WY region D-unit 79??

Found out we did not draw our WY tags, looking for a new unit. Unit 79 east of Saratoga in the Medicine Bow NF has some leftover tags. Anyone have any experience in this region lately. This gonna be an archery hunt. 4 guys, this will be my dads first western hunt and uses a crossbow due to a shoulder injury. He is capable of hiking just fine. Not really looking for a trophy hunt just a quality hunt. We usually hunt out of a base camp and spike out if need be. any info appreciated. thanks.

Spent the weekend in 78 ... covered a lot of ground and saw 1 mule deer. Still in velvet, wide is about all I can say.
I'd google the Platte River Mule Deer Project and see if you can get some information. I'd think Game and Fish could give you more of an idea on how the population is doing.
