What is your favorite game meat?
Pheasant
Elk
Muley
Whitetail
In order of preference. Those are the ones I've had and liked the best. I'm not a big fan of duck or goose, so didn't list them
Bake
Fresh elk loin, rare over charcoal lightly seasoned with a side of fresh asparagus.
In Order Elk Pheasant Bear Moose Whitetail Speed Goat.
1.) Muskox
2.) (Tie) Moose and sheep
So many are so good it's hard for me to rank them or pick a #1: elk, moose, Sitka blacktail deer, Dall's sheep, oryx all fantastic...mountain lion ranks right up there at the top too.
Whatever is on my plate when I'm hungry! Mike
Elk-Tenderloin- Rare/Med Rare grilled.
Elk-Tenderloin-Med Rare grilled. Whitetail fixed the same, Fried squirrel with gravy made from the dripping.
Elk, med rare, and nice glass of chilled red wine.
Sweet and sour crock pot bear (sweet lord is that good)
Moose or wild turkey (tie) any way you want em.
Whitetail
My least favorite of all thus far is caribou. I think I just had some poorly processed and handled meat. It tasted like the smell of stale pee (not kidding), it was horrible the only time I had it, and I'm jaded now :)
Quail, but I don't get them much. Big game, elk.
anything that taste's like chicken.
Game Animal:
Axis Blackbuck Whitetail Hog
Game Bird
Pheasant Turkey quail
An unusual one that you will want to try if you ever get a chance.....Sandhill Crane. I am not kidding about this.
Bowhuntress, I am assuming you are a female? I'll have to take your word for the "bison balls" call. You are grizzled
All African game was exceptional. Caribou was also fantastic, but those were prepared by a chef.
I'm not a big elk or mule deer fan although those two are the most frequent we get.
Mountain Lion and Wild hog are up at the top too.
Oh, if I had to pick, #1 would be Bison.
Dall Sheep...best game meat I have ever eaten bar none.
Tndeer, I'm not grizzled at all, just feeling giddy as usual during bow-season. Come to think of it I probably am grizzled the rest of the year though. Guess I could have suggested Bison Balls Tartare'. No really I've never tried that. My very favorite game happens to be BBQ'd squirrel. Not fox but gray. And yes squirrels are probably the only thing other than prairie dogs and snakes that I shoot with a gun. My favorite venison other than heart is pickled venison. I'll post the recipe one day soon.
In my experience for dark meat it would be tough to beat bison. For white meat quail, no doubt.
Not in order but addax it is unreal. Eland is great. Mt lion is out of this world too
Oryx is the favorite in our house.
Bowhuntress, I missed the "beaver" comment above yours and didn't catch the joke... my bad
That's OK, I've never been called "Grizzled" before but I kind of like it.
Top 5...Black bear, Whitetail, Moose, Goose, Turkey
1. Stone sheep tenderloin dusted with terriaki powder and cooked on a stick over an alder fire. With a side of Mac & cheese that was and always will be the best meal I will ever eat. Been to a bunch of 5 star restaraunts and they are no match.
2. Stone sheep ribs over a similar alder fire-so good I was actually licking my fingers to get every last molecule.
3. Black Bear pot roast from a Michigan fall bear.
4. Kodiak Island Sitka Blacktail liver.
Not a big fan of mountain lion each of the 3 times I tried it. Big fan of everything else but those stand out in my mind.
Pronghorn- If cleaned immediately and cooled down. Hands down the best meat of all big game.
Mt. Goat- the tenderloins were amazing. Rest of meat tough but delicious.
Elk- Always great...
Mt. Lion- Tasted like a sweet pork..
Mule Deer- Always great...
all are some of the best meat I have ever eaten...
Moose
Elk
Grey Squirrel
WT. Deer
Bear with a predominantly vegetarian diet. No fish or rotten beaver.
Stone sheep is outstanding!
Rabbit..cotton tail IMO opinion the best But all meat is good
Sandhill crane, squirrel, deer, and mallards
Mt lion was really good the only time I've had it, maybe the best of all.
Elk backstrap, WT backstrap, Antelope backstrap, dove, mallard, goose, rabbit, squirrel, grouse/quail, Sandhill Crane, pheasant. In that order.
Moose
Elk
Canola fattened early season Alberta Mule Deer
Squirrel
Cottontail
Whitetail
Cotton tail, Sandhill blue grouse pronghorn moose elk bison whitetail mule deer squirrel pine then fox, gator quail pheasant dove wood duck any other puddle duck, dark geese then light geese diving duck chucker in that order
I've heard a lot of folks say moose.
I have never killed a moose, yet, but I have eaten some and it doesn't compare to fresh elk tenderloin properly taken care of in the field and grilled medium with Tastefully Simple's Onion/Onion & Garlic/Garlic. I just ate some and I wish I'd thawed more.
Even though I enjoy all game meat, I reckon you can't go past any birds for taste and tenderness. Best birds I have eaten would be ostrich closely followed by emu.
Soft shell turtle elk whitetail quail rabbit squirrel Lewis
wild quail wild grouse wild rabbit antelope venison backstrap fried
dove, quial, duck, deer, striped bass, flounder,
Moose, then Caribou, all the rest.
