Jay Fuller - Cougar Outfitters, AB
What does anyone on the site know about this outfitter from southwestern Alberta.
Bou, I never met him in person, but I spoke with him on the phone when I was looking for cougar outfitters. He was very nice on the phone & had a great reputation among my guide & the other houndsmen in the area. You might give Mark Buhrer at BSC a call & get a list of references.
Good luck! Scott
I hunted with him when he was guiding with John Cassidy. Good guy. Tough as nails and focused. Runs a good operation and think a bowsiter Iron Mike killed a toad with him last year.
I have already booked with him through Mark at BSC. Just curious as to any addiitonal insights folks may have. Hunt is Jan 2016
I will be hunting with him this winter. Booked for a week just after Christmas. I booked through Mark as well. I'll let you know how it goes.
Great luck wishes your way. I look forward to a report after your hunt. Go get em'
AB in January....
Some folks have to spend a few days at altitude to acclimate to an area..... I'd have to start in southern CA and take a week or three slowly traveling north for the temps....
Good luck Jim.... might wanna do a Medicinemann and find a walk in freezer someplace for practice.... =D
TD- Oklahoma ain't quite Hawaii, I should be ok. But come to think of it ain't quite Alberta either...
Jay guided my wife and I on an elk hunt a few years ago. He is a heck of a guide and hunter and has a great reputation for big cats. The cat hunt is still on my list - let us know how it goes.
Looking forward to the stories, guys....g'luck!
I forget, I always picture OK as kind of warmer.... but then if recall it took you a week or so to get home a couple years ago.... snowed out....
Ok, yur half way there.... take lots of pics and keep us in the loop.
I have met him, he guided me on an elk hunt. He took over 1/2 of the famous John Cassidy operation. John is known as one the the great cat guides and Jay worked for him for years. He is very focused, very fit and knows what he is doing, you made a great selection with a great guy. He knows cats, bring your camera.
I also hunted with Jay and John. Took a B&C cat with him. Great outfit, great guy, great dogs.
Jay is a well know and tough outfitter. He knows cats, has a great area and has good dogs.
I will be looking forward to helping with this hunt. Can't wait to get out and stretch the legs with Bou. Looking forward to Jan 2016.
Just got back from hunting with Jay. He has a ton of experience, some great dogs, great guys working for him, and very good genetics in his cats. He is a no BS stand up guy. Good luck and feel free to pm me if you would like any more info.
Thought I would post a quick update on my hunt with Jay Fuller. I just got home, killed a nice male cougar on the 4th day. We had good snow conditions, but not a ton of tracks. Treed a femal the first day that I passed, and this guy on the 4th day. Got lucky and found a really fresh track, he didn't run too far, so actually and a pretty easy hike in to the tree.
Jay has great guides, and good dogs. John still hunts with Jay, but mostly from the truck, more than most 77 year olds would be doing in country like that! John is also a super cool guy. Would certainly reccomend Jay to anyone looking for a cougar.
Mine measure (obviously not officially) about 14 3/4" just a little shy of B&C, but way above P&Y minimums. Weight guestimated at 150-160lbs
Post the pic you sent me. It gives a better idea of the size of your cat.
And grats again! Great cat
But I'm naked in that pic, that would be very embarassing on the interweb...
I honestly I think that is the same pic...
Here is one with my guide Shaun. Shaun is 7'2" and weighs 450lbs, so that give you an idea of the size of the cats they have to offer ;)
Nice work Ol Buddy, and I mean Ol!
Congrats on a great cat Jim!
Yeah it is, but you posted it like 2 seconds before I posted.
And don't tell people about the naked pics you send me. That's supposed to be our little secret.
Awesome cat! Love these Alberta Cougar threads. Congrats!
JTreeman, That pic definitely doesn't do that cat justice. Thanks for putting it into perspective by adding the guides height and weight. LOL!!!!
Congrats on a gorgeous cat!
Congratulations on a great cat Jim! I hunted with Jay in December as I mentioned earlier in the thread. He does have big cats in his area. Jay should certainly be on the top of the list if you are looking for a big cat. His guides Shaun, Eric, and the old boss John Cassidy are all great and fun to be with and will work hard for you even when conditions are tough. Hope to bump into you at P&Y to compare notes. Let me know if you plan on attending.
