Post what you are seeing. Just hit the stand and saw this Lil guy on my cam.
only thing I got was a spike :(
Spikes are good. Post it up. Buck is a buck
Not too often you see one bed in front of the camera...
Don't understand what you guys consider late season, heck our statewide muzzleloader season hasn't occurred yet until the first week of January.... Wisdom of our DNR allows them to settle down after our statewide firearms season last week and finally trickle out of their crevices during daylight hours just in time for BOOM, the smokepolers to blast them back nocturnal...
Was looking at last week's kill stats down over 50% of what they were just a mere 11 years ago... Fact - stats have been in a steady yearly decline since the 2002-2003 season to this point... 133,391 in 2002-2003 to 67,906 in 2014... The statewide herd has been decimated... Yeah, they killed less than half the deer numbers just a decade ago... The good ole days are over...
So I consider "late" season the survivor's season the second week of January through February 1st...8^)
I guess late season would be area specific. I guess I should have made the title late year buck pics. :)
Left decoy up overnight. Opps
Just noticed it on a few of the pics I have from the past several days. Check out the left front leg joint.
Here's a couple I took the other day.
Taken a week after rifle season. Hope he survives winter.
Mpauls - AWESOME photos!! : )
Lots of good trail camera photos too.

Another post rifle buck. This deer is my nemesis. Missed a gimme shot at him last year. Have pics of him back to 2011
Took this guys photo this morning on the road to our house, he was about 15' from me in the truck.
Late season Florida style
I hope this one makes it till next fall. All I have left is a doe tag.
All ready dropping - before December?
Long story short, this absolute monster lurks in the neighborhood I live in.(Ohio) I've gotten very few pics of him. A young hunter ended up shoulder shooting him on Nov. 20th and he tracked it right through my landlords property and up in the wood lot where I hunt. I followed the blood trail and the hunters foot prints(2 sets) a long distance. The buck had already traveled a long way to get to our land. He happened to walk right passed the one cam I had in this particular wood lot. I couldn't wait to check the cam! Never found buck or ran into the hunters. I checked the card and got these pics. Look close you can see the arrow in the off shoulder. I think he will survive as long as he can get the arrow out and infection doesn't set in....That night the hunters were back looking. I left a note on his truck to call me, I had pics of the wounded deer and that I didn't think they would find him. If he makes it and the wound doesn't effect his antler growth next year, I think he could break 200"!!! I'd easily guess him in the 180" range already!

I have such admiration and respect for this buck, now on my 5th year of history. "Tripod" walks on 3, nearly every pic he is holding his right rear leg off the ground. I had him dead to rights last year - he was working so hard to rut on 3 legs, I didn't have the heart to take him out. I was committed to take him this year, and tried for him last Monday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons, but he was only showing around midnight. Of course - Saturday was my last day of shotgun season, (gave me another buck tag to use for the bow since I am tagged out), but I could not hunt Saturday. Sure as sht he shows a full hour before shooting light ended! If he sticks around and avoids the poachers, Maybe come January when I get a winter bow buck tag, I will give him another shot... Otherwise - hope he makes it through another winter... Amazing with all the yotes, he survives. I had seen him chased by neighbor's dog last year, and that dog is way faster than a coyote, and that deer still managed to run as if he was not handicapped. What an amazing will to survive with such a handicap...
Would you have a hard time shooting him, knowing he is at least 5.5 years old this year????
That's a hell of a buck Matt. I don't see the arrow? Hope he makes it!
Buyse - classic "loin" shot (or "void" if some prefer). you can see the red spot at edge of Matt's pic, he has another pic showing the arrow in that spot...
Yes you can see the blood, it looks like a small berry or something high in the shoulder. This pic I'm attaching you can see the arrow in the off shoulder as the buck is facing the other way. It is definitely not a twig...plus I know a hunter shot him as I followed the blood trail and spoke to the hunter a few days later. I showed him these pics and he changed his opinion regarding his chances of finding him or not...he thought he had made a much better hit.
a few days before he was shot and Jack Harris actually arrived this day! Guess we had him in the wrong stand!!! haha
SmoothieJonez - Curious, is that a Connecticut buck that shed early?
Thanx
Matt, that is one hell of a deer. He should survive and as long as it is just a flesh wound (not hitting or breaking any bones, which it likely didn't) it shouldn't effect his rack next year. What an absolute stud. Do you still have a tag left? Good news for you is after he was hurt he came to your property, so you know he atleast feels safe there.
Jack, I would shoot "Tripod" in a heart beat! As you know all too well, here in NJ 99% of all mature bucks are 8 pts so for me, it is deer like him who are nontypical who get me going. Being that he is 5.5 is icing on the cake as well. If you want to get out and hunt before the new year you could always go and buy a permit shotgun tag if your zone is open.

I've been after this guy all season, but no such luck yet.
shootist_4 - all I can say is HOLY #### what a buck! Good luck gettin' him
I see it now Jack. Thanks. I wasn't questioning the story, just frustrated at my eye site going to hell. Ha! Good luck chasing him next year boys! Send pics!
Had the same thing happen to me checked the camera and there is a buck with a arrow in him really bad shot now about 2 weeks later I get him again arrow is gone. if you look at the deer you can see on his side were the hair is puffed out I don't want to post the arrow in him but he is doing fine I tried for him last night but he was a no show, season here runs till end of Jan
I'm tagged out so I'll have to wait till next year...I know there are a few bucks in that same caliber in the area. So no excuses for me to shoot another 130" deer next fall! haha
That's right Matt - save those "easy" 130s for me, you take the 180 !
Matt- If you need additional help "thinning the herd" of those small 130's, I will personally drive Jack out to hunt with you next year!!!
Hoping this looser shows up during the day before the end of the season!
Geez I was thinking this was a trophy picture thread for late season buck KILLS!
Here is my late season buck that I got this year in North Idaho.
Passed him up 4 times this year. Hope he makes it!
It can be a late season kill thread as well. Everything pic related is fair game. wildlife related that is!
Jack you even said yourself, if you hunted the woods I do, you'd shoot a 150" every year! Restraint is the key!
Still have a chance at him came in at 4:45 a couple of nights ago .
From a couple years back.
Jumped 4 does on my way in tonight. Buck stayed back in thicket. Got within 40 but no shot. Darn. He was a decent 9 point
Running a doe in my beanfield.
All pics (of mine) taken since completion of Ohio shotgun season.
Great bucks Kevin! And good news for next year.. Hopefully they make it during the muzzleloader season!
Kevin,
Nice. Thanks for sharing. One of those bucks eyes looking like they are bugging out. lol
I was in my office this evening (home office out on the farm) and noticed a deer on the front lawn about 90 yards away.
I shot some video and grabbed a couple screen shots to show. 12 pointer.
