my opening day Nor-Cal blacktail.
Very Nice Deer. CONGRATS!
DL - I had a deer like that hanging around my house - a really old fellow. Awesome trophy.
dhp great buck,, dl funky.........
He was from the southern part of D5
Thats things freakin gross.
Imagine how gnarly that thing would have looked after the velvet was gone......
Nice deer guys and gals !!
Just can't imagine shooting one before November !!
Its a cryptorchid buck or cactus buck. They never shed there antlers and are always in velvet. This guy was probably living his last year judging by teeth condition and physical shape. I saw him on a trail cam at a friends and had to have him.
Somehow, I knew who the orginator of this thread before I even opened it...:) Great bucks people...
Are Sitka Blacktails allowed?
DL,
I did NOT know that about crytorchid bucks...!!!
Nice bucks guys! I'm 0-2 vs. these suckers! I'll have to plan a trip in the next 12 months to redeem myself!
Nice bucks guys!
Bob, love the Sitka. Someday I need to do a Sitka blacktail hunt.
Great bucks guys... Congratulations. Ed F
I had a good opener in Calif as well.
My buddy Jeff's B-zone buck.
Congrats everyone!
Sorry to see you shot a small one this year Chris. ;)
Thanks David ha! Jeff's bucks great! Love the eyeguards
Awesome bucks guys! Congratulations. Seems this year is starting out with a bang!
Here is tag #2 for me in Nor-Cal. Sat in the stand for 3 days total of 15 hours til he finally showed himself. Made it count!!
Great buck joe! Congrats! I figured while Brent and I were in az on our elk trip you were scoutin like a mofo. Lol
Good looking hybrid, Joe......congratulations on a fine looking buck.
Congratulations Ron! Awesome deer!
He obviously, "...tasted your cold, hard steel."
...one more hunt in AK and I'm headed home.
Cool angle of him I thought :-)
Congrats on another great Ca deer Joe... you guys definately know how to get it done. Huge body and ears on that beast. Ed F
Some really nice bucks & great photos! David
Great looking buck Joey C. Bux!
Nice Joe...baby got back!
Thanks guys. Ed I appreciate your congrats. Highly respect you and what you do for our hunting community. Thanks buddy. That bucks outside spread was 21 3/4" his ears look bigger than they are. I think his ears span out at about 18.5-19". Deceiving huh? Thanks again everyone
Nice deer guys !!
Cant wait for November, Blacktails in the rut !!
Joe do you know the name of this fruit that we have here . They are black this time of year and have two large coffee bean looking seeds. They are a primary bear food source here where I live. The leaves are also turning yellow.
Great bucks this year again. What do you attribute to the massive body size of the deer there? How much did that 4x4 weigh?
Can't wait for November either. Bucks in the rut... Haven't hunted Columbia Blacktails in a long time. Good luck Mike... Ed F
Here's a record book Doe. This isn't a mule deer either. Its one of our western slope blacktails.
Dang phone double posts. David
Congrats on another stud Joe!
NOR-CAL Blackie that took my second tag during the gun season. He had a huge body, already swollen neck, badass rut on his mind attitude, and he strecthed the tape at 161 2/8" gross. One of my best bucks to date. I couldn't be happier!
What a buck!!! Congrats! Me and a buddy hitting the closer tomorrow. Public land b zone in the rain with our bows ( yes, it's still gun season). We hit the mountain bikes and gear to keep up out there all weekend.
That's more like it Chris. ;)
Tkyslyr, that is a toad. Congrats.
Way to go Chris, that is a very nice blacktail !
Congratulations Chris. That's an awesome buck!
Damn Chris! u and joe mama kill some nice deer! LOL congrats to u guys!
This came into my shop today. It was taken with a bow on a 600 acre piece of BLM. 25" spread, 4 1/2" brow times and a two point 8 1/ 2" drop time. Great mass too.
Anymore late season blackies falling needing to be added to this thread?! Ive seen this rutted up blacktail bruiser chasing does hard this week several times while scouting.
I'm leaving on Wednesday... 11 days of rutting blacktails... Ed F
There we go congrats guys! Ed good luck!
I'd shoot that buck slr!!! :)
Joe and the other hunters
Obviously gettin er done, but I'm more jealous of the property than anything else. As we know, in CA a lot of it is about access.
