Broadhead for muscox
Hogs

Planning to go for a Muskox in march next year and will like to know any recommendation regarding broadheads. I normally use a Muzzy 100 grains heads and had work very good, but I had hear that 2 blade head will work better with these animals, also I heard that 125 grains will work better. i shoot a Hoyt Alphamax at 70 lbs, any advice or recommendation?
Shot both of mine with a 150 grain Magnus I, 4 blade out of a (70# at my draw length) Recurve.
I used a 4 blade slick trick mag and hit the off shoulder. Was down in 30 seconds. Agree 100% with the mechanical comment as that hair is crazy.
Any fixed blade with sharp blades will work well. I wouldn't worry about 100 grain vs 125 unless the 125 makes your arrow to weak (ie not stiff enough).
Otherwise no worries either way IMO.
Good luck Toby :)
two with 100 grain stingers
A good fixed head-2-3-4 blade
I would agree with pat..stay away from expandables. I shot mine with a montec 40yrds pass-thru.. Awesome adventure.. Enjoy every minute.
Bring all of the meat home!!
@XXXXXXXX what Medicinemann said, they are great eating.
Shot mine with a 3 blade 100 gr. G5 Montec CS...48 yards...he went about 50 yards and piled up.
I hear you about the meat, unfortunately you can´t bring meet into Mexico. Thanks for your responds, seems like I don´t need to change broadhead and keep using my Muzzy 100 grains. I am already book for April 5 hunt in 2014 Now just wait and start getting ready with the clothes, boots etc that i will need.
Obviously any quality fixed head will and has worked. And I haven't taken anything with more hair than a late fall elk. But the question (and a theoretical answer) has come up I remember.
Talked once at length with Woody about abnormally thick hair (animals that is...) and broadheads. His testing showed COC two blades out preformed 3 and 4 blade, (which they normally do on most everything anyway WRT pure penetration).
Interesting that he also found non-vented heads on animals like mt goat, winter grizz, musk ox, etc. had an advantage as well. Very often the vented heads would grab a slug of hair and pull it along with them, when that happened it hindered penetration a fair amount.
So on paper the very best on thick hair/wool species would be a non-vented COC two blade head. On paper. Obviously the animals on the ground show the results vary.... =D
Shot mine with a 100 grain rocket steelhead, just the vains were holding the arrow on the opposite side of impact. Would use a fixed blade if I were to do it over again though.