Does this outfitter have a website?
Mike, yeah look for me at P&Y we are planning to be there for sure.
No, jay doesn't have a website to my knowledge. He is old school. He wouldn't even read this thread when I brought it up! Lol
I booked through BSC, or give me a call and I can help you out. He has very limited number of NR tags, and fills up quick.
Who's that behind you holding you both up???? =D
Great job Jim! (try saying that 5 times real fast....) He's a dandy! Congrats!
But I'm gonna need more info here... yur 900 number just ain't doing it... Easy shot? You said the walk wasn't too bad....
Beautiful cat! Congrats!John and Jay are as tough as they come, and John only has one good eye!
Nice tom! Congrats. I keep saying I'm gonna do it again someday.
Nice going Jim ! i hope u have a game room in yr new home !!
For a little more perspective on the size of the cats they have, here's Shaun - all 7'2" and 450 pounds of him - holding my cat from last December. Jay and Shaun are as no-nonsense and tough as they get.
Check that....the prior picture is Shaun with someone else's cat from last year. Apologies to the owner of that one. I will post the correct one next.
OK. This is 7'2" Shaun holding my cat last year. If my kids were home they'd help me delete the earlier post.
Mike, thanks for showing us what a BIG cat looks like, I'm feeling a little inferior now ;)
good luck on your upcoming hunt. i love seeing the pics of these huge cats from AB. a dream hunt of mine to do one day if i am lucky.
Good luck on your upcoming hunt. Leave a big one for me... I'll be hunting with Jay next year!
I'm looking forward to seeing pictures and hearing about your hunt.
Yessir....the BEST of luck! A dream hunt of mine for sure!
Go get 'em Grant!!!
You'll do good as always!
When do you leave and how long is your hunt?
Yes, good luck and take lots of pictures!
Mark, I hunt the 4th - 13th. We'll see what happens these things can be a bit of a crap shoot.
Good luck Grant! Keep us posted.
Good luck, Bou! You taking your son?
Maybe you could take us through a re cap of your previous cat hunts (complete with pics)?!
Good luck Bou, If you can please post a pic with story when you get back. A cat hunt is on my bucket list.
Bou....I have a feeling it will be more of a "shoot" than "crap" :)
Kevin I arrive later today
Good luck Bou, your son set the bar pretty high for you!
Good luck Grant! Look forward to pics and story.
Mike the story of your monster cat was discussed for after dinner tonite. Quite a story. Who mounted that one for you?
Good luck Bou. I am flying in on Tuesday the 5th to hunt with Noah. Looks like it gonna be really cold. Good to leave the flood waters here in S.E. Missouri.
Bou it was mounted by Ashley Barrett in Mechanicsburg PA.
Good luck on your hunt Grant.
nothing fresh enough to chase on day 1. some wolf tracks conditions not good for cat yet.
fresh tom tracks not around, but seeing wolf a bit. need some fresh snow in a couple days to get cougars moving. just need one. we'll find it when the conditions are right.
Stay on 'em Grant and keep us posted!
Nothing, nothing, nothing, then bam! Good luck! You are right that it only takes one. Good luck!
Anyone heard from Grant?!
TTT. How's it going Grant?
Any closure to this adventure?
this silence is deafening
I saw a photo today from BSC.
Story? Heard rumors of a game violation.
No posts from Bou in a coons age or is it booooo's age?
Bou where ya at?
That's a pretty damning statement towards a respected member on here cattrack.
Redneck hunter how did your hunt go with NOAH
re: game violations
Almost 2 months. Is Grant still there?
Shocked at how quiet everyone is about this......strange
Hope all is well with Grant, it has been a little quiet around here without his witty personality.
He posted on the 20 years of Bowsite thread. Hunt
Send him a PM if you care that much....
I'd say, he had an incredible hunt, shot a great cat and wrote a story about it, sold it cause he's a pretty good writer and can't give any details till it's on shelves for a while. One thing my mother taught me is think good and take the high road.
Yep, always think the best. But for his friends on here he could at least say...."had a great hunt guys....can't wait for you to read my story when it comes out". Or.... "going through some personal issues, will be back on here soon".TTYL
One of the most vocal voices on Bowsite suddenly totally mute? Nah.
I probably wouldn't care, but the comment about "rumors of a game violation" intrigued me.
