Whitetail Deer

Great!!! Looking forward to this one and hope you use a polarised lense to cut the glare off that big yellow thing(-:
Should be a Great week guys !!!
What kind of boots csn we expect on this hunt?
Good luck to you and Jake. I always enjoy this hunt.
Good luck Pat and Jake.
I killed a good Kansas buck on Nov 1 and my buddy rattle a mature buck in the following day and made a good hit at 10 yards.
There is a very cold front coming that way next week so the deer should be up and active.
Big bucks with their brains in their pants for sure.
My best, Paul
No chicken salad do the tuna for best results!!
Thanks much for posting your hunt Pat. I'll be deploying overseas for work in a couple of days so I will be living vicariously and I'll certainly enjoy following along. Best of luck to you all!
Good luck to the boys!!! Per the image above looks like that buck was hit in the void...
Is there an outhouse nearby?
Good luck guys!
Is Jake using his elephant set up for those big Kansas bruisers
Good luck guys. I'm sure you will have a ball.
Well..... if not elephants I guess it's back to whitetails out of a tree.... sigh..... =D
Good luck gentlemen.... or gentlemen until happy hour anyway.... or Edgington shows up, whichever happens first...
I hunted Kansas from Oct 31-Nov 4 and it was slow.Lots of big bucks on camera at night but just a couple sightings during daylight. We will be back up there starting Sunday thru Friday. Weather looks great and it should be a perfect time to be there. Good luck to you guys Pat. I hope you kill another good one.
Hunt safe and best of luck. Looking forward to the daily reports. Always a great thread and photos.
It's 11 PM now. I am leaving in about 15 minutes.....1,350 miles and 22 hours later (when westbound), I'll be in camp!! I have really enjoyed how this hunt has become a tradition for me ....great place to hunt, great outfitters, great guys in camp.....it's just a great time!!!
Pat is partially right...I have started to experience some shoulder issues....but at least I am shooting a bow again.....I bought a Mission Riot. It's draw length can be adjusted from 18" - 30", and the poundage can range from 15# to 70#. My form is probably terrible right now....but at least I am lethal out to 40 yards...which isn't bad considering that I could draw a bow a month ago, but once my wrist release got within a couple inches of my anchor point, I honestly couldn't hold 15# of draw weight.
Poundage is set at 65#...which draws rather easily now, and more than enough "juice" to get the job done with a well placed arrow.....but I can only hold for about 15 seconds before it starts to really nag me.....
I swear that I went through some form of mid life crisis when the elephant bowhunt was cancelled earlier this year-That was going to be my personal "superbowl of bowhunts". The shoulder issue didn't help, either.
Now that this hunt has arrived..it's time to play....and it feels good.
Good luck. It is getting better right now!
Good luck Jake. I wish you the best.
good luck Pat and Jake, I will be following you guys this year, first year in a long time I am not going to KS, and I already miss it.
Bright sunshine and 39 in Dodge City this morning. Good luck.
Stop by if ya get the chance.
Good luck guys! We'll be following along. Oh, and Jake...at least you didn't go out and buy a Harley and a Mustang like somebody else I know :)
Goodluck guys! Me an my posse will be in a tree in Kansas on Saturday! Mike
I have yet to see any big guys on their feet in Ks
Your timing should be great, Pat, especially later in next week.
Several friends shot 170-plus bucks within the past 36 hours.
Equipment list:
snake repellant- check extra water and wipes- check Imodium -check lunches- hmmm, egg salad this time?
Always enjoy following this hunt Good Luck guys!
Are you letting him walk Jake ?
Pat,Jake good luck all Lewis
I don't believe there is a better place to be on god's green earth than hunting whitetails in the midwest during November! I plan to be there next year! Thanks again for sharing your hunt with us!
After the bear hunt, I'm not sure how to take that comment...
we have no choice but to wait
Thought the same thing, Mtoomey.
Still waiting.....I haven't found the first update yet. Come on Pat your slippin. 10,000 guys waiting on you.
Seems the way to kill giant bucks is to dump 5oo lbs of corn on the ground. No wonder I can never seem to seal the deal with a bow lol.
Awesome buck but I can't seem to get over the fact of the piles of corn on the ground, wth has hunting become???? Not very sporting if you ask me, I wish these states would do away with that !
