Hello everyone hope all is well, spring is on the way its been a nice winter in Manitoba not a lot of snow about 18 inches in the bush norm is 3 to 4 feet I love it. There is a full house of hunters for spring and only a few licenses left for 2016 if anyone was thinking of coming this way for a bearhunt in 2016 best grab one before may would love to have you, we will give you an experience you wont forget. We will be doing a day by day update again this year on the spring hunt hope you enjoy. We will start baiting mid April only 50 more sleeps cant wait. Now I have to figure out my new computer to put pics on here. have a great day.
Looking forward to you thread this spring Alexis - always one of the best!
Hey Chuck drop in if your out this way in the spring if you can , this was the other day 30 miles south of home I was hauling hay unreal the weather this winter look like somewhere south of here Kansas or somewhere heck maybe I was in Kansas.
Try this again don't know why pic sideways.
you can fix this in the tools area on the pic..
Thanks Danny first time putting pics on with iPhone.
Alexis, how about I come a little earlier and bring some of our snow along with me? 8~)
Best wishes for another terrific season!
We can't wait to see you in May! Spring can't get here soon enough.
Alexis I think Kansas does have more snow than you right now. Out my door with several more inches yet to come over the weekend.
Chuck we will pass on the snow lol, Yes Adam can't wait either it will be here before we know it. Louis are you bear hunting this spring hope you have a good one if you do.
Brian not that often you get snow do you isn't it close for your grass to start growing.
March 4, 2013..... We get snow and usually it is coming in sideways with the wind. We have had a pretty mild winter so far with I would say slightly warmer temps than average. But we tend to get some bad early spring blizzards from the SW. We moved from one town to another 3 weeks ago and it was 80 outside. At this time it is 15 with wind chill of -1 out with light snow. The wheat is acting like it is going to come out of dormancy early with the warm temps. Now we get this weather rolling in. Typical Kansas weather
She realy blew in there ey springs on the way, started a young team this winter they have been hooked together 4 times should of used a well broke horse to get them started but I don't have one. Any body else hooking up this winter show me your horses I can talk bear hunting and horses all day.
Hey Alexis, good thing your not trying to work your horses here in Massachusetts. Close to 9 feet of snow since the 3rd week of January and 2nd coldest February on record. It was minus 5 degrees here this morning. Hope it warms up pretty soon.
That's not nice ey Joe , where do you put it all wow Glad we had a nice winter this year but our last two were brutal also it was hard on our elk and deer this winter will help the population. Take care bud we will see you in a few months.
-15 actual last night here in northeast Ohio. 8 more inches coming tomorrow.
I always enjoy Alexis' pics and posts...eh you say 50 more sleeps!...u-r really counting down the days!!
You bet Ron just though I would throw that in lol. I will put a few pics on from last maybe someone didn't see.
The Riding Mountains is one of the best places in the world for color phase bear I would say 30 percent color phase.
These ones seem too give the boys the slip there not big for nothing.
That's the new bear skinning shed we put up last fall amongst other things.
Just gotta love that color variety!!
A 300 class brown 2 years back.
This giant still at large would like to weigh him maybe this spring.
This could be you in a year or two waiting for that nice color or old slew foot.
Love the pictures Alexis! Keep them coming and looking forward to following along on this spring's hunts!
She's a little chilly this morning-23 Celsius in Manitoba we have a little snow cover this just east of the house , there talking pluses for next week. I am ready for spring the winter was good until the last month has been cold.
Glad to see you started already Lexi ...keep the posts and pictures coming..Greg
Hey Guys send some warmer weather this way would you, If we don't get much more snow the bear will be out in the farmland early April along the hills a few weeks later.
Alex that giant on the 5/4/12 pic is a great one to add to the bear judging thread.
If that bear wasn't next to a barrel I'm sure lots of people could/would consider it just a decent bear.
I always hear guys say its belly hangs low so its a giant.... length and height add lots more than belly fat.
Now if you could just find me one that size in blonde please...
Hey Shug the blondes that size are hard to find but if your out in the woods there's always a chance. Three or four years back I had an experienced hunter hit a big blonde he figured he was at least 350 lbs we did not find, well they ground shrink a lot so we did not find out how big it realy was. the next year he came back he called me from the stand he figured he hit one over 400 lbs so we went and found him we weighed it at 408lbs so that blonde we lost the year before probably 350 lbs like he said. his son the same week hit a bear he figured was 500lbs so we went and found him and he was 480lbs them guys were pretty darn close on judging Bears those were fall bears
-12 F here this morning.....you want me to send that..Greg
yes - 22 here this morning long range all pluses for the next 5days have a good day Greg.