He's probably trying to sell the story so he can afford more outfitted hunts. Since he is on the site and not replied and left everyone hanging he has opened himself to speculation.
Not for a few hundred bucks.....
But he already told part of it. Nothing fresh on 1/3 and still nothing as of 1/5. I'm sure he can sell a story even if he simply wrote on this topic that he got a lion and is writing a story.
Well he can rest assured that he has intrigued fans on the other side of Atlantic too ;-)
have any of you noticed that Bou'Bound recently posted in the black bear forum yesterday?
Ok something is going on with him. He just posted on my post about TNT. I simply ask him how his hunt went with Jay and now my comment has been removed.
He has commented on about every thread but his own. He must be hoping it will just go away.
Well at this point its obvious that even though grant killed a cat he didn't have a good hunt.Lets leave it at that.
Willow - if that's the case, I'm sure others would like to hear the story before booking a hunt with Jay.
Let it go guys. If he doesn't want to post the story then so be it. Move on with your life and quit worrying about other people lives. It's his hunt.
I did not kill a cat with Noah. Hunted 15 days. Saw many small tracks and treed 5 cats and could have treed many more. Will start a thread on my trip and share my thoughts on the hunt at a later time. Still licking my wounds. Now up to seven trips with 5 outfitters covering 39 days and no big tom to show for it. As far as Bou, I tried to keep up with his hunt through Noah while in Alberta. At first, Noah said they did not kill a a cat. When I talked to Noah last week, he just said they (Jay) did not have a great season. (No real big cats) When I mentioned that there was mention of a legal issue, Noah said no mention was made of one to him. He did say there is a lot of private land in Jay's area but couldn't imagine Jay doing anything illegal. Bou, if you killed and had a good hunt, then congrats. If things went south, I hope it all works out.
Its nobody's business what happened. If Bou wanted to say anything he would have already talked.
Let this thread die!
Would be nice to know something about his experience before someone else dumps 10k on a hunt and has a bad experience. I don't care to know all the details But I do want to know if people need to stay clear off this outfitter!
I thought everyone said these are about guaranteed as it gets for big cats with Noah's, Jay's, and Byron's outfits?? Bou Bound has told everyone on here for years that save your money and go to Alberta with these 3 outfitters. He also said you are wasting your time in the lower 48. I feel many Canadian hunts are way over-priced such as $5000 black bear, $12,000 mountain lions, and $7-8000 for 30 inch moose plus the taxes and trophy fees. It is time to boycott their high prices and bring their costs in hunts in-line. Although it is just as bad down here in the US.
Given the big names and prices, there is quite the following on how these hunts turn out. Hopefully we will get answer.
I hunted with Jay and crew from 12-16 December, 2016. I killed a very nice cat which green scored at 15.25". He was hard to judge because he was skinny and his track wasn't exceptionally big, but he had a big head. I told the guys before I left that I had a great time... and, the hunting wasn't bad either. That was not an exaggeration.
Although I was curious, I didn't ask about Bou's hunt and they didn't mention it. I'm sure Jay would have told me about it if I had asked him, but I was already there so it didn't matter to me.
Jay and the crew were top notch. Just like everyone, they all have their own distinct personalities. I happened to get along with them well. Some may not. Their dogs were amazing. Those dogs made it possible for me to kill an exceptional cat despite my best efforts to mess it up. I will hunt with Jay again, if at all possible.
Maybe the OP is still hunting?
BDA congrats on your cat! I know bou is around because he likes posting on CT live hunts....maybe he can do a hunt follow up here?
Not looking good, T-Mac. It appears he has been sworn to silence.
Most bizarre thread ever.
Rumor has it he received a fine and the cat was confiscated by wildlife officials.
Those are serious allegations that you people are coming up with. Hope you have proof to back it up.
Silence is golden when convicted of a crime. Kinda surprises he wouldn't man up with as much as he has blasted other illegal activities on here
Jay Fuller is still listed as a member in good standing with Alberta Outfitters Society, so he must not have been involed in any misconduct?
Many APOS (Alberta Professional Outfitters Society) members in "good standing" have multiple wildlife act convictions. One of Alberta's most habitual and noteworthy Poacher was the Past president of APOS, Lloyd McMahon. Google him, his record of illegal activities is astounding.