Awesome buck Jake! Congrats! And guys, don't spoil it. Where legal to do so, baiting is just another way to the same end. Jake has proven he can get it done with or without. That's a hell of a trophy in my books!
Great Buck Jake, way to go!
Congrats Jake. Thats a great looking buck.
My congrats to the Big Guy from NY!!! Way to go Jake.
Good job jake. deer of a lifetime for most guys, actually for most guys seeing one like that would be the deer of a lifetime.
Congrats Jake helluva a buck Lewis
Way to go Jake! What a giant! Congrats!
omg Jake, congratulations man, what a great deer! Super excited for you.
have you made a decision on if you are going to get him mounted? lol
drive safe home.
michael
congrats Jake great buck !!!
Congrats Jake! Enjoy the ride!! Good luck Pat!
What a beast of a buck. Congratulations. It's amazing how effective corn can be in different areas. In most parts of nj where corn piles rule - they act as mature buck repellant.
Nice deer. Lots of character. Congratulations and hopeb that picks up the spirits.
Awesome buck Jake. Perfect shot placement too I might add. You have a tough act to follow Pat. Best of luck the rest of your hunt.
Excellent video of the hunt as well very nicely done
Same here. Corn piles equal no big deer. I assume corn is just on the list to choose from for a lot of Midwest deer though. So, it is a natural presentation. But, if they worked like that here, I'd have a few out!
Great deer. Congrats! Good luck Pat!
God Bless
Way to go Jake! Congratulations!
Scott
Congratulations on an awesome buck Jake! Perfect shot placement, and self-filmed to boot! Thanks for sharing the hunt with the rest of us.
Now it's your turn Pat...
-Matt and Cheryl
Congrats Jake! Truly a Kansas giant!
not that it matters, but now that the dust settled any idea on score Jake?
congratulations again!
mihcael
What a buck! Congratulations Jake!!
Awesome buck Jake, congratulations.
Tremendous buck Jake. Glad to see that your shoulder proved to be just fine for this trophy. Well done!!!!
Best regards, Scott Alberda
Awesome buck Jake!! Congrats.
Wow, what a buck. Congrats Jake !! Should be a hell of a week for you Pat.
Congrats Jake. Pretty good for a guy who's shoulders are falling apart and shooting pink vanes...
Congrats Jake! Awesome buck!
Wow what a beauty. Congrats Jake!
Great buck! I wouldn't feel right hunting over food piles but it's legal there and to each their own.
Josh
I sure hope Jake didn't shoot the first one he saw
Congrats Jake, that's a beauty!
Very nice whitetail!!!! Congrats jake
the heighth on the rack is crazy
I would have needed an outhouse when he walked in
congrats medicinemann!!
and for the baithaters, that deer would have been there with or without the corn,in daylight, only during the rut. This was a perfectly timed hunt, IMO
Nice Jake! Congratulations. What a beauty!
Awesome, just awesome!!! Congrats!
Care to explain, it, via private message?
just becasue it was taken over bait does not detract from what that deer was. a monster. it was all planned the way it went down and the plan, and patience paid off for a great bowhunter.
just watched the video great shot !!
jack I have NJ guys kill good mature bucks with the bait in sept its lethal out there !
congrats jake what a buck!
Well, I'm sucking hind teat on the congrats Jake, but I worked today and then hunted til dark. You killed a helluva buck ! Congrats and be safe on the way home.
I've heard that turkeys in Alabama will actually run away from a pile of corn!
Nice job getting it done, Jake! Killer buck!
He would have been somewhere, but I doubt he would have stood there that long.
Congrats on a great buck Jake. Now you have time to thin the coyote population.
Congrats Jake on a great looking deer. Good luck Pat on the rest of your hunt.
Nicely.done Jake!!! Your buck has character+!
Mark
Congrats on a great buck Jake!! What a pig!
Chicken salad all around! Pat's buying!
Epic Deer Jake.
Congratulations!!!!
You really could use and ND filter for those videoed Kansas hunts(-:
Jake, great buck! I'm very happy for you, guess the shoulder feels a little better after that shot huh? Well done! And, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy, very much deserved.
Any activity this am? With the big weather front only a few hours away, I wondered if the animals were more active before the cold and wind arrive.