Heres another giant from a few years back still have a few tags left for 2016 love to have you.We will have an outcamp next year for the guys that don't want to stay at motel. Its 0 degres this morning in Manitoba beautiful day, well were of to church everyone have a good Godly day.
Its going to be an interesting spring here in Manitoba if the weather keeps up not much snow around, the bears will be out early the dandelions, grass, flowers fiddler ferns, it might be interesting for the bear guides trying to bait bears, I welcome the early springs in April makes a nice long warm season. We should be ok along the mountains with the high bear numbers. Heres one the guys will be looking for this spring he was at the baits early last year, well off to haul hay today, you all have a great day.
There's bear city up in them hill , she's starting to get greasy in the fields.
Can't wait to get there in May! Some nice looking bears Alexis!
the weather is unreal here Bruce plus 10 today we will have no snow in a week if this keeps up I love it. The bear will be messing around the den today for sure. We will talk soon can't wait for bear season.
We will be at it soon baiting bears pretty well no snow left after our last small storm looking like earlier spring for a change. Heres another the boys would like to get on a scale.
This was last fall when we were up in the hills on horse back.
Thanks Lexi.....I needed that!
Greg it is snowing like crazy here this morning, we are off on a trip for a few days. Driving will be a little interesting today. have a great day.
Awesome! Always look forward to your threads!
Mark
thanks Mark, just going to get the last of bear feed this week in the city then we're going to get at it they will be looking soon.
Me and the wife took a little ride on the ski slide road we had some fun takeing pics.
We had a little surprise just before we got out of the mountain its taking forever downloading pics tonight.
The bear are out we went for a walk and this big bear track went across the road I wanted to follow it to see if his den was close the wife wanted no part of it . She say my camera aint going to help me much if the bear comes after me.
Yes we were coming out of the mountain and I spot a bear 400 yards along the road to far for a picture so we drive closer the bear disappears, I get out and start walking down the road to get a pic I get to where I think she went in. There is an approach just 20 yards further so I keep going I get within 10 yards of the approach I see two ears sticking up on the other side I am waiting for the bear to stick his whole head up to get a pick she put her head down instead. Then all of a sudden there is small cubs start crying they were with her 10 yards from me and I am 75 yards from the truck not the situation I wanted to be in incase she gets pissed at me. I went back to the truck and drove up but she got in the culvert with her cubs and I didn't dare go pock my head in the culvert for a pic. That was exciteing I wonder how small them cubs were, her is a pic of some in may that are small I can emagine these were tinny.
That was a good evening for us we got to see a black bear and heard some cubs crying they didn't quit crying there may of been a little water in the culvert that's what they didn't like. Going to go and feed them at the end of the week put the cameras up and see what that brings us. This is what left of the old ski hill it closed in 2000 I think.
Good morning all got the last of the bear bait yesterday in the city the secret in these barrels. baiting starts Friday. you all have a great day.
Good luck this season. These spring bear threads are some of the best of the year, thanks for taking the time.
Hey Alexis, I don't see my name on any of those barrels. Little over a month to go!
thanks sureshot glad you enjoy the pics and story, Bob your name is not on the barrel but we will try to put it on a bear we will see you soon.

You guys that are going bear hunting this spring are you getting anxious, some of my guys are already pumped not long now May 5th the first group starts.
HI Alexis LOOK GOOD I SPOKE WITH TOM WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE TAG 2016.4 GUYS THANK YOU
As always, really looking forward to your thread this year Alexis and have enjoyed the picts you've already posted!
Randy PM sent, Chuck you coming this way this spring? Thanks guys.
Unfortunately not Alexis. It will be the first time in many years I haven't been in Manitoba or Alberta in the spring but we've got a lot going on here at home. Selling our house, building a new one, retiring after 37 years of working for our local electric utility and starting a new business. We'll see what the fall brings or if not then, next spring. I will for sure miss Manitoba in the spring!
wish you the best on your move and new business Ckuck we will keep in touch.
Always enjoy Alexis' annual thread...and always was hoping to hunt Manitoba someday.
I know I am ready for the second week of May when I will be there!
Hi Alex, been enjoying your thread for a few years now, looking forward this again. All the best to you and your clients this year. I'm getting the itch myself, baits are out.
Alex,
What is your website address?
Tks.