It would be validating for both APOS and their many members in good standing with a clean record if the Society would publish a list of Wildlife Act/Trespassing convictions etc. along with the outfitter's other info.
But that is not going to happen.... buyer beware, be very aware.... A client could and likely should do a legal search, contact Alberta Solicitor General and the Courts to dig out the history of an outfitter/guide....
Wow! Assumed to much, good to know.
poor form... he would be on here every day hounding anyone else.
No doubt about that Snuffer.
I wasn't gonna comment but Snuffer hit it right on the head. Interesting to say the least.
That's also why I called him out. Go back and look at numerous threads where he ridiculed people who broke the rules or didn't do it 100 percent by the book.
"Rumor has it he received a fine and the cat was confiscated by wildlife officials."
If that was the case, would it not be a matter of public record? If so, it should be pretty easy to actually post facts rather than spread rumors.
No, records of convictions are not always readily accessible in the Alberta legal system. They very often have to be dug out with effort and a bit of money.
My mistake. There was a poster above who seemed to have direct knowledge of numerous convictions of APOS members, so it seems like record of a conviction is something that is discoverable.
Regardless, perpetuating rumors in the absence of proof doesn't seem like the thing to do.
He is posting today on other topics or at least someone with similar handle. Hmmmm
Can anyone get to the bottom of this?
There is one person who could get to the bottom of this .
What a bunch of cackling hens.
" Leaving us hanging is worse than a ct live hunt" haha, good one bou!
BUMP. Grant - are you alive?
another Bowsiter gone missing 'Forest Bow' went over the Mexico border with Ward's outfitting and has not posted in awhile! not looking good
I got a text from Forest Bows today....and I am really certain that you'll be hearing about his hunt within a week....he's still in Mexico right now, with virtually no internet access....I don't know how he was able to get the one text to me.
Good to hear.
Thought this border talk and Trump was amping up the shenanigans on the borders.
Let's not let this get away in case someone has something to add.
I bet you dont see him commenting on any poaching threads anymore.
There's at least one guy on here that has his own dark demons.Look into the outfitter but good grief if a post was coming it would be here.I wouldn't post at the orders of others either!
Always the same instigators they smell blood and can't help a stab in someone's back.He always ends his attacks with god bless and yet,Yeah big yeah He or she or it has zero,no less than zero cause it's more than one incident to criticize or pester anyone!yeah Karma for sure!Boy I can't wait till the day comes its exposed!!And it will come!!
TSI, are you referring to the outfitter?
I'm confused. Nobody said "god bless" in this thread?
Cattrack - Are you aware of a poaching violation? If so, please elaborate.
it wasn't poaching but trespassing. Bou and his guide shot his cat out of his zone so it has been confiscated. I guess bou is just hoping this all gets swept under the rug and probably why he won't respond on here.
walking buffalo's Link
Well this isn't better than a live CT hunt?
In Alberta, hunting while trespassing is considered a violation of the wildlife act, offenders are considered to be hunting illegally, thus it is poaching.
However, if the client was not aware that he was trespassing while being accompanied by the guide, mens rea could apply.
Not the first time nor the last time Fuller has faced these same charges. Yes, it has happened before and after this particular incident. Once may be dismissed as a mistake....
Granted, he guides in a difficult area to run hounds in terms of private and leased land, but this is no excuse for allowing the hunter to make an illegal kill, and this has happened with other species as well.
Ah hell... I took this video several years ago. This is Jay guiding an elk hunter. He did Not have permission to be on this land ( the landowner told the person I witnessed this with) , chasing wildlife with a truck(S). Off video, the hunter and Jay got out and sat down, the hunter pointed his rifle at the elk with the bullet path crossing the Trans Canada Highway at 4 in the afternoon.
The hunter wisely did not fire.
An hour or two after this video, the hunter had a heart attack and died in the field.
The irony of it.The alledged incident would fall primarily on the guide!but it's ironic that some who push the canibalistic whitch hunt hmmm seem to have forgotten their own pending possible forfeitures or worse.Gotta love the passage of time and the juristictional differences in limitations and classifications.Anyone concerned?
guess that settles that...
The cover up is always worse then the crime. We all make mistakes we're only human. He owes no one an explanation but as a bow hunting community a simple explanation would have been nice but not to be I guess. This could happen to and has on here before, but that individual confronted it head on and for that I commend and respect him.
