It has been extremely busy here at Shiloh. Many of you have PMed me or emailed me about posting pics. Some of you have been wanting updates on hunters success.

Our hunters have been enjoying a 90% success rate on truly wild hogs this year! No guarantees here at Shiloh except for a great time! One of our hunters recently said something that sums up the way the majority feel. "This is definitely a tuff hunt, but we see tons of hogs!" If you hunt hard and paid your dues, shots will come.

Cheryl and I are in our 8th year of running Shiloh Ranch since we established it back in 1999. We have met at least over a thousand hunters in that time and wouldn't take nothing for our experiences! We've made many great friends and have been featured in several popular Magazines, Newspapers (Look for an article in this Sundays Topeka Capitol Journal) and TV shows. We've had our ups and downs and thru it all we believe God has helped us and blessed us. THANK YOU! All that have been a part of our life and helped make Shiloh Ranch a place where many new places that are starting, model after us...(Though many won't admit it :-)

Here are the first hunters of March at Shiloh Ranch. This photo is of 4 hunters out of 6 that took some awesome boar their first evening out. (Tonight) Sage, made a short work of finding and baying one of the hogs too! She has found well over 700 hogs for us! I will break down the individual hunts tomorrow.

Enjoy!

Has it been 8 years already? Wow, I can hardly believe it. How long since you did this full-time? As one of your "downs" in this bumpy road of life, I just gotta say that Shiloh gets better each time I come. I know I've come up on the short end of the arrow a time or two in the many adventures I've had with both of you. I agree, I wouldn't trade it for anything. Congrats on keeping a great hunting ranch just that...great. I'd like to invite more people to come and enjoy Shiloh Ranch but hey, it's getting hard enough to book a hunt, imagine another 100 HAM newbies added to the place. You might have to expand. Maybe hire a short-fat, white-guy to help out. Hint, hint. Best of luck, see you in 29 days or so. Mike

Mike, can you believe it!?! Yep, 8 years and we are still ticking :-) Full time is going into our 5th year. It's folks like you that make it work, and you have become a dear friend! (Free help...hint hint!)

Here is Scott Koerner with his first Shiloh Boar. (One closest to him) Scott's boar weighed 140 pounds...A very respectable hog indeed!

Congrad's Scott!

Congratulations Guys ~ those are some great hogs! Welcome to the HAM brotherhood --->

There may be others but there will be no other Shiloh. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery! Shiloh is definately a class operation and your longevity proves it.

Hey Mike, Is that statement (short fat white guy) a shot at me?

Curt, The SFWG is a moniker that I've used for many years. I just kinda "grew" into it. Matt & Cheryl, those boys took some dandy hogs. It just keeps getting better. The Porkapalooza will be the best. Raising a porkchop in honor of those new HAM members. Hamicus

Matt, Cheryl,...and Sage

Just getting back from our hunt over the weekend at Shiloh. Thanks very much for an outstanding hunt. Everyone had a great time and we should have no trouble filling the slots for our planned April 08 hunt. Your operation provides a challenging hunt with good sized hogs and feeder stations that provide opportunities for ethical shots. Our group went 5 for 6 with everyone getting shot opportunities. I cannot go without mentioning your dog "Sage" who certainly earned her dinner by baying up a hog on Friday faster than I ever imagined. Thanks again for a very enjoyable hunt.

Scott, thanks for sharing a camp with us. It was Cheryl and I that enjoyed having you and your group. Looking forward to seeing you again next April. Give me a shout this week if you can.

Thanks again!

Matt - It looks like you have the cleanest hogs around! I think most of your hunters must shoot the pigs just after they get out of the shower. I wonder where they plug in the blow dryers??? 8-)

Can't wait till June!!!

The Ram pictured above scored an impresive 84 1/2. It made the Bronze medal books falling short of silver by 1 1/2". A big thanks goes out to Matt and Cheryl for a great hunt and hospitality. This was year two at Shiloh and it was great. It was also a pleasure to hunt with the two Colorado boys for the second year in a row. Hunting with people who share a passion for the hunt is a great feeling and makes the hunt a success kill or no kill. Keep up the great work at Shiloh and we wish you the very best.

Two weeks from today. Can't wait. Fatten up a few pigs for us, Matt.

