eBay, buy one for cheap. I got a brand new one for 1/2 off retail price.

I used to rent from Mobal, but bought a Delorme Inreach and it works great.

How often do you need to use one to make it worth buying one? I guess the question would be does it cost the same to buy as it does to rent?
What part of AK do you live in Nick?

Buying the phone isn't the expensive part...
It gets expensive when you have a trip in July and a trip in November when you need your phone and you are forced to either buy two sets of minutes or buy a 1/2 or full year of minutes. The price is crazy and you barely use any of the minutes you paid so much for
I found a friend who has one with minutes and pay him to borrow it. Much much much cheaper.
Used to pay Mobal and was happy with what I received

Secondary note... If I were to buy one now it would be the Irdium GO. I have to take my cell phone with all my contacts with me anyway... So why not use as the sat phone

For a rental, I've used Global Satellite and been very happy. I ended up buying an Iridium Extreme from them.

Rented from explorer satellite a number of times before winning a phone at the sheep show. Always had great service from them. Good luck
