Was wondering if there is an overwhelming answer to this.
Thanks Bill V.
2nd knuckle. Not many can master fingertip without at some point in time punching the release. When a person punches the release and is really on his/her game they can be awesome. The problem is that punching almost always becomes erratic which prohibits that person from reaching their potential.
I curl my second knuckle around the trigger, then pull back tension while relaxing my hand/wrist(almost like you want to try to slip out of the wrist strap). The release stays where it's at, and the hand/finger moves back, through the trigger.

I shoot my trigger using back tension sort of how X Man described it. My wrist relaxes slightly while increasing back tension, the strap slips slightly through my wrist but but finger doesn't move and the result is a shortening the distance between the strap and the trigger just slightly which sets it off. I've got mine set up with very little travel so to only takes a little bit of slippage to set it off.
Prior to this year I, like you, didn't believe this was possible until it actually happened.
The trigger is in the crease of my first joint.
See attached link for an old Bowsite feature on this method.

I was never a technical shooter and mostly shot bare bow and fingers. Been shooting the only release I ever owned on the tip of the index finger. We kill WT's here at 20 yds, no need to be very technical. With the sheep tag this year I need to be more accurate at longer distances , so here I am getting to some of the finer points.
Been working on the set up and bought a new release, I liked the comfort of it and had set it long on the tip of the finger. Thought I was getting somewhere with the comfort and feel. I bought a spare since I liked it and had it incase. The other day I took the spare with me to the range with the intension of lengthening it to match the other. I put it on and its set short, I decided to shoot it like that before messing with it (experimenting). What I found was a nice grouping (better then my norm) low left, but grouped nice.
I'm now working with that set up and its coming around with the trigger set on the second segment of the index finger. I am able to use back tension to set it off.
As a guy who never got real technical, I was wondering what most of you guys were doing. I have read a few articles since that seem to say use second knuckle area and it seems most of you guys do too.
Thanks for the help guys. Bill V.
Another positive is it gets you a little bit more DL, at least it did for me.