And, I'm bringing a special treat for the piggies....the wheel of misfortune.

12-Mar-07
"The wheel of misfortune." I like that Kevin! :-)

For the R.O.E scoring you measure the 2 horn curls, the circumference at the bases, and the midway circumference of each horn (midway based on 1/2 length of longest horn) and add them together for a total score.

12-Mar-07
Jim,

Likewise my friend...Chad and I enjoyed hunting with you guys again...lets see what we can figure out in April. We'll be in touch.

Here's Bret with a 184 pound boar. Bret hit the boar a bit far back and called us to bring Sage "The Wonder Dog." You that know Sage know that she is always fired up and ready to go. This is Sage's 8th year tracking and we have wished we knew exactly how many hogs she has recovered. It has to be near 800-900 hogs and other critters. We found a faint blood trail and off she went. About 5 minutes later she fires off! "Yipe...Grrrrh, Yipe." Sage had the big boar bayed up in the creek about 250 yards from where Bret had shot it. It was in a bend in the creek standing in about a foot of water and sage was trying to hold it at bay until I could dispatch it with my .223. The boar had plenty of fight left in it and I had to make an 80 yard shot from high upon a ledge where the creek bank dropped off. I had to time it until she charged in and then charged out. I shot it and it dropped. Sage, as ususal, loves (As Cheryl puts it) those "exploding hogs!" She promptly jumped in and tackled it. Bret and Sage with "their" trophy boar! :-)

Hey Ricky, $300 for a 2 day hunt. 1 hog. Usually Matt & Cheryl will allow a second hog for an additional fee. They are sponsors here and you can check out their website. Good folks, great hunting. Tasty hogs! Best of luck, Mike

Matt and Cheryl, Really glad to hear the hog hunting is going so great. Can't wait to get back for a 4th trip, the new guy's we brought last time are itching to go again and are wondering when the next trip is going to be.

Where was that last big hog taken at - he is a monster!!

I know you have some 'lady' hunters coming from NY and NJ soon - if at all possible I'd love to see some early pictures before they get back. of course that's assuming they don't run into some big bad snakes or spiders, then they probably won't go out, or maybe Cheryl can escort them to there stands, sometimes you have to do a little hand holding with those guys;)

J/K guys - good luck this week! Remember, that last morning is sometimes the best, get your butt's out of bed;)

Thanks for that vote of confidence Eric. I can't wait for Thursday. Matt- what exotics do you have right now? A few of us would take something if the opportunity presents itself. A price list would be great if possible. Email me Tim or send a message on here. Thanks, cant wait to down there later this week.

Our group just got finished with a hunt this weekend at Shiloh and I want to thank Matt and Cheryl for a great time. The hunt at Shiloh is alway a great challenge. I have hunted the ranch the last three years and the hogs just keep getting bigger. The excitement and the suspense of the hunt keeps our group pumped all year round. I would recommend Shiloh to anyone that was looking for a thrilling hunt and good people.

Thanks Rob

Does anyone know what the fee is for an additional hog? Thats a long drive to go there and spend 250.00 for one hog. I took a look at their website and it gave no prices on hogs and was showing deer fees for 2005.

From: INbowdude
20-Mar-07
Drew, Matt or Chery at Shiloh are the best source to answer that. If I remember correctly it's either $2 or $1.5 per pound for the second hog. Shiloh is a 12 hour drive for me but worth it. I usually try to take a second hog. Don't eat the ribs, they are no good. Send them frozen to me, and I'll discard them for you!!! Best of luck. Mike

21-Mar-07

Tradman and Huntress's Link
Drew- We don't have any "deer fees" listed on our website, and our hog hunts run $295. Perhaps you were looking at the website for a different Shiloh Ranch (I believe there is one in PA that does deer hunts). The cost of the hunt includes one hog of any size but you are allowed to shoot a second hog for $1.50 a pound. That way if you only want to shoot a meat hog for your second hog, it's more affordable. It also helps us control the population of smaller hogs by encouraging folks to take some of the meat hogs. I'll attach a link to our website that gives more details.

1 week and counting. Matt & Cheryl, what do you suggest to use for ticks? I've got a bug tamer suit and I was wondering if there was a spray or something that you've found successful in keeping the little critters at bay. See ya'll soon. HAMICUS PORKKILLUS
