Colorado Dream Season Elk Tag
Elk

I was told I'd get more input if I put this on the main page -I won a raffle - I can hunt any unit any season - my goal is to kill a big bull in archery season - I'll be hunting in units 2, 201, & 10. Just found out yesterday - I've never even been to that part of the state - any tips for pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated
can't help but, damn! Congrats!
You have been blessed! Congratulations. Have a great hunt. Do a semi live hunt if you can. Sorry I cannot offer an advice since I am a flat lander.
Wow! Dream come true for sure! No advice for you except have a great time!
I might retire if I drew that tag so I could hunt the fall for the big one! Congrats on the tag. 2, 201 and 10 will hold a big one but lots of area to cover. Good luck.
Get hold of Jaquermo. Definitely the units Tracker suggested.
If its the raffle tag don't you have more time than just "archery season"
I bet the week after archery season and before 1st rifle would be awesome, like Sep 29-Oct 3 with no one else out and the rut going hard.
Didn't notice the change to the hunting seasons. Used to be Sept 1-Dec 31 any weapon any unit (as long as it was open to hunting)
Makes the "governors tag" not so good any more...
I'm not sure of all the rules, waiting on DOW to call me
First of all, congrats!
Tracker is spot on +2.
I know I would be talking to Lou also. People who have hunted the units per Tracker are few, but are generally going to be very forthcoming with info. Anyone who has hunted those units is likely not going to hunt them again in their lifetime.
With the raffle tag for elk you can hunt day from the opener of archery until 12/31 any method including rifle during archery and you can hunt the "quiet" time of Spet 29-Oct 10th. Very fun tag to have...enjoy it!
Rules here and link below. http://cpw.state.co.us/Documents/Hunting/AuctionRaffleRegs.pdf
Licenses for each species shall be valid on a unit by unit basis from the first open season in a unit for that species after August 1 through December 31, except as provided in regulation #210(D)(5)(a). Licenses are not valid in units that do not have an open season for the species between August 1 and December 31. An open season is any season in which licenses are issued by the Division by drawing or over the counter for the species. 5. For sheep, goat and moose, manner of take must be consistent with manner of take restrictions for any ongoing open season, or if no open season is ongoing, restricted to the manners of take allowed in the unit or part of a unit. 6. For deer, elk, and pronghorn, any manner of take legal for that species can be used during the period the license is valid, except pronghorn licenses are valid by archery before the last Saturday in August. 7. Licenses will be valid for one year only and only in accordance with applicable provisions
Yes, any weapon, any unit, starting aug 30th continuing through Dec 31st.
Congrats! Hunt hard, have fun. Shoot us some pics and the story when you can.
Damn that's awesome. So many bulls and country to cover. Id have a hard time picking where to go
Man, you won the lotto my friend, congrats
That is great!!
I certainly would add unit 40 to your list if ya happen to know a landowner.
Congrats
Good luck, Robb
Don't think you'll have to worry about "quiet time" in 2, 201, and 10...
If you divide the square miles of the units by the number of tags given out, I think the entire zone could be defined as "quiet time" during the entire archery season.
I'm not sure if it's tranferable but i'd give ya pretty good $$ for it if it is!?
I'm hoping with the few hunters it's all quiet time. Up there rifle season starts oct 1st and goes through the 11th so no real gap between seasons. The tag is non-transferable, pretty sure they don't want someone auctioning it off.
I didn't know. A few tags around like that are tranferable & can be sold.
Best bulls in CO are in unit 40 on private.
I'd look at 201 if it were my tag.
Well that season in over. Archery kill Sunday night.
Congratulations! Impressive bull. Must have been a great hunt. Feel free to post up more pics and a story of the hunt.
Awesome bull! Tell us a story!
Congratulations! Nice bull. What's the story? What unit did you get him in?
Outstanding!!Congrats on a great bull.
Fantastic! Congrats. You need to share more than those pictures now!
Congrats. Made quick work of that.

Congratulations on a great tag, & great bull! We sure would like to hear the rest of the story.

We need a story! Congrats!
Please disclose the unit...wonder if it was OTC?
My bet is unit 2 on the north side of Douglas mtn by the boulavard.
Unit 201 - Cold Springs Mountain - the western side - I'll get more pictures and the story. I still have an OTC tag to try to fill.
Cool... I forgot that the west side of cold spring has the same rocks.... Good luck on your OTC tag...
I was good friends with TJ the goat hunter that died...that's the real reason I don't feel like posting my whole story yet. We spoke on the way to each of our hunts. The entire time I was hunting I was looking forward to telling him my story. He is the person that got me interested in western hunting & transformed me. My other buddy and I found so many sheds we left some, TJ was a big shed hunter so I was keeping track of areas to point him in the right direction. We both had quality fun with our trail cameras, and I had a mountain lion on mine I couldn't wait to share with him. I found out about his death on the way home while riding the high of my success. It was the first instant I gained cell reception. I went from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. I wanted the throw up. TJ you will be missed.
TJ and I hiking in OTC camp a few weeks ago
That hits way too close. Sorry for your loss.
Sorry to hear about your friend, those circumstances would definitely take you off the high. Congrats on a great bull.
Bittersweet, sorry to hear about TJ, but congrats on your bull. Im sure TJ is wandering heaven's high country smiling down on you...
Boddy,
So sorry to hear that. Damnit man... I can only imagine what's running through your mind. Stay strong and fill that OTC tag for him. All the best.
Congrats again, but so sorry to hear about your loss. I'm sure he is somewhere smiling down at your hunt.
DJ
So Sorry to hear about T.J. Stay strong. God Bless. HUNT
Man, that really hurts. Praying that God will give you peace.
Here are some more pictures
That thing's got a gnarly rack! Cool bull.
Sorry for the family's and your loss. I've been there and know how much it hurts. It's been 29 years and not a week goes by that I don't think of my buddy - what/where we'd be hunting next; how my life would be different if he were still here; how my life would be different if we'd never met. I'm glad we met and had the few years we did together.
Godspeed
Luke,
I sent you a pm last night,
michael
