Who has pics of new antler growth. The pic I'm posting is one of the first this year. Looks like beer cans on his head ! Think I'll call him Bud, the King of Deers !

I saw one on Saturday who had the same amount of growth although he didn't have the mass that the one in your pic has.

I saw one on Saturday while turkey hunting that had some nubs starting to appear. Nothing like the king of deers there but he had the beginings of something that could be decent!

I don't know what this one is going to eventually grow, as he is not a big bodied deer, and looks fairly young to me. We will see what develops. Put them out a new block today to replace the one that's about gone.

Does anyone use any special minerals or food to get bigger antlers?
If so, what's the best?

Great vid Smoothie ! I almost switched my camera on video last Sat. Think I will next time I go back to my place. I noticed what looked like scars or scratches on the first buck's back. Here is a pic of a doe with some gouges on her. Don't know why, but there are no highways or good fences any where within a half mile of where she spends her time. Bobcat maybe ?

Picked this one up a little over a week ago. Must say I'm surprised at this much growth, especially considering how dry it's been around here this Spring.

I've been using the Trophy Rock Mineral Rock the past several years, however, I cannot tell if it has a direct impact on antler growth. I do know the TRMR is a magnet to all genders of deer in the spring and summer.

Drycreek,
You can use salt blocks or mineral licks before the season in TX? Here in MI they wont let us until hunting season starts.
From: drycreek

Yes sir, in fact I am required to supplement since I am Level III MLDP with Texas Parks and Wildlife. They don't tell me what to use, but there are several criteria to be on the management plan, one of which is supplemental feeding. I can use protein pellets, bagged mineral, or blocks, etc. The coons eat all the pellets, so I use both loose mineral and blocks. Deer have to be " trained " to eat pellets anyway, in my experience, so I don't fool with it.

Could the gouges, scratches be from trying to rub off the winter coat?
From: drycreek
17-May-14
I don't think so. Never have I seen it before. These look like gouges down to the flesh, although not serious at all. I got lotsa bobcats, and coyotes, but this looks like bobcat to me. Coyotes go more for the back legs from what I have seen. At any rate, if it was a cat, it was a bust !

BTW, I will explain the two blocks. The one that looks new is a salt block placed merely to get pics. I used to get some slick, hard blocks from Tractor Supply that had more minerals than salt. Kinda like WalMart, you can't always find the same stuff when you go in six months later. The blocks that look like hell have minerals, but won't hold up to weather. When I checked my cams today, I mixed up some infRACKtion loose mineral in my old Whitetail Institute mineral sites. From the label, it looks like pretty good stuff. I will see how the deer like it.

Don't know city, but they are creaming my beans. Beans in the exclusion cage are close to two feet taller than in the plot. If beans will build antlers, they aught to grow quite a bit more by the end of August. I have clover also and they eat on it quite a bit, but right now they are mainly in the beans.

I make my own mineral, special blend of vitamins and minerals, I start them on it in late March, I have hundreds of pictures of deer eating the crap out of it. Every two weeks it gets devoured bucks and does alike. I actually started selling it in the last two years. Every mature buck that has visited a mineral site has a beautiful full thick rack, even the two year olds pop up great looking horns, I'm watching a two year old now who probably goes around 130, but he's safe for a couple years. I call him dynamo :)

The area where these pics are taken sometimes has 4 bucks at a time on cam. Almost every day there is a 3 legged coyote that strolls by as well.
Note where the deer is standing and why....