Nice bird and more corn than He Haw.
Haha...Bowsite is #1, eh, Pat?
Congrats to Jake on a fantastic trophy! Dream buck for sure!
Pat,
Now that everyone has made multiple copies of the photo before the editors could remove it, would you like it sent to Twitter first, or Facebook? Banter for breakfast.....you gotta love it!!!!
Pat just gave all of us the bird. What a country.lol
Pat, what clothing are you wearing? Can you keep us updated on what you go to when it gets cold as well? Thanks!
Hang in there Pat. Nothing like a little cool weather to get the big ones moving. Be icicles on that finger tomorrow !
Yes....but you should also make them guess the wind speed. It is so windy, what looks like fog is actually sand kicking up. I can't begin to imagine how much wind drift you'd have to take into account.....
Very nice buck Jake. Congrats on a beauty.
Good Luck!!! 4 more days am 7 days in heaven are coming!! KS here I come!!
Congratulations Jake! Very impressive buck!
Pat, Looks like Kent's tree belt stand. Not sure of the name, but it was down the rd from KW. I hunted that stand during a windy afternoon hunt three years ago.
My week starts at CRO Nov 14. Given the current forecast with the cold temps and high winds, will the Sitka Fanatic clothing with merino base layer and traverse insulation be adequate? Or will I need to add a down insulation layer under the fanatic? My previous trips there, the weather wasn't as cold and windy as the upcoming forecast. Just want to make sure I'm prepared.
Good luck Pat!
Wow awesome buck Jake! Crazy!
Good luck Pat!
Pat, Looks like you are wearing the pre-market Fanatic Jacket with soft outer and new elevation pattern. Mike
Pat I hate the full moon !
Pat Im shocked u buy all that moon stuff along with warm temps bologna ! You sound like a outfitter!!!! Ive had some of my best kills when full moon and above avg temps !! Explain Jakes great buck days ago !!!
what are the cameras showing !
Lou,
Don't get me wrong, they have photos of some really nice bucks....but I don't know if that many cameras were put out this year. I do know that they never got a photo of the buck that I shot....
Last nights cold front does seem to have increased big buck activity. I am about to top off my car with gas, grab my video camera, and cruise some Kansas country...just to see if I can get video footage of some really nice bucks cruising for does.....
Heck Jake just head up to Dodge City and I'll buy you a beer after work. Jake check your PM's.
Jake your buck could have come a ways looking for love !! Awesome video nice shot !! My point is when a doe is ripe them boys come a running rain snow wind moon etc That's typ rut its feast or famine !! Pat stay some extra days If u tag out Peter Lugers on me !!! best of luck
I love big 8's and his body says old! I shoot! Good luck! C
Jake u see any bobcat or yotes
Jake any rough score on that buck ! I would say he 170s .
OK Nick, I thought he was an 8! If he's a 10 I would definetely pass:)
It's on!!! I saw more activity while driving around this afternoon than we have seen for several days. I can't wait to see what else Pat saw tonight after that first 10 point!!
It's on!!! I saw more activity while driving around this afternoon than we have seen for several days. I can't wait to see what else Pat saw tonight after that first 10 point!!
I shoot....drool.....too.....droolllll......Charlie......
MM /pat... what part of kansas are you in?
We are headed to north central kansas and nebraska border tonight to hunt for a few days.
Pat how was your sit today? :)
I froze my --- off this morning. Central Oklahoma
Good luck in the last two days. Goes to show the anti-baiters this is no slam dunk corn or not. Interesting that folks don't sit all day at this time of year, but it seems like you like to change AM and PM sands so that makes sense.
I still think you will get it done if you see one you want.
Bou,
Sometimes all day sits ARE in order.....but it requires a constant wind that doesn't change direction. The winds have been pretty fickle this year.
No disrespect, but this is not a great advertisement for this outfitter. I can't imagine driving all the way to Kansas and spending all that money just to sit on bait piles. Knowing every hunter in camp prior has been hunting those same sites. Ky is a baiting state and I will run corn prior to season to locate bucks. Seems like a lazy way for an outfitter to operate.. Just my opinion. I hope you kill a big one Pat! No matter, I still enjoy the live hunts
Congrats Jake! A heck of an animal.
