Heading out to Bull Basin Outfitters tomorrow for my first archery elk hunt. Not sleeping well the past couple nights. Thanks to everyone here for keeping me entertained for the past couple months.

Now we just have to get em dead.

Are the bulls rutting in Colorado ?

18-Sep-14
Depends on the area. Most of the state has been pretty quiet. Got a report of some activity on the WY border. The bulls on public have been real quiet the last several years. If you wanna hunt the rut it seems like most of the activity actually happens during 1st rifle, not during archery.

Smokepole hunters are out in force. The elk I'm hunting are high - feeding around 12,000 ft and then bedding in the timber around 11,600 ft. When you park the truck at 10,300 it makes for a long day...

Where I'm hunting, I'm dealing with smoke poles and domestic sheep, I can work around the smoke poles but the mountain maggots are totally dicking everything up! Have seen no sign of rut, did have one bull come running in the first week but he never bugled or anything
