Wrold's Worst Shot
Caribou

I'm voting for Agnes Hailstone in the television show "Below Zero". I almost hurt myself laughing every time I see her shoot that rifle.
My vote would've gone to Tred Barta, but due to his misfortune I'll give him a break.
My laptop has developed the TBM multi-post virus. Sorry about that
Just because CO has lots of new Libs you don't get to vote 3 times Lou!
And yes, Tred has taken some god awful shots on film.
True but remember the good one he took that one time too
Glad my name has not yet come up....
Shooting at running caribou 300 yards away in 30mph winds with and iron sighted Mosin-Nagant would be a challenge even for Annie Oakly. Don't see any sportsman taking those kind of shots but Agnes is not really a sportsman hunter but substance hunter. If I were starving for caribou meat I would probably be fling lead as she did.
"Wrold's" worst speller? Coming from you, bowriter?
I will never cast stones in this department as karma is a bitch.
There was an episode where she was shooting her nagant and her daughter was shooting a mini 14 into a herd and I just kept thinking that they had to have hit more than the two they got out of that herd.
Honestly? It's sickening to see, and I flinch every time she picks up that old rifle.
Never once seen her make a clean kill shot, but instead she just blasts away hoping one of the herd falls down. Lord only knows how many wounded, suffering critters she's left out there over the years.
They try to make it out as a "way of life" as if in harmony with nature...hogwash. There is no honor in that kind of killing for either the hunter or the animal. They can call it "hunting" if they want, but that there is just plain killin'.
Rest of the cast are good people, and I especially enjoy the hunting guide as he traps, etc.
Bowriter, I agree!
I don't know if it's the same woman or not (this woman was not native), but anyhow, it was on that show a couple of weeks ago that I watched in near disbelief as some incompetent woman, gun barrel wavering all over the place, let a few shots go in the general direction of where some caribou happened to be.
It's not just the shooting - some of the "so called bush people" on those reality shows sometimes don't seem to be playing with a full deck.
As in all walks of life, it seems that the less some people know about a certain subject, the more that they think they know.
I guess all we can do is shake our head and laugh (although it's not funny!).
I live among northern bush folk (my wife is native) and they (for the most part, lol) have more sense than some of the things I see done on those shows... but then it's t.v.
I like how the husband always says she does the shooting because she's the better shot! I think the fact that she's native is the reason she does the shooting. I also wonder if she's even using soft point ammo or just 100 year old surplus FMJ?
But that's not as good as the episode of North Woods Law where a warden from Maine is explaining to a bowhunter that he shouldn't be shooting at 10yds because that's to close and the arrow hasn't built up enough speed yet??? He said that the arrow takes about 20yds to get to it's maximum speed, I guess he never took a physics class - or has any common sense!
True Zinger. That was really sad.
Zinger, Agnes does all the shooting because her husband got into a scrap with Alaska State Troopers and is not allowed to carry a weapon. He posts a lot of interesting info about their way of life on The High Road forum, under the name Caribou. Check it out if interested;http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=717379
Razor, interesting. I thought it was just because her being a native is allowed to do a lot more than a white man can, In one episode she shot a seal which I'm sure would have landed the husband in jail had he shot it.
Damn Zinger I thought I was the only one who called BS about that 10 yard shot....guess I need to buy those rocket boosters that fire off at the 20 yard distance so I can pick up speed
Chip has posted a lot on THR about their way of life long before the show ever aired. The LBZ show doesn't give an accurate representation of her shooting as the scenes are usually pieced together. I'm sure Agnes and her family are better hunters than most as they live that lifestyle year round and have killed hundreds of caribou.
They should know the difference between loins and tenderloins (they don't seem to).
Zinger, speaking of North Woods Law, does anyone remember seeing the episode where the Game Warden came upon the remains of a sow and a second year cub and he was identifying them as two cubs... a big cub, and a small cub. He didn't have a clue as to the true size of an average northern sow (especially in the spring).

These guys seem to be fairly proficient?
Im sure there are better options here... but my shot at a doe last week qualifies. only about 10yds and I missed by literally 5yds. Sort of funny angle is my excuse. Has to be in the worst shot's ever category :)
Thankfully another one walked in about 10' later and was not so lucky... :)
"...a warden from Maine is explaining to a bowhunter that he shouldn't be shooting at 10yds because that's to close and the arrow hasn't built up enough speed yet??? He said that the arrow takes about 20yds to get to it's maximum speed..."
PLEASE tell me no one's that stupid!
Go ahead and laugh at Agnes' shooting (why the hell doesn't her husband buy her a decent rifle?), I bet she could whip every a$$ on this site!
I doubt she could whip every XXXon this site but who cares? And with the best rifle made, unless she learns to put her head down and gets her cheek on the stock, she isn't going to hit anything. The last shot I saw her take-not the swan with a rifle-but at caribou, her shot hit the water about 50-yards short of the animals.
I have no doubt, concerning many of the skills required to live there, she can put me to shame. I also have no doubt, shooting is not one of them. I assume her husband lets her shoot because she is a native and he must hunt under other regulations. But the truth is, she is a terrible shot and a terrific fish and game skinner.
What I find deplorable is them trying to pass her off as a better shot than her husband to explain why she is the one shooting. I am sure some creative editing accounts for the game she "kills".
Got so sick of it tonight I went to the Facebook page for the show and left a nastygram.
Tonight's lesson for her daughters was "Just let the wounded animal wander around suffering [in front of you] till it falls down, then try and shoot it again...and if you miss, keep blasting in its direction until you hit the thing".
Despicable.
I was under the impression that only "native Alaskans" can substance hunt. They aren't required to have a license? Maybe one of the Alaskan guys on here would know about this?
She is native. That is why her husband lets her shoot.
