Getting my bows set up for a moose hunt in September snd I cannot decide between my tommy Hogg and Hogg father. The tommy is quite a bit lighter but I like that I can take the dove tail off and put it in my carry on for my flights. I guess I could just un screw the tommy but I don't know if I like having to do that. What do you guys think

A dovetail mount is superior for a couple of reasons. Foremost is that you can adjust it to fine tune the alignment of the apparent size of the pin guard within the peep; moving it in and out as necessary. And as you mention, it is more convenient to remove and replace.

If your going in on horseback, a dovetail is a huge benefit.

Why is a dovetail helpful on horseback?

"Why is a dovetail helpful on horseback?"
Every time I've been on a horseback hunt, I carry my bow on a sling across my back. I was constantly reaching behind me, checking my sight, adjusting the position of the bow so it's not hitting on the back of the saddle or anything else. With a dovetail it's in my pack.