Caribou for sure is my favorite. Too bad it is such a long drive to bowhunt some.
eland, kudu, moose, caribou
My Top Four-
1. zebra 2. axis 3. gemsbok 4. wild hog
Elk is better than deer. Squirrel has been the best and worst
Dall Sheep or Elk tenderloins... Both amazing.
Bighorn sheep, elk, grouse, mule deer
moose elk wood duck phesant white tail deer muley caribou loper
Pronghorn treated right the best...wish they were as big as a moose
Bighorn tastes like lamb and it gets extras flavor cause youare eating bighorn.
Elk....Caribou
Mt goat was good..a little tough but great flavor
I will be hunting Oryx in a few weeks and everyone swears hands down it is the best...
Quail cooked right...amazing...
my favs are eland and moose.I still enjoy the deer feral hogs and alligator i get each year. Really want to get a nilgai. I hear they taste great.
Bison and moose tossup, Elk extremely close second , all are top rate. I have heard wild boar is really great but never tasted it. Deer depends a lot on what they are feeding on and age of animal.
God bless, Steve
Muskox. Amazing. Delicious. Marbled like Kobe beef.
moose, muskox, wild sheep
Moose, elk, deer, my bear I always have made into sausage so its hard to tell but seems to make the best sausage ever
Dalls sheep, moose, caribou, Sitka black tail. In that order. I love being an Alaskan.
axis, oryx, elk, pronghorn who has not been eating sage.
Moose hands down. Elk meat doesn't compare to moose tenderloin.
Baluga
It's like across between whipped cream and meat.
Trumpeter Swan, Whooping Crane, then Bald Eagle... in that order.
1) Moose in this order: Calf Moose, "youngish" Cow Moose, on the small side Bull Moose, all other Moose.
2) Fat Canada Goose cooked over poplar coals - called "Sibigon" in Cree.
Dall sheep 1st, musk ox #2, 3 moose, 4 blueberry fed bear.
eastern shore sika deer. to bad you don't get much off of them.
Of the ones I've tried, fresh elk tenderloin on the barbie, moose burger, fried rattlesnake, fried chukar and off topic but fresh fried kokanee is tied for top spot.
either bald eagle or snowy owl
I had some jalapeno/cheddar antelope sticks the other day and thought it was pretty damn good!
Elk tenderloin, dry aged 10 days and bbqued rare. Nothing else even comes close.
Elk is at the top of my list! After that anything that DOSEN 'T taste like chicken!
Bighorn sheep then Pronghorn.
I have never eaten Axis deer but I was fleshing a cape and noticed there was no game smell at all to it.
For deer, there are lots tied for second, but nothing else comes close to Axis.
My wife doesn't "hunt" but she will go shoot an axis if we get low. She says it is like grocery shopping to her.
I've heard Dall and Big Horn sheep are darn good, but I've had Axis and consider it the ultimate. I never thought meat could taste that good really.
If you were to take a survey in my household Oryx would be the clear winner.
Antelope, Whitetail deer, teal, grain fed mallards or widgeon, quail, rabbits and squirrel.
Mountain chicken AKA blue grouse.
Oryx Elk Turkey Pronghorn Audad Muley
Wild Sheep
Muskox
Mt. Lion
My top 3 but all wild meat is great just depends on how they are cared for and prepared.
Bald Eagle
Manatee
Florida Panther
....:)
Bison cooked over smokey cotton wood....Amazing is the best word I can use to describe it.
Cougar can be darned tasty
ZEBRA!!!,Gemsbok, wildebeest,Elk But most anything if prepared and cooked correctly
Elk.
I just saw an article where Steve Rinella listed elk as his #1 favorite, so I'm in good company ;)
That being said...never tried antelope...
Best of Luck, Jeff
Antelope Nilgai Elk Whitetail
Birds: grouse has it hands down, then pheasant
Could give up all others for moose
Cottontail rabbit, snapping turtle, wT, moose,. I've never had the opportunity to try elk. No wild turkey on here? (the animal, not the bourbon.)

2. Bison
3. Rough grouse
4. turle
5. rabbit
6. whitetail
Eland Liv or cape Cape Bushbuck Steen buck Mullie buck in Velvet blue Grouse Gemsbok Elk Cape Buff bison Impala
Depends on lots of factors: age, what it's been eating, whether the critter was assasinated or run, how well and quickly the meat was dressed and cooled, how old the freezer meat is. I've had fabulous raghorn elk tenders (went through about 5 lbs as I recall), REALLY young whitetail feeding on pasture hay, pig feeding on acorns, excellent antelope for its veal texture, fresh rattlesnake (gotta get a fat one though). Dry doe is better than old male - you don't eat antlers. Nothing overcooked, so you have to play the freezer game to make sure any possible parasites are froze out. I am regularly impressed by how good almost everything tastes.
Moose,Elk,whitetail,muledeer,rough grouse,antelope
The elk blackstrap that I just had for dinner, while retelling the story of the hunt to the kids.
Antelope hands down my fav!
Top two moose, buffalo I like most wild meat.
Sitka Blacktail is my favorite as of now.
