Sitka Blacktail Meat Pole
Mule Deer

I didn't see any other Sitka Blacktails on the Blacktail Meat Pole thread. Anyone else kill anything in Alaska?
My first blacktail, I got him on the way out of a goat hunt on Kodiak
Lee,
Nice buck. What do you figure that bad boy scores? Couldn't your guide find anything bigger than that one for you? Must have had a crappy guide or something.
Them blktails are tasty buggers ,Bob any idea on how old some of them bucks r u kill on avg .
I bet the two I killed from the Kodiak Buck Shack this month are from 5 to 7 years old. Both huge body size with really heavy racks.
I think the one from Southeast was a bit younger, maybe 3 or 4 years old.
I'm thinking our buddy Lee above killed one that hadn't made it around the corner yet. My understanding is that his guide forced him to shoot it. Hard to find a good guide these days.
Bob he just misses by a mear 70 inches :)
Some great tasting tender meat! Roy was a great guide but a bit of a tent hog, hehee.
might be the smallest blacktail ever posted on bowsite.
Post it on the turkey thread...that would be a nice set of spurs.
I can see why someone would get hooked on these deer !
Bob here is the first one I shot this year. Been busy haven't much time to post any pics.
Mark, Congrats again!
Zackman piled up some bucks this year on Kodiak, maybe he will post a few!
Mark,
Another great buck. I love the color of the antlers of those bucks you kill in the fall. Maybe next year I'll get down there to try it again.
Bob
POWMAK sweet looking buck whats a rough score on buck like that
I have not put a tape on him yet but he should go in the low 90's.
Here is another where he fell. He's very symetrical.
Looks good Mark, congrats!
Although most on here don't appreciate symmetry and rave over gross score, I like symmetry. I’d pass on many to kill a beautiful symmetrical buck like that one. Nice buck!!!
How did the goat hunt go Lee That looks like a Waupaca buck to me.
Mark's buck is the picture perfect Blacktail... doesn't get better than that. Huge body, Great coloration, Big, good symmetry.
Can't wait to go back after them 2015 or 2016. After I killed 3 back in 09 I said I'd probably never go back.. boy was I wrong. Super fun hunt.
Waupaca buck! Lol. Here's a few Waupaca bucks from awhile back.
Bob you must be drooling over the symmetry on that monster I shot :)
I didn't want to say anything, but he must be within an inch of being perfectly symmetrical, what a beautiful buck! I know the scorers love bucks like yours because the math is so easy.
don't have pics of mine but I will say hntnfools buck was his big brother, lol.I got to get back out there again this August instead of mid-Sept.Without a doubt the most fun deer hunt I ever had. Note to self, start training like an elk hunt.I had no idea how tough it would be and pushed myself to exhaustion each day.Loved being up in that alpine though. Some beautiful country
Bob, can you pm me the pricing imfo for your Whale Pass cabin?
Cabin rents for $3,500 for two guys. You can use the cabin up to two weeks. For 2015, the months of August and September are still open.
Flights from the City of Kodiak to the cabin are in a Cessna 180 which is adequate for two guys and their gear. last year it was $2,000 round trip.
This Sitka looks pretty symmetrical :)
that looks sooo good right now!
Better late than never...
These are a couple bucks I arrowed on Kodiak this past November. We flew out a day before the big typhoon hit and had some "Kodiak weather" for most of the trip, but it was a blast. Not the biggest Sitka blacktails, but these two bucks added up to three archery deer slams for me.
Fun trip with great friends. Already have two more trips planned.
Thanks George and Lenny. Good luck on Sitkas this year George! Can't wait to hear about your trip
Great job Zack and Bigdan!!!
Mark
My wife and I want to do this before too long!
These two bucks are what I killed from the Kodiak Buck Shack last fall. I was just out there Mountain Goat hunting. There are deer everywhere. No snow and green shoots coming up in March indicates another mild winter with the deer heard in great shape.