A smoker blackie I found chasin a doe hard.
And one more pic to gawk at!
Looks like you found your next victim Chris !!
We get after it this weekend Chris! Stay tuned!
Should be some Sitka's hitting the ground about now!
Lots of great looking bucks, congrats to the hunters. Good luck Wirehair.
Btw, lots of gorgeous bucks but I think I'd take the button buck over all of them - it's the most unusual.
Wow, some awesome bucks and I love the pic of the young man with his spike. That is reall cool.
Here is my contribution:

Great deer blacktail bowhunter! Here is my contribution!
Wirehair, great buck congrats! Love those late season chocolate brown coated bucks.
Nicely done little brother !!!
Some nice bucks guys keep them coming!
Great buck Wirehair congratulations
Bad ass lookin buck wirehair
Nice buck Wirehair.
Here is my sister in-laws blacktail.
My Sis in-law has wanted to try hunting for the last couple of years, but I have not been available to take her out for rifle season. So this year, I told her if she wanted to go, she was going to have to bow hunt. She was game, so I got her a Velocity Race 4x4 Package.
She got the bow on November 18th and I told her as soon as she could shoot 2" groups at 15 yards, I would take her hunting. She was serious about it. It took her less than a week to get to 2" groups, so after going over deer anotomy, angles, and shot placement, we got out today November 28th for her first ever hunt. She picked up her tag last Tuesday exactly a week after getting the bow.
She has done a lot of target shooting with a gun and I believe it really helped her pick up archery so quick. Eddie at Broken Arrow got her little bow shooting bullet holes on the set up and she took to it like a fish to water.
This fork in horn has been a regular. We got in the ground blind a half hour before daylight and this guy showed up around 11:30 am this morning, milled around and offered her a shot after about 10 minutes. She made a perfect behind the shoulder shot at 15 yards. The buck went 60 yards or less. I got 10 minutes of footage and the shot on video. Her reaction after the shot is priceless. I hope to get the vids on youtube sometime after all of my friends and families hunts are concluded. Here is a pic for now.
Bbh, again congrats for her! Great blackie!
My 2nd CA archery buck. A30
Here's one that showed up for a photo op. Lots of junk on him.
Here's a California Columbian Blacktail in Lake county. Kinda Nice!
Kind of nice??? If I didn't see the tail end of him I'd say no way it's a blackie. Of course, you sure that isn't a 'pet'?
Hangs out around a residential area. Not a pet.
Yea they do get that big William, jus gotta findm ;-)
DHP, that is a hell of a feat. Congrats on a great buck. I tried for 3 years with a trad bow before finally connecting on a spike Blacktail. I went back to wheels for ethical reasons. I hope to pick up the trad bow again someday, but going with more of a sure thing for now.
BlacktailBowhunter, thankyou. I've been back and forth over the years between compound and traditional. That buck made me decide to commit to trad again.
"If I didn't see the tail end of him I'd say no way it's a blackie." -hhhmmmm interesting ;-) nor cal has some big ones
DL That's a tank for Lake County!
Got this picture today. I think its a result of being hit by a vehicle. Five brow tines on each side.
Damn, now we've got a real strong candidate for weirdest rack of the year.I'd almost prefer to see that as a euro mount just to emphasize the antlers. Congrats on all those who connected with a bow. I lost my ability to bowhunt my deer property (darn women) so I had to be content with rifle harvest. I'm not going to sully real hunters efforts with easy kill photos.
I forgot to mention that this was the young mans first archery buck.
I do see a few Columbian Blacktails in the mix as well! I hope to get one someday! Congrats!
A late addition to the thread, my first mule deer ever taken last month. He will be very, very hard to top.
Nice buck JP. Where'd you get him?
Thanks. Northern Arizona with Big Chino guides.
Apologies in advance for not reading "Blacktail" meatpole instead of mulie. Not sure if the mods can move or if I should re-post?
That is a beautiful basket buck... incredibly symmetrical. Congratulations. No need to move it... Ed F
jp rich great muleys love his deep forks and height!!!
Thanks guys. The symmetry is really good except for the little browtine on the right side only. Front forks are great and the pics don't really do justice to his mass. He green scored right at 180".
JP.....awesome buck, congratulations. Don't worry about the mule deer.....there are a few of them in this thread. :)
That is a remarkable buck JP! Congrats.