T Mac x1000 Exactly! We all make mistakes, but most hunters, and bow hunters in particular, have always tried to cultivate an honorable reputation and most of us will always man up! In my view, the apparent offender would have been well-served to just own up to their mistake, add an explanation and call it a day - thus gaining, at least, a measure of respect.
Given the very opinionated, and at times, somewhat offensive history the person in question has, in this online community, the thing to do is just man up.
Man up!tough stance, what about the outfitter?I don't recall seeing anyone else maning up here actually seen denial, deflection and counter offence to hide!Goods points but no background in practice!llook first at the lead controller!
Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
To all I apologize for hijacking this thread but this garbage has to stop! Now back to our regularly scheduled episode.
Guess you have to actually know bou for him to be "respected", cuz from what i see of him around here, he's not much more than condescending to most and a suckup to a few. Certainly doesnt hesitate to jab at everybody but the big guns around here. We have a ton of really cool and good posters here that are very skilled that deserve respect and by bou their asses are kissed. In my mind a lot of the ppl here that hunt their asses off deserve respect too instead of sneaky condescensing remarks. I dont like it when ppl that dont deserve it get bashed on, whether they realize its happening or not and the biggest offender of that on this site has the boomarang comin back to him. Just how i see it.
tmac we don't have any business partners period and have never had an employee ever charged or loose a guides license, you clearly are confused. As for reputation in our community gosh we've been a long standing employer in many businesses and big suppprter of charities, amateur sport and educational scholprships.Guess that bad in your opinion?
Well said stick n string. Bou hammers all but the bowsite elite. Anyone else goes quiet and he is on thier case daily. Pretty pathetic really.
Tmac rather than spew false fake defamatory statements.Provide your silly source and proof!canada revenue agency, corporate Affairs and fish and wildlife would surely love to know what you claim! You have zero credibility telling made up lies clearly to financial harm and discredit reputable business. If you have facts prove it.Id love to know when I mysteriously received a partner and how you would have any first hand knowledge of my reputation in business over the last 30yrs in my community or our philanthropy.proof I'm all eyes!no more buzfeed fake false defamitory comments please and Thankyou!
Tmac if you can prove any of your defamatory comments I will ask bowsite for a refund of my sponsorship and leave bowsite peacefully for ever!!!!But if you have lied and clearly you have with clear intent to defame and cause financial harm to a business in factual good standing then you should either be banned or voluntarily leave for good!Seems very fair wouldn't you agree? This is only the latest attempt by you to cause harm, defame, disrupt and instigate time for you to either go or provide factual evidence of your allegations and a reputable source so others can see!Bye Bye
Back to our regularly scheduled program!
Bye bye tmac!!!!Are ya not able to prove your allegations??Either leave for good or admit you lied and made up your claims or which you can't prove them!Dont hide!
Crickets,Tmac crickets!Pretty serious stuff your aledging,Defamation clearly cmon you made up the claims,I'm not hiding!Post the proof bud like I said here's your chance,You continually make up things and post them,Show everyone your proof and u get what you have tried over and over to do,Ruin someone's reputation and business!!Fess up admit u lied and fabricated your claims or produce proof! How many people have you told your lies too?How many times have you defamed our business?Like I said the laws watching!
Any one have any of that good cheese lately ??
There is some serious allegation of these threads but people still think this is a joke
This whole Thread has become an attack on people who in most cases don't know the person they are speaking of.Bou is a long standing contributor on bowsite sometimes in duals and sometimes able to entertain and provide great experience and knowledge.Bou and I spent plenty of back and forth spats in years past but after we met I got a huge and genuine surprise,a letter of well wishes and an apology for what is simply an internet misjudgment of another's caracter and true personality. Its impossible to judge or know a person through script and I learned that.Bou didn't have to apologize, but he was a stand up guy and did.I respect that and I'm thankful that we became friends.I received a Christmas card wishing myself well and the family this yr from Bou and I know it's kind of mushy but it was nice.I guided Bou,s son last yr and man he's a great kid I really enjoyed our talks and he's a real sportsman and an American patriot enlisted in the military and has been deployed over seas.i don't know anything about the above allegation but I can say the persistence and suggestive comments were crossing the line.An outfitter or guide is the only financial Benifactor in an offense and it seem they were getting a pass and the hunter was getting all the attention.I know irregardless of posts and online banter that the man I met isn't the man being portraited here. And Tmac your still responsible for your defamation!
