Hunt the early part of the season when they're concentrated on feeding and bedding, or the pre-rut when you can call them, or the rut when you can ambush and decoy them.
But seriously, why don't you plan a hunt in KS and save the NR license fee? KS has great muley hunting.

I'm planning to hunt NE and KS this year. Along with eastern CO if I draw. The Nebraska Outdoors website has a good interactive map with all the public/walk in areas overlayed on Google Maps. In their big game guide they have harvest numbers by species for each county. So you can get a good idea of where the populations are and what kind of access you might have. Their rifle season is much earlier than our's in Kansas, so I'd keep that in mind. I don't have any big hopes of killing a giant, but seeing some new country and a chance to keep hunting is good enough for me.

Who do you think would win in a Basketball game between KU and Nebraska? Kansas every time, same goes for Mulies.

I have hunted the NW corner for about 5 years now. It has a fair amount of public land. It receives pressure as well. The population isnt great but there are muleys and some decent bucks. I have never tried getting permission for private but I would expect it would be difficult to be had.
Honestly there are better places to hunt muleys if your only option is public ground.

Jaqumo.... why not hunt both?? we are only allowed 1 buck tag here in KS, in witch i plan to use with a whitetail.. that being said, as like KB said, seeing new country and try to broaden your hunting abilities! and i will more than likely be hunting public ground fulldraw...where do you suspect is a better place than NE to hunt mulies that you can buy over the counter tags?

"where do you suspect is a better place than NE to hunt mulies that you can buy over the counter tags?"
Answer is - Kansas, if you're a resident.
I know, I know, you want to hunt both states....

By all means hunt Ne. I was just giving you my honest opinion after hunting the area I hunt. SD is OTC more or less with more public ground. Lots of tags can be had in Co with zero points. Heck the last co tag I drew was 2nd chance. If you do decide to hunt Ne and hunt the NW corner shoot me a pm. I will help you all I can.

It's not very well publicized, but I understand that those of us <30 need bowhunters ed certification for NE? I've got mine, but figured it's worth pointing out. Apparently something magical happens at that age for NE bowhunters?? :)

luckily i took bow ed when i was 12 or so! Fulldraw, i appreciate HONEST OPINIONS! As far as applying for draws, getting point, ect ect im not familiar with any of that as the only out of state hunting i have done was waterfowl in Missouri. I am only 26 so im just at a point in life where A. i can finally start to afford other hunts B. Im not getting any younger C. All my buddies only want to hunt whitetail, but im ready to venture out on to other hunts!

You have ruffly a month till the app deadline for Co. Lots of time to research and find a unit you can draw and have a good hunt in.

Did anyone see that hunt on the sportsman channel last night? I believe it was a bow only area of Nebraska and in the Sandhills? Looked like a good outfitter with quality animals to me!