Good thing he came in early and you didn't have to hold off a smaller one..... you and hold off aren't even on the same page.... you like shootin' stuff too much... =D
Good luck Pat. He must be in go big or go home mode....
I would have been shooting Pat!! He would have been my best buck. But in your shoes I bet you let him walk.
Wow Pat that 8 pointer to me is a stud.
I am kinda surprised that no one has mentioned or noticed the growth on my bucks brisket. Upon autopsy, we found some unusual findings....first, the hide covering this growth was essentially completely covered with ticks (additional blood flow orsomething different about the blood there, perhaps?). Second, when we cut it open, it was confined to the hide. Third, the hide had built a "sheath" around the injury, and it was almost like cartilage. Fourth, the entire sheath was filled with slightly yellow transparent liquid, like what is found in a blister. Fifth, floating in the liquid, was a growth, a little larger than a quarter and about 1/2" thick. When we cut it open , it looked just like a testicle.
Sorry jake, I've never examined testicles that close:)))
What do one of these hunts typically cost? I'm having a hard time finding much info online about them.
Good luck on your last day, Pat!
Dang that hefty 8 (Buck #3) would have been a great one to take yesterday! I would be drooling if that was coming in on me for sure. It may not be the best scoring buck, but sure looked like a nice mature buck with character.
Honestly I don't think this type of hunt is my cup of tea, but I can still tune in, enjoy the nice animals on film, and wish you luck. Shoot one we haven't seen yet and bigger than the rest!
Jake, that is a neat buck you killed. It wasn't quite what I expected when I first started reading reactions on here, but a very nice buck nonetheless. Did you ever get around to getting us any tape measurements?
PS, you might enjoy being back somewhere that has HVAC and plumbing for a couple days after the chilly weather.
Good luck Pat! Enjoying following along. Hope the one you are looking for comes in this evening.
Ok guys who are new to the interwebs - on a live hunt like this it's about enjoying the hunt and moment.
It's not time to critique the outfitter or the ways they hunt.
It's like the ol'saying goes, "You don't have anything nice to say..."
In all seriousness, glad some of you don't like to hunt places where you can shoot B&C bucks.
Pat: Good luck buddy! I've enjoyed seeing your hunts. Sometimes they are amazing and sometimes they test the soul. Both important as they help us enjoy those sweet moments.
If you don'[t get one tonight go back in December and get one then like you did a number of years ago.
"It's like the ol'saying goes, "You don't have anything nice to say..." "
If at the very least civil discussion of differing opinions cannot be had on a thread made for discussion, then I don't know what else to say. Perhaps there would be no need for chat forums such as Bowsite on the "interwebs".
I for one am not new to the "interwebs", this site, nor am I trying to derail this thread. Good luck Pat, and sorry if it didn't take on the first try.
Btw, I hunt where there is a legitimate (small) opportunity to shoot a B&C buck every time I go. It sure helps if you are a very good hunter or are very lucky. I am neither.
I don't come on here much anymore, or any of the other sites, to many professional critics. I used to be one of those guys that got all jacked off about crossbows, but really who cares, as long as it's legal. Let everyone have and enjoy their own experience, without the pointing of fingers from a lofty perch.
Tater, are you saying you got aroused by a crossbow? Not saying there's anything wrong with that.
Congrats Pat. Will wait for the update
way to go Pat - congrats on whatever it is!
" that won't be necessary " Woohoo ! I hope that means a bloodtrail !
Well said Sage buffalo! Look forward to update Pat!!!
Congrats Pat!! waiting on the update and pics.
C'mon pat , I can't sleep until I see the update.
Congrats Pat...On whatever you shot...:) as long as it is bigger than Jake's...Great Buck Jake.
Must be a buck on the ground. Otherwise he'd have posted the nightly update by now.
Looks like I'll see it tomorrow. Old people gotta sleep.
Pat - put down the beer and pick up the keyboard.
Come on, man!
Congrats, Pat, looking forward to the update!
James and Rick (Two of next weeks hunters) arrived this afternoon. I went for a drive with James around four o'clock. We probably saw about 15-20 does, and six bucks. One buck in particular was exceptional..... probably 21"-22" wide, quite tall antlered, and at least a ten point. I would guess him to be in the 160+" range.....and a big bodied bruiser as well. He was doing quite a bit of chasing.... so the rut is in full swing now.
