. Fall hunt in Manitoba with Bear track outfitters..
Come on keep it going don't let my ugly mug be the last

Wow! Some really nice bears and a few monsters as well. I'm still looking for mine :)
I was happy to get a spring bear (posted somewhere above) in New Brunswick on my first ever outfitter hunt. I have always done it myself and had shot 8 bears that way. I went with Mark de Jong (aka TAZ) and he put me on to lots of bears, it was a great time and I'm going back next year for sure!! This fall I did my annual do it yourself hunt in Northern Ontario. We have extra tags up here (and you can also party hunt). I took two bears on the fall hunt. Here is bear number 1.
Here is bear number 2 on the fall hunt. regards to all from Canada!

Here's mine from this weekend in the beautiful N. Georgia Mountains......my first bear ever. Not big by any means, but very very happy.
Bear was taken 5 Oct 09 on the Iliamna river. Hunt was with Frank Sanders' Alaska Trophy Outfitters. Shot was just under 20 Yards while walking in the river full of sockeye salmon. It went 40 yds and died on the river bank. What a rush! It is an 8' bear.
It started to rain that night and the guide and I were tent bound for the next 6 days while the wind and rain pounded the area. This part was trying my patience but all in all it was a great hunt experience.