Buffalo -
http://www.desjardinsoutfitting.com
Darryl wish you the best on your bear hunt anything moving yet? Ron glad we got together last fall we had a good visit. Bruce are you ready I know Rodny is talk to him a few times about the gun paper work at the boarder he passed the test 30 question he said that's good. thanks Chuck for giving Buffalo my web,
Alex
I am ready! Yeah Rodney has had fun with the paperwork stuff, thanks for giving us the heads up, would have been terrible to get to the border and find out he needed more paperwork
bburen, I am getting ready to venture into Canada next month on a Bear hunt. I have been going for the past 10 years to New Brunswick. During this time I have taken 1. Passport 2. Additional Picture ID 3. Canadian Firearms Declaration for my gun 4. US Property Declaration to show I possessed items prior to crossing the Border when I return. Tell me please....IS THERE ANYTHING NEW REQUIRED AND AM I MISSING SOME REQUIRED PAPERWORK?? Thank you in advance for your time.
If you had the PAL (Possession Acquisition License) and register your firearm w/ the Canadian Gov't your border crossings into Canada would be a walk in the park breeze. Plus it's valid for five years...and many times cheaper than paying the $50 Declaration fee each time you enter Canada. I'm thinking it is possibly valid for only 60 days or so.
Thank You...ridgerunnerron....That may be a viable option once I retire...So far I have been lucky, but planning each year's trip is continegent on my work allowing me time off. I was just wondering if there is some other documentation that has cropped up as a new Requirement to cross into Canada. Thanks agin for your time.
St8thman yes there's a new one coming out its on the U.S. side, just go to your boarder crossing and phone them about it it's not in yet but will be , just keep in touch with them.
st8tman, the guy I'm going with just went through the whole process. He is going to put together the websites and stuff he did and I will post it on here for all. That will probably be tomorrow
Here is what Rod did. This is a reference for what he did after talking with 5 different US Govt agencies. To the best of his knowledge this should get you across, but you know how govt works
1. Obtain an EIN (employee identification number) from the IRS website, I believe there is a link for this on AESdirect.com 2. Create a user account (based on your EIN) on AESdirect.com for your USSPI profile to be the admin on the account 3. Create another user account on AESdirect to complete and pass 30 question test on trade regulations….. 4. You can download a User guide and Sample shipment on AESdirect to help you on your test 5. When you pass your test you have to create another account on AESdirect to allow you to fill out the EEI (Electronic Export Information) shipping paper work. 6. Create an EEI on AESdirect, once the EEI is properly filled out you can submit the EEI. 7. Have all your questions answered before you start filing, I am not sure it saves the EEI you are working on and you may have to start over 8. You will then receive an email with your ITN (Internal Transaction Number) which is the new requirement 9. The ITN needs to be declared to the CBP (Customs and Border Protection) along with your firearms and ammunition at the US port of departure from the United States.
In my opinion this was a very frustrating and time consuming process….. I contacted my Senators and Congressmen stating my concerns and frustrations as a sportsmen. I suggest everyone that has to go through this to do the same. I will include some contact numbers that you will probably have to leverage while going through this process. US Census Bureau – this department is by far the most professional and helpful 800-549-0595 – option 3 for regulations (you will use this one the most) when filing your EEI Option 2 for filling out your schedule B Commodity codes on your EEI
AES Direct – almost no help at all but probably your only source if you need help setting up your AES account………… 1-877-715-4433
Web site - www.ice.gov/cpi/faq
There are some groups/lawyers willing to help you accomplish all of this, for a fee of course…
Thanks Bruce for getting that info for the guys,
THANK YOU.....I have a "hook" with US Customs, that I plan to consult with as well. Seems like a lot of Bullshizz just to go hunting, or return to your home country from taking a hunting trip. Once again Thank You for the time you took to post info.
had a couple beaver traps by a bait to check so while doing that I went to see if anything moving they hit this bait hard the last few days, I forgot to bring a spare card for the camera so I left the one in it next time I go we will see what's hitting it.
Love your picts Alexis... makes me long for springtime in Manitoba. I love spring in Michigan but nothing like spring in Manitoba.
hey Chuck the coyotes are hunting for there pups right now , some birds are nesting love the change of the seasons, the fall colors and the smells in the forest is none like other. I am sure you will be up here again. Thanks

I'll bet that bear in the stand is the one that chewed up my camera arm. He might have gotten the last laugh this year but I'll get even next year!!
he's a trouble maker he tries to whoff you of his bait when baiting he's a little scaredy cat though.
5 Bears on the bait at the same time!! Two color phase. Had a blast and got lots of good video this year.
Didn't shoot the biggest bear around but it was definitely one of the prettiest bears I've ever shot. Beautiful blonde with reddish legs. This one was a fighter. 1/2 of one ear is missing.