I have found myself addicted to a thread online, of which I have no connection, don't know any of the people involved, no dog in the fight, but can't seem to tear myself away. The daily drama is sooo much more interesting than Jerry Springer! Kind of like watching a slow motion train wreck. Ya know? When you are pretty sure what's going to happen but want to watch just to make sure the final result is the same as your prognosis.... Any Advice? Addicted, slightly jealous that I haven't been able to go on a trophy AB lion hunt, always envious of those that have more opportunity than me, REALLY wanting a big lion, in Iowa.
Who is Abby?lol Guess Tmac is still trying to figure out how to get outta the very serious lies he posted here, silence definitely won't work, honesty would, but it is what it is he lied, fabricated allegations committed slander and defimation now ......silence,pretty sleezy Tmac.
Don't run off this morning Tmac thinking I've forgotten. You throw out serious allegations to take food off my little girls plate.Neither me or God can forgive a liar today!
There you go making false allegations about God, Dave. He forgives everyone, everyday. All you have to do is ask.
That should make it all better till tomorrow! Can he make Tmac tell the truth?Useing ones faith to lie and hurt others with the notion that one will be absolved of wrong doing by days end is letting the wolf hide among the sheep,What's left when the sheep are all eaten?
Stick n string, you nailed it.
Online banter rarely translates to face to face banter!
TSI, the way your reacting and posting on this forum is damaging your image and reputation much more than any comment made by T Mac.
I don't agree,he made up lies for the purpose of hurting my livelyhood.they are lies and lies hurt so it's my right to demand the truth! If I don't respond you would criticize my silence and pass judgment.
We now return to our regularly scheduled thread....oh and can you pass the cheese please!
Tmac your not good by any definition. You sir are a liar!
I for one would like to know if T Mac can prove what he has claimed. Seems to me it is a pretty serious claim.
Me too Nick.It is very very serious maybe criminal? He fabricated it all!
Knowingly putting false & defamatory information out there into the world is what libel laws are there to protect against.
Personally, if this were my site I would not be comfortable (as the publisher) having these sorts of accusations up there for the world to see.
I'm thinking that TSI should be taking this up with TMAC via legal counsel at this point. And the mods should have taken this thread down a long time ago, because this is gone far, far, far beyond simple "banter" between acquaintances.
Pull the plug!
I agree with you GF........... like I said in my previous post this is some serious allegation ......... this could jeopardize someone Business..... I would've never let this going this far I would've contacted my lawyer by now
We are not aquatinted!Never met him, done business with him etc.Pulling it won't stop the defimatory actions he portraits.Banning him will!I pay good money to be a sponsor and gladly would leave should his lies have been true!Attempting to destroy a Sponsor with fabrications and lies should and is the ultimate abuse of the forums.Only one option and that's to suspend his use of the forums.I guarantee I would be banned emediately if I posted fabricated information.
TSI - I agree with you, but it ain't my show!
That said, if I were you I would let this one fall off the bottom of the page and be done with it. That, and I would be contacting Pat directly.
But really, bud… You gotta let this one go!
Tsi....Look I've ran a business for 20 yrs..You have more than enough evidence to file a defimation of character lawsuit against the other fella that has supposedly said.. According to you lies..He will lose.100%..Been there..... Hopefully bou will enlighten us all.im sure he's embarrassed, humbled,,, whatever...He only knows...But hopefully the sharp tongue is lil duller....Been there .. Whatever has occurred...All good man..No one is perfect............
I have just sent a message to address the allegations by TMac to Pat I leave it in his discretion.
Finally an answer. So does Bou get refunded for his hunt from Jay Fuller? You can shoot tom for like $3K, but from what I have heard Jay Fuller's hunts are much more $. So since this was Jay's fault, does he have to legally refund Bou?
Heres my take on it. If something did go wrong why would he post a comment on here to further incriminate himself especially if charges were pending.
Damn the luck----
I clicked on this thinking there would be a Full Body Mount finished and shared....
This is crazy!
Good luck, Robb
