I am looking for advice on what mounts / poses look good. We live in a log cabin, so the whole place is an appropriate setting for stuffed turkey.

Both my wife and grandson got drawn for turkey. If either are lucky enough to get one I am looking for suggestions on getting one or both mounted.

Also the care and feeding of the recently deceased turkey prior to taking it to town for the stuffing.

Thanks

Terry

Here's a couple of different ones I've done. They take up a lot of wall space

Something to consider is being able to clean the mount. Flyers are easier as they have less area that holds dust. Strut birds are going to hold dust and be harder to clean and easy to damage with the shingled feathers on the back. Good luck with your decision.

I would personally like to have one perched on a limb gobbling as they would on the roost. However having my man card in the possession of another precludes me from this possibility.

Being the realist especially with my taxidermy I wanted a flyer that looked real and like he just coming down off the roost.... It takes a lot of room but looks great!

I went with full strut for my first bird and have no regrets but will be getting a 1/2 strut for my next. They look the best in my opinion...when done correctly of course.

Another one... This is my wife's first turkey.. It's a bird just coming out of full strut with head up and fan laid back just as she shot it. Gotta keep my daughter from picking the flowers off of it :-/ lol

gulfcoast, you did a terrific job on that turkey..........looks like the judges thought so too.

I am glad a have 'slick' bird too. Every time I look at him I think of the hunt......called him across a river after working him for over an hour........couldn't believe he stuck with me that long. If I did not stay real aggressive, he would drift away, but would come back when I called long and loud.

I don't think I will ever have another flying mount, that's just not how I hope to see them in the woods.

I have all my mounts on the wall or hanging from the ceiling. Pedestals would not work with my 18 grandkids......10 of them being rowdy boys.

Gulfcoast that's a beautiful bird! Well done man. People don't realize how difficult it is to get a bird to look like that. Those feathers don't just fall into place and each one has to be placed correctly. Truly a work of art man.

Thank you. I do about 30 gobblers a year, mostly strutters, but this was the first slick down standing bird ive ever attempted. All the plants and flowers were hand made and the 30 prickly pear cacti pads were cast/molded specifically for this piece. Heres another of t he underside.

Btw, thats a nice smooth bird for a decoy, non typ!

Great detail, Gulf.

We have a grand slam mounted. 1 gobbling from a limb, 1 gobbling and walking, 2 strutters.

IF I ever had another one, it would be hanging from a tree limb by his spurs.

Love those limbhangers more than beard length of body weight!
