Just got back from a youth hunt in Idaho. Idaho allows kids 10 years old to hunt small game. So my buddy Mike pulled some strings and got his Ten year old boy Eli in to Montana hunter safety program. He passed and the hunt was on. We left Friday at noon from Mt over the hill 3 hours to Kooskia ID. HUNT

With lots of daylight left we take a drive and do some scouting. After seeing Deer , Elk and turkeys we head back for dinner. We have Ribeyes and eat like kings. Sleep comes easy. HUNT

The next morning we are up early and in a diffrent blind. Birds are hammering on the roost. Then all goes quiet. Gobble so close it shakes the blind. then 15 hens and 4 tom close in. They are all inside 20 yards. But move off with no shots. HUNT

So we move to the blind from yesterday and wait. And wait. We here a few random gobbles but nothing close. HUNT

Then bam. There a solo bird. He comes fast and Eli hammers his 2nd bird. Its a great bird with 2 beards. HUNT

I remember my first turkey hunt in 1988 with man Dads friend Joe Tucker. I hope Eli remembers his with old Hunt Dawg. Hammertime. HUNT

Yes its a 870 youth model 20 gauge. A great gun for the kids. I still have my first shotgun. 870 pump. Great gun. Thanks guys I enjoyed this hunt as much as any. HUNT

Thanks, Hunt....I've hunted with several pros who logged a youth model 870 because it was so lightweight, could be fitted with a good turkey choke and was pretty much indestructible.
By far the best youth gun for the money...let them shoot just one shell at a time for a while, and they're set.
My son's will no doubt be used by his grandkids.
Again, neat pics and story.

Awesome Hunt! Loved every picture.
A couple things:
1. Your boy must take after his Mom - good looking kid! Haha.
2. If you ever want to see more game and bigger bulls/bucks, etc. Take a kid with you. Every time I take my kids it's the best hunt I have ever had.
Props to you for making an effort with your kids. It seems like a simple thing but those of us who have kids know its not.
Did you do any videoing?
I shot my first deer in Kooskia and love that area. One of the most diverse places in NA as far as what you can hunt. In 2 days of hunting there I saw elk, deer, mt. lion and all kinds of game birds.