It has been a great week....I just hate to see it end. Good luck to James, Rick, and Mark!!!
Hollywood's Link
Way to go Pat.
Looks like a deer carcass on the ground behind you in the barn. Rib meat also looks intact.
...maybe have your outfitter check out the following:

Awesome job Pat !! Gotta love the last day tag out
great deer Pat. Nicely done.
Got to love the hunts that go down to the wire with a text book ending.
Great buck! Thanks for taking us along on your hunt. Really enjoyed it!!
Great buck Pat congrats! Once again it was great to follow your hunt. Jake fantastic job on a beautiful buck and first time filming a hunt! Simply awesome, enjoy the rest of your seasons!
That's a great buck, Pat! Congratulations.
The ultimate hunt - challenging conditions, great friends, taking it to the final minutes of the final day, and getting it done.
Congrats and envy.
Jake u didn't get yr monies worth!!! first day tag out Pat got his monies worth last hour of the hunt LOL congras to both !!!
Way to bring it down to the wire! I enjoyed following your hunts. Congrats to both of you.
Outstanding! Congrats to both on great bucks, and Pat for hanging in til the end!
Well done Pat - nice shooting!
That is a good shot. Whereabouts did the broadhead stop? Horse of a buck Pat, and way to keep the fans on the edge of their seats.
Great buck and way to hang tuff in tuff conditions. Tuff physically and mentally.
Matt & Cheryl
Well, no bloodtrail challenge, but a helluva reward for the time you put in in some brutal weather. Congrats to you Pat for your deer, your shot, but most of all, for your perseverance and determination ! You da man !
Great job, both of you. Congrats again!
Jake, that thing on your buck's brisket that looks like a testicle is called a "Chest Nut" :)
What a Deer!
Congrats on another great hunt
Great buck congrats Pat and thanks for sharing Lewis
Pat ..Congrats on a great Buck & Jake's too, thanks for the live Hunt it was a great follow
I don't see any pics must be some full coyote s this morning.
Congrats Pat! Nice 8... Although - I do think the 8 you passed earlier was bigger? I shot the Jersey version of your buck this morning in fresh snow- nearly identical characteristics just not quite as big...

Click on the link to see several pics on the live hunt, TBM.
Oh, on the bright side,..you didn't have to worry about mambas or rattlesnakes this time!
Good stuff. Congrats. Love that shot, too. You dialed him up perfectly.
Great buck Pat...Congrats!!
Pat...did you switch BH's? Doesn't look like a 2 bld on the arrow?
Delete, got a gun in the picture.lol Only one coyote Pat come on. Congrats on all.
LOL!
The ol George Chase Over the Hip shot, heheheh..... deadly. Broadside, frontal.... just shows there are lots of angles into the good stuff....
Took 30 mins to find and you heard him go down???
Something tells me the Evil Edition Blood Trail Challenge is gonna be a dooooozy.....
Congrats, that's a whopper. Amazing how many times the last day last min. stuff works out.
Wow that buck is a tank Pat. Congrats on a great buck.
What a stud of a buck Pat - congrats! Your week was the extremes of a true hunt, right down to the last moments. It's a shame nonhunters and haters can't comprehend.
What equipment did you use, most notably the arrow, broadhead and lighted nock? I thought I saw it somewhere but can't seem to locate it. Thanks.
Congrats guys. Great Live hunt as always. Look forward to next year.
I love hunts where the outfitter lets you kill varmints! I've hunted with guides before that were so stingy, they wouldn't let me shoot prairie dogs or coyotes.
Mark got a shot tonight....possibly at that nice buck that I mentioned last night. I am going to stay overnight, and help him to look for it in the morning.
Mark got a shot tonight....possibly at that nice buck that I mentioned last night. I am going to stay overnight, and help him to look for it in the morning.
Good on ya' Pat. Way to get it done in the 11th hour.
Pretty cool Jake..... you eat, sleep and live this stuff.... you could'a been out of there days ago.... gotta love it.
"ChestNut" that one made me chuckle. Jake's description not so much.
Congrats Pat on a really nice buck.
Jake any truth to the rumor that you're gonna go after the NA 29 all self filmed?
