The field I went with my son to hunt Saturday evening is loaded with this plant. The farmer said that he didn't plant it and that it comes up every year. The deer seem to love it. Is it some kind of wild turnip or something?

drycreek....nice one!

So is Daikon Radish the same plant as horseradish? I'm trying to be certain on this one. There are TONS of it there. Is it normal for deer to like it?

Daikon radish for sure. Not the same as horseradish, it is milder.

20-Oct-14
I know for sure it is not horse radish.

It is a radish for sure. As far as type, they are referred to by a number of names, but I think daikon is the proper name (seed is often called daikon radish, forage radish, groundhog radish, etc.).

I plant it, and the deer hammer them.

Its a Daikon Radish, Horseradish leaves are broader and nut as deeply notched

I sure looks like a daikon to me. That stuff is expensive in stores.

Daikon Radish.

Other than being a root crop, horseradish looks nothing like the plant in the SteveB's picture.

Wow, this is great guys! I was stuck on this one. Thanks! There are many acres of this (40 or more) just going to waste. I wonder if this is easily sold?

From: Fuzzy

it's tasty. as far as selling, does it belong to you?

From: SteveB

Farmer couldn't care less....he doesn't plant it and lets it go to seed every year. I am resourceful and if this is sale-able could get it harvested for him and further secure hunting privileges :)

try local farmer's markets, and Chinese restaurants. if you market to restaurants, check with your local health dept. or ag dept and make sure it's legal to market direct

I'd say you hit the jackpot, you have a food plot to hunt and didn't have to do any of the work! LOL Deer love those things!

Yeah looks like radish, definitely not horse radish, take a bit out of one, you'll know for sure. Bring a few home to put in a salad, or pickle them, those are good.
