In the day, I used to apply for about 40 species in several states. I'm down to about 10 species in my home state of ND, Utah, AZ and Montana. I used to "cringe" at the amount of non-refundable fees I was paying. Enough annually to go on an outfitted hunt! Now, I think I'm about $500 a year in non-fundables in the above states.

You can do about 30 apps for about a grand non-refundable if you do the right ones and include your home state. I'm well under two grand for just under 40 apps.

I'm with you Ike. I do around 30 apps a year with total cost around $800. Some years I'll throw my name into Idaho and Oregon for sheep or goat and that pushes me over 1K.