I'd have to check with the Bowsite archivist Jaqamo but I think the current record for Self Filmed animals killed with Chesticles stands at 1.
Great hunt n deer guys-- congrats
Pat, can you go over the gear you used to stay warm? Nice shot and a great deer! Congrats.
Kansas has been pretty cold the last few days. I really like the Kelvin pants and jacket/vest under my Fanatics. My other "got a have" is the wind stopper neck gaiter! Good luck! C
OK that thing is just ridiculous!
Congrats men!!! At the end of the video is a pic of Pat and I see eyes in the background! Probably a coyote stalking Pat haha!!
This will go down as one of the all time annual Bowsite Whitetail Kansas adventures. This is like a great novel with Jake being the great introductory chapter that sets the tone and then Pat providing the ending chapter full of suspense and victory. What a great story and memory for both of you. Thanks for sharing with us and taking us along on the hunt. It will go down as one of y'all's Kansas classics.
what did the two deer end up measuring out at?
thanks
Another wonderful hunt with two great bowhunters. I really enjoyed the videos of these hunts. I hope that I'm around to view next years Kansas white-tail hunt.
Very nice deer! Congrats gentlemen.
I was in the next group of hunters that followed Pat's week. What an awesome hunt this was. KS has some beasts! Attached is a photo of my big mature KS whitetail I killed Nov. 18 at CRO. Saw major rut activity this day around 3:30pm and killed him at 3:50. Perfect shot placement sent my arrow through the heart and lungs, resulting in a quick death. He ran maybe 60yds before piling up. Great week and the Kent's are great people! I'm already counting the days until next yr!
"I'm already counting the days until next year!"
Rick,
Truer words were never spoken!!
It was great to meet you, James, and Mark. Let's hope that James has some action this evening!! Congrats on your Chinaberries buck!!
I found a few more pictures that I thought were pretty cool as I was sorting through some photos of Kansas.....this was real recent roadkill, as the bird was warm (despite being cold outside), and limp.....no rigor....and I found this odd as it was 1:30 in the afternoon. I thought that they were primarily nocturnal hunters?
Some pretty serious weapons.....
I found this about 1/2 mile past the owl on 160/183 as I was heading east to go home.....Figured it would make Pat's day!!
Congrats on 2 slammer bucks! Kansas continues to produce!
Superb fellas! Thanks for sharing!
Pat what scent control are you and Jake using and how far are you being dropped off from your stand Lewis
Actually, I filled my tag so quickly this season, scent control wasn't an issue. I always have two sets of hunting clothes...and while one set is being washed in "unscented" laundry soap, I am wearing the other set. I was wearing my second pair of clothes (for the first time this hunt) when I filled my tag.
I shower every morning, and sometimes I will even shower before going out in the afternoon. I always feel comfortable when deer come in from downwind and don't scent me....I know that the wind won't be a factor on those particular hunts (unless Pat snuck some chicken salad in my backpack)
One last photo that I failed to mention earlier. After Pat tagged his buck, he had to leave immediately the next day....so I asked him if I could take his venison home with me, since I had driven. (I probably eat more red meat than is healthy for me, but at least it is all grass/corn fed meat.) He was kind enough to say "yes", and after writing the required permission slip, and getting the tag that goes with the meat, I went out to butcher his buck.
Pat killed his buck with a single arrow, which he recovered after his quartering away shot hit the animal on its left side...behind the last rib, and quartered forward into the vitals. Look what I found on the right side of the buck, further back than Pat's shot, but not quartering forward at a steep enough angle to reach the vitals......
The three blade Montec had passed through the near side backstrap, gone through a vertebral disk, and lodged itself in the far (left) side tenderloin. Yup, they are one tough animal.....the entire broadhead and the first inch of the arrow shaft had been completely encased in a type of cartilage like "sheath".
We found out later that an archer from two years ago had hit that buck....I believe it was originally shot at the Barby stand....also where Pat had shot it.
Very cool Jake. I killed an old monarch in PA many years ago that had a 100 grain Thunderhead with about the same length of aluminum shaft lodged in the same area you describe.
Thanks guys glad you did'nt find that arrow by hitting the business end with your hand Lewis
Cant be true, fixed blade heads always kill deer, only mechanicals do that because of all them moving parts...sorry couldnt resist :)