Cool looking bear! Kind of looks like a grizzly.
great looking bear jmail20. It was great sharing camp with you!
Bruce
See previous photo from Alexis dated 19 May 2015....this is my bear after I harvested it. Shot him at 10 yards from the Jackson stand at 8:50pm. This is the first time I have sat over this bait as I have previously harvested my last two bears over Lower Miker's. This guy weighed in at 345 pounds. Alexis and Allan definitely run a top-notch outfitting camp.
Thanks Bruce, it was a pleasure hunting with you guys as well. Everyone got great bears. Bob, congratulations on an awesome bear. I shot my very first one from that stand 15 years ago.
that's a nice bear yeager! I shot mine this year at Jackson and so did my buddy. His Monday, mine Tuesday. Saw trail cam photos of that big guy!
me and my little women are off baiting today beautifull day,Randy the boars are just starting to follow the sows should be a good week they are sure eating a lot of food. Have a great day all. the new group is on there way here.
Thanks Bruce, shot him on Monday also. There were 5 other smaller bears hanging around at that time, but didn't dare get too close. Everybody in camp were seeing a lot of animals.
Here is a few from l.ast night this one is a dandy
Heres a nice brown 300 class from last night it may be another big bear week.
Alexis asked me to put this one up. A 420 pounder shot last week by one of his hunters.
Thanks Joe, we will be looking for another one like that this week.
Thanks Joe. Shot my first bear at Floyd's back in 2002. The next two, a 445 pounder in the fall of 2004 which scored 20 13/16, and a 260 which scored 18 3/8 back in 2006, were shot on Miker's with the big ravine behind the bait. Always liked that stand, but for some reason, decided to try Jackson's....glad Alexis talked me into it!!
Just like every year, amazing picts and bears.
there are 7 hunters out in the stand tonight just waiting for some action, the baits were cleaned out again this morning they should see a few. beautiful day in Manitoba 27 Celsius hope they get some with good hides and good steak.
herd A shot a while ago good chance it's one of mine we will see in a bit this was us going in last week to retrieve a bear. that's our grandson Keyden on the back bike he loves to be on the hunt.
My son Blaine took some good footage of my first archery bear kill. He did good for a 15 year old. If anyone wants to see it, I can try to figure out how to post the video. I'm not too good at that stuff. That's why he handles the camera!
Here is another shot of the 420# I shot at the North Laurier stand. My first bear and I did it like I wanted to with my recurve. Thank you Alexis for running a top notch operation. I saw plenty of bears and had a marvelous time.

another dead bear in Manitoba not big but a pretty blonde, two guys left for the week it's raining here this morning hope the sun shines later. this is a bear from the other day.
we have had an amazing spring here in Manitoba we had big numbers for bear sightings in the past but this spring was the best, we were trying to identify how many different Bears on our stand last night it was more than 15 bear no Cubs at all what a show, another hunter at least a dozen he figured amazing. I used the sow in heat spay last night off my stand it works every male wanted to come up my stand don't try this at home lol, put it on a rag away from your stand would work great I think.
Heres a few trail cam pics
Some of that going on now.
We will try her again tonight for a good one you all have a good Godly day.
Definitely wouldn't put that sow-in-heat spray on my stand. You my have a close encounter like the previous trail cam picture! I would put it out near the bait and then have Alexis or Allan take the rest with them as they leave. Great pics.
this is Elliot's bear from last night 195 lbs with a big white patch beautiful coat.

It's coming along Alexis. All framed & roofed. If you build on the new property, you'll have quite a bit nicer view from your living room then we do. I'd trade ya any day. 8~)
Congrats again on a terrific year.
it all takes time Chuck to build a house Chuck glad yours is on its way maybe you'll be in it by fall. Ours is going to be a few years project get the Fram up before winter. thanks guys it was an awesome spring on the bear hunt.
Here is some incredible footage of a great bow shot by bowsite member MQQSE while hunting with Alexis Desjardins last month.
we got one report back on official bear skull measurement, Troy Hurzts from North Dakota from this springs bear 20/11/16 the bear weighed 305 lbs thin but old. we don't measure green skulls here they can be far out from dry measure you can have a green score of 20 inches and end up 18 something dry. congrates Troy and Allan was the Guide still waiting for some more boys to send me there official measurements. Have a great day all.
Just got 2 more official scores, Bill Gurdely from Wisconson with his 420lb bear scored 19/9/16, Bob Taitside from Wisconson his weighed 345lbs scored 19 3/16 both very nice bears.
Those are some awesome boars Alexis!

Thanks Steve, unfortunately I don't hear from most of the guys over the years what the official score on there bears were.
