I shot a buck at last light the other day and his stomach was so full of acorns I could not believe it!

I guess they are gorging on them close to their bedding

I just got back from a hunt in KY, acorns galour and the buck I shot had a stomach full of them. The three food plots with green brassicas were hardly touched. A big acorn crop makes hunting very difficult, hunt the funnels in those oak trees and hope a big boy makes a mistake.

Interesting. Last year we had no acorns crop and deer sightings were still down. People said they roam in no particular pattern. Acorns should givd them a pattern. However with this many trees dropping there is no set pattern. They can eat under any tree they want. And when u have 700 acres of all oaks i guess thats the deal.

NC had so many acorns that if Ebola hadn't been the #1 news story the acorns would have taken front and center.

I love big acorn crop years. It is rough at the beginning but now the acorns are thinning out and the deer are moving around picking them up which means lots of sightings now on our place...

We consider acorns the easy way to kill deer. They prefer certain ones...and certain trees. It gets really tough when acorns are gone.

Southeast va had a bumper crop this year. I hope things start picking up now that have quit falling and the deer should have to start moving to fiind them. If not, i got a problem on this property= no deer!

We are a fickle lot. In a poor apple year we blame the lack of apples. In a poor acorn crop we blame the lack of acorns now we blame too many acorns. I saw no deer in bow season . The good news is the deer are around and We have a late bow season. The deer should be healthy next year as well. More benefits than problems in my opinion.

I saw two this morning, but they didn't say what they were eating. Seriously, I lost so many oaks in the 2011 drought that there are not too many acorns on my places.

Sounds like you need the Cruncher by Knight and Hale. Nothing like imitating the sound of a deer eating those acorns to bring the rest of the herd running!

Most acorns this year I've ever seen. Red oaks, water oaks, chestnut oaks, white oaks.......all have a bumper crop.
No deer activity in food plots. Deer sightings are way down.

For the guy who knows where the tree that drop first and the tree that drops last is will not be affected much

Acorns here in northeastern Illinois have been crazy. Deer sightings are down cause the deer don't have to move anywhere to eat. You rarely even see them out in the corn fields.

I have several red oaks that are still holding some. The deer are all over them. Passed up two 130-135" bucks last week coming through to scent check for does. Had 8 different bucks in there Last Friday on them, plus a bunch of does coming in to forage on them. One of the best sits ever without releasing an arrow.

I just may not have the amount of deer this year. Still tons of white oaks on the ground

Yep. Acorns and the heat. 122 hours on stand in 3 states so far this year. The opportunities have been extremely few and far between and then only on young buck and does. Everywhere I hunt is well managed and has several good bucks. They only have been showing up in plots in the last week or so with a little rut action.

You realize,reds/ black oaks only produce every second year.

While it is true it takes two years to produce acorns on red oaks they can produce a crop each year. They usually produce a small crop every other year.
